Obama: Hey, maybe this ObamaCare process should have been more transparent

posted at 7:06 pm on January 26, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Breitbart, a minor masterpiece of O-speak insofar as he appears to accept responsibility — while inevitably blaming others. I should have done more, he confesses, to keep my promise about changing the culture in Congress. But when Sawyer presses him about the backroom deals, watch how quickly he moves to pass the buck to Reid and company: “Let’s just clarify. I didn’t make a bunch of deals.” Oh no? The Standard reminds us of this nugget in a WaPo story last month about Ben Nelson’s Cornhusker Kickback:

Schumer, who spent more than 13 hours in Reid’s office Friday, said the Medicaid issue was settled around lunchtime, and the final eight hours of the talks focused on the abortion language. Boxer estimated she spent seven hours in Reid’s offices — without ever once sitting in the same room, even though they were all of 25 steps apart.

Reid and Schumer kept up the “shuttle negotiation” between the leader’s conference room and his top aide’s office, Boxer said. Keenly aware how tense the talks were, the White House dispatched two aides who together have decades of experience in the Senate — Jim Messina and Peter Rouse — to work with Nelson. They relayed their intelligence to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who monitored the talks from a dinner in Georgetown.

Am I hallucinating or didn’t that HuffPo story that blew up back in August about a secret deal with the pharmaceutical industry also involve a White House angle or two?

Incidentally, this makes twice in 24 hours that he’s said or done something to make life more difficult for Congress even though they’re the ones who have to face voters in November, not him. Does he … want a Republican House next year? Is this actually some sort of master “Democrats under the bus” strategy at work?

Exit question: Who wants to be the one to tell Gibbs that his boss disagrees with him about whether or not there’s been sufficient transparency so far?

Blowback

The training wheels are falling off of Obama’s Presidency.

Can’t he just say he wants to spend more time with his zeppelin-sized ego and call it a career?

Then he can combine his real loves – badmouthing America, making speeches to foreigners and living overseas.

It’s not a “master strategy” of any sort, but it is exactly what I’ve been trying to tell you for a long time – He wants to sow chaos and bring our nation down. Period. He does whatever he thinks he has to do to keep the chaos building and to suck all the faith and confidence out of our critical institutions as possible. Once you realize this, you will understand his actions. There is nothing complicated about this and you are confronted by the same sort of evidence for it day after day after day.

As to the relationship between The Precedent and the dems, think of the dems as our little Europe. The Precedent hates them, but he likes to use their idiocy whenever it helps him and he likes to attack them when that helps his drive for chaos. Other than that, dems don’t even rate sets of DVDs, in The Precedent’s mind.

Obama’s above the Democrat party. They’re going to have to just . . . get used to that fact. The man’s ego knows no bounds.

And the thing is, once he gets a Republican Congress, he’ll just revert to blaming them for everything. He won’t even be able to work with them in a Clintonian fashion. He’ll pick fights instead. Maybe then we’ll see a scenario where Congress has higher approval ratings than the president.

I’m confused. If he sucks all of the confidence out of critical institutions (I assume you mean government institutions), then how will he get the public to trust and depend on said institutions to handle things like health care and such? I know where you are going with your comment, but it seems to me that you are using flawed logic.

He wants to create as much dependency on government because that translates into more power for the central government.

Now, if you meant private institutions and businesses I retract my confusion.

Sorry, but you’re right. He’ll be one for the history books alright.

I do think more and more people are becoming aware of this, however, and that’s a good thing. Of course the MSM wouldn’t report on what they knew about Obama and they wouldn’t even do any investigation (or if they did, they didn’t report it.) Beck, Michelle, Rush, Hannity, Levin, Laura Ingraham, Savage and many others have done a great job of getting the word out about Obama and his cronies. Without them, we’re be a fully socialized country by now. People now understand Cloward-Piven, Saul Alinsky, Wm. Ayres, Jeremiah Wright, ACORN, SEIU, etc. We know and now they know we know. And thank God above for Scott Brown and the voters of Massachusetts. That’s what caused the whole lefty machine to jump the tracks. Just the little stutter step we needed.

But now there’s a chink the armor and blood in the water. The left are starting to eat their own, but we still can’t let our guard down for one split second.

This SOTU would indeed be better with a laugh track but I think they should do the opposite. Keep in mind that the SOTU doesn’t even have to be delivered in person. It’s just become one of those big deals without any basis in the Constitution (beyond requiring the President to report on the state of the union).

The GOP should meet each lie with stony silence and only respond to non-controversial comments like praise for the troops.

I know where you are going with your comment, but it seems to me that you are using flawed logic.

The Precedent doesn’t care if about health care. Why do you think he allowed Reid and Pelosi to do whatever they wanted with it? Because all The Precedent wants is to f#ck up the US, and socialized health care is a good step towards that … if it ever got passed. But he didn’t care about that. All The Precedent wanted to do was cause problems and he knew that socialized health care, with his useful idiots full-force behind it, would cause tons of problems and chaos.

The Precedent has no idea of a nation that he is trying to build. All he wants to do is take us down. He sees himself as the avenging angel of the third world.

He wants to create as much dependency on government because that translates into more power for the central government.

Now, if you meant private institutions and businesses I retract my confusion.

alohapundit on January 26, 2010 at 7:35 PM

The Precedent wants to hit whites, the rich and the successful every chance he gets. He has no qualms about screwing over those who are dependent on government, in order to exact revenge against us – as he was very explicit about during the primary debates. He said that he would still raise captial gains taxes, even if he knew it would result in reduced receipts, because “it’s a matter of fairness”. This guy is just out for revenge. Lucky for him, too, because he’s too stupid to be able to carry out anything more complicated than that. Unluckily for us, sowing chaos requires no great skill and, in fact, ineptitude often serves to help sow chaos on its own.

Forget the fact that the SEIU and other union thugs were invited to the White House behind closed doors. Forget Rahm-bo and Obama telling Reid and Pelosi to just get anything passed no matter what it takes.

I certainly don’t think he’s wanted a GOP Congress all along. But going forward, that’s gotta be his strategy, at least subconsciously. He knows the “Blame Bush” card has just about expired. And there’s no way he can conceivably blame the Republicans for blocking his agenda with the majorities his party currently holds. So the only way he has a prayer at reelection(aside from a miraculous economic recovery) is to have someone to demonize. Enter a GOP-led House and possibly even the Senate.

As I said in the headlines, the most glaring example of Bammy’s deal making is when he exempted his precious unions from the Cadillac tax on health care:

The White House and labor leaders agreed Thursday on a formula to tax high-cost insurance plans, removing one of the last obstacles to President Obama’s healthcare overhaul, officials said.”…

Blame Congress?:

“The agreement has not been vetted by rank-and-file members of the Democratic caucus in either house of Congress. Nor has the Congressional Budget Office reviewed it. The proposed tax could be further modified based on feedback from lawmakers and the budget office”

And -

Reid and Pelosi, together with other senior legislators and staff, met from 10:30 a.m. to 6:40 p.m. ET Wednesday [at the White House]. President Obama stepped in and out of the meeting to deal with the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti, but was reported to be present for several hours.
