Jon Stewart: You didn’t really use a teleprompter inside a classroom, did you, champ?

posted at 6:35 pm on January 26, 2010 by Allahpundit

A dinnertime treat to cleanse the palate. It’s almost touching how dependent on TOTUS The One is, that he wouldn’t think to leave it behind on a trip to a school despite knowing how totally comically surreal the optics of this photo shoot would be. But maybe he’s just emulating Lincoln in that. Honest Abe always brought along a handler with cue cards when he had to visit a school, right?

This is only my second-most favorite story of the day about Obama’s fading mystique. Readers of our Headlines section already know what number one is. Exit quotation: “Barack Obama has yet to make a significant contribution to the Indonesian nation. We could say Obama only ate and s (expletive) in Menteng.”

Update: And … again. It’s like Linus with his security blanket.

What a tool. The president of the united states can’t even talk to a bunch of kids without a teleprompter. What a retard.

I teach high school kids, I don’t need anything silly like a teleprompter.

Nice Rove shout-out there, too.

Speedwagon82 on January 26, 2010 at 6:43 PM

Again, my chance to be ‘fair’ here – from that series of pictures, it seems pretty clear that there were 2 different classrooms – one that had the TOTUS/lecturn, and another that had the kids in it. You can tell, imo, from what’s on the wall in the background – the ‘kids’ session has what looks like wooden filing cabinets of some kind up to waist height all along the back wall, while the TOTUS room does not.

I’m enjoying that he’s catching grief over this, lol, but I’m not sure there’s a ‘there’ there on this one.

Yeah, no one’s claiming he used the prompter to talk to the kids. Just that it looks absurd to have him needing a prompter while standing in front of a blackboard, where millions of teachers speak extemporaneously for hours a day. I’m telling you, it’s Linus with the security blanket.

I agree the classroom wasn’t where the kids were “in session” but it is only marginally less ridiculous to need a teleprompter to address 12 adults!

Obama is not very bright. It is shown when he talks without notes. He stutters and stumbles. He also has to carefully craft what he says because his speaking defeats himself. Like the time he mentioned his “muslim religion”
He prefers taking crap on his cruthces than make huge blunders. If he spoke from the heart, all kinds of vulgarity would burble out like Jesse Jackson (the reverend One)

seven on January 26, 2010 at 6:50 PM

Even if he was talking to the press and not the sixth-graders, Midas, it’s *pitiful* that he needed speakers, both teleprompters and his special President podium to talk to a small group of people in a small room.

The fact that it’s obviously a classroom adds to the snicker factor, but is not vital to it.

tommer74 on January 26, 2010 at 6:54 PM

Remember the interviews at Saddleback Church? McCain came off as fairly articulate, but then so many years in politics had helped him develop the skill of speaking without notes and fielding questions.

Obama did so poorly that his campaign at first accused the pastor of leaking the questions to McCain. Obama’s people couldn’t face the obvious explanation for why Obama did worse than McCain.

Here he is, at his tennis watching best:

“Let me be clear. In the interest of national security — oh, first, let me give a shout out to our Attorney General, Eric Holder, thanks for keepin’ us safe — I know all of you are focused on this current risk assessment, and will do what’s best. Thanks AP. You are correct this guy shouldn’t need a teleprompter to speak to members of a taskforce. As a raw 2lt in the Air Force I got selected to give the weekly intelligence briefing to the then MAC headquarters senior staff and the Wing commanders staff. I had to prepare to give the briefing and answer questions about it. No notes allowed due to its classification. D*mn it if I could do that then if he’s as smart as everybody says he can to. This just really frosts me to no end.

In the begining we were told to be patient. After a modicum of time had past, Summer was upon us, we were again told to be patient. It’s been over a year now and we have been patient but this guy should have weened himself off this over usage of this TOTUS crutch by now. How? By practicing public speaking more without it instead of playing more rounds of golf in one year that most presidents do throughout four year term of office. Maybe he could have scaled back on some other forms of recreation too to become more independent and less reliant on TOTUS.

When you’re considered a reader instead of a leader that really ought to feel like a punch in the gut unless you’re oblivious to reality and full of yourself as Obama has so oftened demonstrated. He’s the quickest lame duck President in my lifetime and that even includes Jimmy ‘Sweater Speech’ Carter.

Americannodash on January 26, 2010 at 7:43 PM

This man has a serious case of TOTUS Dependency Syndrome.
By dragging these things to every single speech he makes, he is conditioning Americans to accept and be comfortable with the fact that he has no ability to speak with a genuine passion about anything. What an empty suit!

Remember how the Left mocked Bush for not running while screaming from a classroom on 9/11? AT least Bush had the calm, sense, and dignity to not scare children during a crisis.

Yet, here, the lib’s icon can’t talk to children without teleprompters.

Who, you lefties, is more genuine? Who is the smarter man? Who, really, is the better president?

This is the one–Obowmao–in whom you vested your entire stake.

I’d pity you lefties if I bothered caring about you. You bought a time share in someone who’s less than a figurehead. He’s just a trial balloon, and you dolts fell for sale of the advertisement but not the product.

Obama reminds me of a young Muhammad Ali. Ali was illiterate, but he could talk, and talk…

It was Bundini Brown, if I recall correctly, who wrote the poems that Ali used to spout. Because of his illiteracy he was vulnerable to radical influences like Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad.

Ali was the face, the megaphone, and the supposed champion of civil rights, but the nutjobs around him called the shots. In truth, Ali probably set the civil rights movement back 20 years.

Obviously, Obama can read, but like the young Ali, he lacks substance and promotes evil toward men.

pugwriter on January 26, 2010 at 8:01 PM

If you listen to Obama’s early interviews before his campaign took off, it is very clear that Obama has a speech impediment – he stutters.

Check out his early interview with Charlie Rose, as an example.

His communication team seems to have found a way to use TOTUS as a way to reduce his stuttering. And now they won’t let Obama leave home without TOTUS.
