“Not true”: Alito mouths words as Obama hammers Supreme Court

posted at 10:44 pm on January 27, 2010 by Allahpundit

He’s on the far left of your screen, seated to the right of Sotomayor. Politico’s calling it his Joe Wilson moment.

When you hear the president of the United States demagoging the First Amendment, you sit there and you take it, son.

Update: CBS screwed up the embed code initially. If you’re seeing the bit about Afghanistan, try refreshing. You should see the Supreme Court clip then. If not, click here. That should do it.

Can you even imagine the nerve of BHO?

Sorry, that was a stupid question wasn’t it?

Oink on January 27, 2010 at 10:45 PM

The guy is nothing but lies. He knows nothing else.

bbz123 on January 27, 2010 at 10:45 PM

Wow! That’s even better than McCain saying “He’s blaming Bush again”

IrishEi on January 27, 2010 at 10:45 PM

Saw that. One of several truly galling moments. The nerve of this man-child, berating the Supreme Court in front of a national audience, for doing their Constitutional duty.

Animator Girl on January 27, 2010 at 10:46 PM

Now, to be fair, he may not have been lying, he may truly not understand it. He was a Con Law prof, after all.

exlibris on January 27, 2010 at 10:46 PM

you sit there and you take it, son.

Don’t you mean boy?

conservative pilgrim on January 27, 2010 at 10:46 PM

Uhhh…wrong video, Allah.

MadisonConservative on January 27, 2010 at 10:46 PM

thank you judge Alito for speaking truth to power

bessex on January 27, 2010 at 10:46 PM

How dare he question the SC. That was really tacky. Perhaps he’s jealous of them.

Yellowdog12 on January 27, 2010 at 10:46 PM

Grossly insulting behavior by Obama, utterly inappropriate applause by the Democrats. And he was lying.

novaculus on January 27, 2010 at 10:46 PM

Is the “Quit smoking now ad” I saw right before the video started directed at Obama? LOL

Advocate For Change on January 27, 2010 at 10:46 PM

Obama badmouthed the Supreme Court of the United States, accusing them of opening up politics for special interests that never left. And he did so before the court and nation.

He attacked the First Amendment and displayed blatant hypocrisy.

So Associate Justice Samuel Alito quietly pointed out he’s wrong? Too fricking bad.

amerpundit on January 27, 2010 at 10:47 PM

Justices (and their clerks) word hard to get the decisions right. It would definitely piss me off, probably to the point I’d have a reflexive reaction like that.

alflauren on January 27, 2010 at 10:47 PM

Is this the right clip?

David Shane on January 27, 2010 at 10:47 PM

It’s not a Joe Wilson moment since Alito doesn’t have to worry about losing his job or being disciplined. He could have gotten away with flipping Obama the bird and nothing would have happened to him.

mizflame98 on January 27, 2010 at 10:47 PM

And let’s keep in mind that all the SCOTUS did was uphold the First Amendment. Apparently that’s a bad thing in Obama World.

amerpundit on January 27, 2010 at 10:48 PM

Wrong clip?

greggriffith on January 27, 2010 at 10:48 PM

classicaliberal on January 27, 2010 at 10:49 PM

The first amendment is not the problems. Too big of a federal government is the problem.

WashJeff on January 27, 2010 at 10:49 PM

Too bad. I always considered Alito a distant third in SCOTUS insufferableness, after Thomas and Roberts. He might have hopped over Roberts with this debacle.

crr6 on January 27, 2010 at 10:49 PM

You made me sit through not one, but TWO clips of this arsehole! Gah!

Publicly shaming the Supreme Court. Nice, Mr. President.

Sigh. Is it 2012 yet?

jjshaka on January 27, 2010 at 10:50 PM

Good for Justice Alito. That was total crap. They all should have stood up and walked out when he said that.

David Shane on January 27, 2010 at 10:50 PM

Has any president ever done this? What a freakin’ p**** that boy is.

SouthernGent on January 27, 2010 at 10:50 PM

Obama had a lot of nerve lecturing the supreme court about their decision. His campaign was bankrolled by big corporations, unions, and foreign interest…or did that slip his mind?

mizflame98 on January 27, 2010 at 10:50 PM

I halfway expected them to stand up and walk out, en masse.

I cut Obama a lot of slack around here, but that was absolutely disgraceful.

JohnGalt23 on January 27, 2010 at 10:51 PM

What a classless jerk.

Advocate For Change on January 27, 2010 at 10:52 PM

Even Juan “Butt Kisser” Williams said that it was inappropriate of Obama to scold the Supreme Court, with congressional members cheering and clapping the scolding–that it could be seen as intimidating another branch of government.

And that’s the first time I agreed with Juan.

oh, that’s right. he had children. children that you libs mercilessly excoriated online.

why don’t you like thomas?

oh, that’s right. he’s a black conservative, who left the tenant SHARECROPPING FARM in south carolina, left the priesthood when his white classmates were laughing about mlk getting shot, and rose up through dc.

better yet, why don’t you like alito?

because obama called him out and alito shook his head?

reverse it: what if bush had called out the kelo decision and ginsberg shook her head? youd be ECSTATIC

picklesgap on January 27, 2010 at 10:52 PM

Nope, not wrong clip. You just have to wait through the initial commercial.

carbon_footprint on January 27, 2010 at 10:52 PM

One thing about Alito: he’ll be in his bench for a lot longer than Obama will be in his. For sure.

newton on January 27, 2010 at 10:52 PM

It’s interesting how our Super-Duper Harvard Law-certified Review Editorial-Precedent Constitutional Scholar Precedent doesn’t seem to have any understanding of, or respect for, our Constitution. We know that he isn’t smart and doesn’t understand much of anything, but this is just beyond words. Harvard Law should turn in its accreditation for obviously failing to adequately train competent people, and unleashing retards on the world with its imprimatur.

I can’t believe he called out SCOTUS like that. It looked horrible.

Sweeet. That’ll leave a mark (on Obama & Dems) by tomorrow.

tru2tx on January 27, 2010 at 10:53 PM

I believe Obama got some tips on how to act like a dictator from his advisor’s favorite philosopher Mao. To criticize the court in the SOTU address was not only wrong but a clear form of intimidation.

Too bad Alito is a gentleman, because had I been in his seat I wouldn’t have simply “mouthed” my objection.

smfoushee on January 27, 2010 at 10:53 PM

Obama doesn’t like the Constitution. Recall his contemptible statement that the Constitution is a charter of “negative liberties”? Recall his statement that the Warren court didn’t “go far enough”?

Obama is a Marxist to the bone. He can’t change. All he can do is hide and try to use the executive branch and the bureaucracies to undermine our republic. He requires close watching.

ya2daup on January 27, 2010 at 10:55 PM

How dare he question the SC.

Yellowdog12 on January 27, 2010 at 10:46 PM

Don’t worry..after he picks one more seat, all the progressive liberals will not have that kind of friction of years to come..and how many years does it take to set the foundation of case law that will change the way the country operates?

Itchee Dryback on January 27, 2010 at 10:55 PM

Obama hammers Supreme Court

This is what he learned from his buddy, Zelaya. It’s almost comical, were it not so dangerous.

neurosculptor on January 27, 2010 at 10:55 PM

Damn that court and its tedious First Amendment technicalities! Don’t those guys know that corporate money is to be extracted by the government, and transferred to ACORN and like organizations, which can be relied upon to fund the right sort of electoral activity? If organizations with money are allowed to spend it as they please, then Katy bar the door!

morganfrost on January 27, 2010 at 10:55 PM

Before his conviction, DC Mayor Marrion Barry lived among diplomats in the richest part of the city. After his jail time he re-emerged in the poorest precincts. He went from wearing business suits to wearing kente cloth and “urban wear.”

The filthy lying coward in the White House only wore a tie because that was what was expected.

Miss Molly on January 27, 2010 at 10:55 PM

don’t worry, he’ll dissolve the court by 2011

(just kidding)

i always LOVE how liberals hold up FDR as this great leader… and yet, in the midst of the great depression, when the court was striking down his policies, FDR tried to stack the supreme court by adding like 4 or 5 more justices…. if he couldn’t get 5/9 to agree, well, he could just add 4 friendlies and get a 8/13 vote every time.

THAT is called FASCISM— and yet, no one ever holds that up to criticize fdr. i love the man for winning wwii, but at home he tried to rule like a dictator.

Well obviously I don’t like his legal philosophy either. And he plays the victim card a bit too much for my taste.

Not that you’d care, but I think Scalia is brilliant. He’s churlish, mean-spirited and downright wrong on many legal issues, but no one can attack the guy’s intellect. He’s probably the best legal mind your side has ever had.
