Dem rep: We could totally pass health-care reform if we sent all the men home

posted at 7:02 pm on January 25, 2010 by Allahpundit

A palate cleanser via RCP in which, for the second time this week, a Democrat warns fellow legislators to act like ladies. Given the mood of the country towards O-Care, I’m not sure who this dopey piece of gender politics was aimed at. But I’ll give her this: If there’s one thing America loves about our Speaker, it’s her nurturing willingness to compromise.

First obligatory pat on the back comes from Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) on Monday called “irreverent” but accurate, comments made by a female colleague that Congress could pass healthcare reform if men were sent home…

“Carol Shea-Porter was I think expressing the frustrations in an irreverent way of a lot of women across this country,” Wasserman Schultz said on MSNBC. “We do have conversations like that in the bathroom among Republican and Democratic women.”…

But Wasserman Schultz, who is Democratic Chief Deputy Whip, agreed with Shea-Porter’s premise; that women have greater family responsibilities when it comes to healthcare.

“In terms of healthcare decisions, women make virtually all of the healthcare decisions, or are the main decision makers for most families,” Wasserman Schultz said.

By the same logic, if it’s true that most men are in charge of directing their families’ investments (is it?), I guess we could get more done on, say, overseeing the Fed and TARP if we sent the women home. Exit question: Will it make either party’s base happy to know that there are many women congressmen eager to compromise with the hated enemy across the aisle?

LORD , help us all. Who votes these jokers in?

LSUMama on January 25, 2010 at 8:16 PM

Put her on SCOTUS. This kind of prejudice seemed to qualify the last appointee.

Mark30339 on January 25, 2010 at 8:18 PM

Pfft. Real men dōn need no steenking rules.

davidk on January 25, 2010 at 8:19 PM

The bathroom? I am a woman and I do not talk health care or politics in the bathroom. Do her constituents know where she is getting her information? Is that where she gets her info on Global Warming? Where she decides her votes?

IowaWoman on January 25, 2010 at 7:10 PM

I think that’s called Gluteal Cooling, not Global Warming. Could be wrong, though — maybe they have seat warmers in there.

unclesmrgol on January 25, 2010 at 8:26 PM

Had the Americans not granted women the right to vote, I doubt they would now be so deeply in debt, nor faced with unsustainable commitments to lavish unmerited kindness on “seniors” for ten or fifteen years of their lives. Piteous women resemble predators who do not foresee the extinction of their prey.

Kralizec on January 25, 2010 at 8:27 PM

I don’t get why people like her don’t understand that as an intelligent, strong woman, I am capable of making my own decisions. I’m not conservative because my husband or some other man tells me to be. It’s just the way I think. I think it’s a terrible idea for the government to get into the health care business. And if I ever see Carol Shea Porter in the ladies’ room, I’ll tell her so. Someone said it earlier, and I agree — she is embarrassing to thinking women everywhere.

And no, you silly men, you can’t take away our right to vote. We would make you regret it for the rest of your sad, lonely lives.

CarolinaGirl6 on January 25, 2010 at 8:37 PM

“We go to the ladies room and the Republican women and the Democratic women and we just roll our eyes.”

Is that what womyn do in there? I’ve often wondered. Life is full of surprises.

rihar on January 25, 2010 at 7:25 PM

What I want to know is what they the couch in the ladies room is for.

Progressives.

massrighty on January 25, 2010 at 8:51 PM

Um… as a woman, I’m wondering certain things about the Dem women’s appearances, but don’t want to comment because it’s tacky. Perhaps if they received some gift certificates to certain places, they wouldn’t be so bitter.

Illinidiva on January 25, 2010 at 8:54 PM

You see, it’s ok to be sexist as long as it’s against the right gender.

scotash on January 25, 2010 at 9:02 PM

In the interests of gender equality, can’t we just send all of them home? It’s not like they’re helping or anything.

CarolinaGirl6 on January 25, 2010 at 8:37 PM

Would you agree that women such as yourself are in the minority?

It would seem that a strong woman has the ability to make herself more noticed than a strong man, because of the relative rarity.

OldEnglish on January 25, 2010 at 9:21 PM

Two things – I got a “Yes, dear.” I’m so proud…

And yes, women like myself are not the norm. The world couldn’t handle too many of us, I’m afraid. Just makes it frustrating that we’re all lumped together as a group of sappy people who vote based on emotions, just as I’m sure men get tired of being compared to Neanderthals.

Careful, big fella. The gender police are out and about.

CarolinaGirl6 on January 25, 2010 at 9:24 PM

I’ve been involved with females who – ahem – appreciated certain Neanderthal traits. No, I won’t elaborate. :)

platypus on January 25, 2010 at 9:27 PM

Debbie has obviously not seen a public ladies room before. If she went into a restroom maintained like a Starbucks women’s restroom she would run shrieking. As much as comedians joke about the toilet seat, that’s mild compared to what I’ve seen.

chunderroad on January 25, 2010 at 9:29 PM

Boy is this lady a shining example of why the 19th Amendment was the beginning of the end for the Republic.

platypus on January 25, 2010 at 9:25 PM

Heh! The question is: which gender have I upset the most?

OldEnglish on January 25, 2010 at 9:48 PM

My ovaries disavow these women and their silly statements.

Mine too.

“In terms of healthcare decisions, women make virtually all of the healthcare decisions, or are the main decision makers for most families,” Wasserman Schultz said.

If bullsh!t hasn’t been called on this already. BULLSH!T

My wife is a nurse and has plenty of medical knowledge which, in the event of a medical crisis she would share with me, and I would make the decision.

Taking care of sick people is her job, not making decision about their care. Medical professionals do.

Since we have no medical professional at home in a medical crisis, we share info and I make the call, always.

Wasserman Shultz needs to prove her statement. I don’t buy it.

donh525 on January 25, 2010 at 10:11 PM

She needs to be reminded that it was men who gave her the vote. Men can take it away.

davidk on January 25, 2010 at 7:27 PM

How about you guys stop talking about the franchise and start getting your male friends to stop voting for these liberal b*****s?? (Pelosi, Boxer, Murray, Schakowski, the b**** from Michigan, my own lovely and talented Sheila Jackson Lee, the two morons from Washington state, McCaskill, it goes on and on and on). Have you confronted your liberal male friends about their votes? And remember, Obama won the male vote, if only by a small margin. This Shea-Porter harpy garnered a pretty big share of the male vote. The gender gap is not that big.

And what, exactly, would change for us?

James on January 25, 2010 at 10:24 PM

I just HATE Sarah Palin when she talks like this….
Wha? It wasn’t her?

Had to have been Michelle Bachmann, then. Hmmm? Wasn’t her?

Never mind, then. I just think this kind of speech reminds me of what I heard in San Francisco back in the 1970s.

HAnthonyWayne on January 25, 2010 at 10:36 PM

Here’s a documentary for these Congresswomen: “The Monstrous Regiment of Women“.
I’ve wondered about this: if feminists are all about equality, then why does WIC exist and why do women have different standards on the Army Physical Fitness Test? There are no “gender lanes” in combat, no signs saying “men fight on this side, women on that side.”
Also, why is it that my wife, who’s made the choice to be a homemaker, can’t claim childcare expenses on our taxes, even if it’s for volunteer work, whereas a working mom can? Feminists are all about supporting the choices of women, so long as it falls in line with their view of what those chioces should be.

Sadly, this statement (which is wholly true) answers the questions you pose.

massrighty on January 25, 2010 at 10:55 PM

Well here’s a conundrum: if we send all the men home and we send all the women home…how do we get rid of pelosi?

jgdp on January 25, 2010 at 11:10 PM

“We do have conversations like that in the bathroom among Republican and Democratic women.”…

As if the Republicans get to participate in those conversations either…

Good point.
Would Michelle Bachmann have been part of this distaff cabal? I doubt it. I guess that makes her not really a woman in the same way Condi Rice isn’t really black.

SKYFOX on January 26, 2010 at 8:12 AM

Yea, let’s send all the men home and then the women can defend the country. Yea, that’s the ticket!

Does anyone know a woman who has a hyphenated last name and isn’t crazy?

orlandocajun on January 26, 2010 at 8:17 AM

As a woman. Thank you men for having some sense.

We need to lower the cost of health care. We don’t need paternalist government programs that sap our wealth.

If other women can’t see that they are the ones who should go home.

petunia on January 26, 2010 at 9:43 AM

My eyes roll right back.

RobCon on January 26, 2010 at 10:15 AM

Which proves that women shouldn’t vote…..lol

lilium on January 26, 2010 at 10:46 AM

It’s true enough that women voters have saddled us with our current welfare state. Check the male vs female voting statistics. Heck, Obama couldn’t have won if he relied only on the male vote. Women lurve that “free” government money…

quikstrike98 on January 26, 2010 at 2:25 PM
