Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?
posted at 9:00 am on January 24, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
It’s time once again to pick Barack Obama’s most amateurish stumble of the week! Don’t worry about whether you’re familiar with these missteps – just follow presidential precedent and make assumptions. We’re not here to demonize, but just to keep on trucking. Of course, maybe Obama has a great explanation for these flops, and as soon as he’s done putting a tax cheat in charge of a crackdown on, er, tax cheats, I’m certain he can reassure us that we’re too dense to comprehend his brilliance.
Update: I originally had the truck quote as “drive” rather than “buy.” Thanks to Little Miss Attila for the first heads-up on this goof.
Previous 2010 “winners”:
- Suddenly jobs saved or created “never expected to be the public accounting of Obama’s goal to save or create 3.5 million jobs”
- Obama rushes home for minor injury to family friend, keeps golfing after EunuchBomber attack

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Too many good choices. I went with #1, simply because now Dear Liar is 0 for 3 in elections where He explicitly campaigns for the candidate. Including losing the Kennedy Seat.

These are getting SOOO hard to choose .. our dear leader-less makes these choices virtually impossible !!
I suggest a RATING system for the weekly gaffs.
1 = best/worst, 5 = least impresive .. y’all know what I mean.
That we can actually ‘go here’, using things from his very own lips, is just so remarkably digusting !!
pambi on January 24, 2010 at 11:34 AM
Outstanding. Do you have more?
I, too, can’t quite figure out how this train wreck will end or what it will look like. It is so unpredictable. Earlier I was holding out for the orange jumpsuit perp walk, but now I really don’t care how it happens. I could now hope that he just can’t stand the pressure anymore and walks out in the middle of the night to go back to Chicago. It would be easier for everyone so that his life can unravel so we can actually see what we bought.

Unlike Obama, real men and women drive trucks.
ReagansRight on January 24, 2010 at 11:41 AM
Wouldn’t he have to use a truck to move all that loot back home?
Yoop on January 24, 2010 at 11:45 AM
“Everbody can drive a truck” takes the cake, as it reveals how politically stupid Obama really is. The pickup truck is a beautiful piece of campaigning, and anyone as supposedly good at winning elections should have understood it. It appears that Obama’s one supposed talent, isn’t really a talent at all.

After Failed Bid to Elect Democratic Senator in Massachusetts, Obama Asked to Campaign on Behalf of Smoking in Hopes of Making It Much Less Popular http://optoons.blogspot.com/2010/01/after-failed-bid-to-elect-democratic.html

My personal favorite was on Friday when Obama called the Healthcare bill a “monstrosity.”
Deanna on January 24, 2010 at 12:02 PM
I went with “truck”, as it was the a “10″ on the scale of elitism — perfect condescension, with a side of cold and mean-spirited arrogance.
Mutnodjmet on January 24, 2010 at 12:03 PM
I also went with truck, although this was a tough week :)
I think the truck comment had the most impact on the folks, but “face time” was also classic Bambi
JusDreamin on January 24, 2010 at 12:06 PM
You know, if there can be a visual “Obamateurism of the Week” (sort of like an audio Daily Double on ‘Jeopardy!’), I think the second of these two photos from last Tuesday (from Doug Powers’ blog via Ed Driscoll) ought to be in the mix. Just try to imagine the reaction from the big media outlets and the late night comedians if George W. Bush had done something like this.
jon1979 on January 24, 2010 at 12:08 PM
Good point, however here in this part of fly over country, we don’t have a lot of those priuses. A few, but there are far more pickups and SUV’s than those things.
kam582 on January 24, 2010 at 12:13 PM
This was one of the toughest choices I’ve ever made.
JimP on January 24, 2010 at 12:19 PM
Didn’t he say “Anyone can buy a truck, too?” If he did, that strikes me as even worse.
Scott P on January 24, 2010 at 12:27 PM
Exactly the quote from Steyn that I was going to post an example.
The column in question is an absolute masterpiece, even by Steyn’s standards.

Ah. It’s “everybody can buy a truck.” Hey sport- I’ve been unemployed for 6 months now. Speak for yourself, asshole.
Fortunately I already have one.

Ah. He said “everybody can buy a truck.”

Scott P on January 24, 2010 at 12:35 PM
I voted for the “truck”. Perhaps nothing better emphasized just how out of touch Obama is with the American people, and specifically the American voters. But he’s not alone, that’s just about every Democrat these days, they cannot fathom why America has turned on them and somehow come up with the answer that they’re just not being far-left / quasi-socialist ENOUGH.

I Drive A Truck & According to Howard Fineman of News Week, that must make me a racist. How is President Obama empathizing with me again?
Dr Evil on January 24, 2010 at 12:45 PM

txhsmom on January 24, 2010 at 12:54 PM
I have a ford 350 to pull my horse trailer. I was inspired by Obama to drive it around for a couple of days even though its a pain to park. I vote the truck nothing like insulting half the country.
ldbgcoleman on January 24, 2010 at 12:58 PM
Clearly the real problem is that people are unhappy with Obama’s performance because he didn’t give us enough cowbell.
Daggett on January 24, 2010 at 12:59 PM
I went with the first one although I wouldn’t fight for or against any of them. I have respect for being able to come up with an actual list this week since it needed to be updated every hour since Monday…….
By far his worst week in the history of his presidency. And I take pride as a citizen of Florida who gave money to the Brown campaign and made phone calls on his behalf.
It was all me baby! : )

ObaMao is a big FAIL. He did it all on his own.

I gave $$$$$$$$$$$$$ & made calls too, among other things.
OmahaConservative on January 24, 2010 at 1:32 PM
I went with the majority (so far) on this one. The incredible irony and self-delusion in tHE WON is just astonishing.
Meanwhile – Lefty Fatalism is getting hysterical. I forwarded this one to Tips, it’s chock-full-o-fun.
Fishoutofwater on January 24, 2010 at 1:33 PM
Tough call. I had it down between the truck and “not enough time.” I went with the face time one since it’s all the guy has done!
RedNewEnglander on January 24, 2010 at 1:39 PM
Just checked the vid of that truck crack of ObaMao. He did say, “Everybody can buy a truck.” What is more telling and stupid is that he followed that remark by saying, “I’d think long and hard about riding in that truck with Martha’s opponent.”
onlineanalyst on January 24, 2010 at 1:56 PM
O’s truck comment had all the class of a 4th-grader’s school yard taunt. How presidential he sounded. It was a week filled amateurisms by the rookie of WH rookies.
LonelyMassRepublican on January 24, 2010 at 2:15 PM
Really hard to decide, but I had to go with the truck,if only because of Scott Brown’s response.I like the idea of a rating system because it gets harder to decide on one.
DDT on January 24, 2010 at 2:27 PM
Lack of face time. POS couldn’t even take the time to explain my core values to me? WTF? How am I supposed to know without BigBrother enlightening me?
Gang-of-One on January 24, 2010 at 2:36 PM
I chose the truck.
#4 is more his minions than him.
uknowmorethanme on January 24, 2010 at 2:43 PM
I picked the arrogant one. Errr wait. That’s all of them. I picked the one, where the messiah speaks, and says , or does something stupid. Errr wait. That’s all of them too. Does this make my case for an “all of the above” option? LOL
Just kidding. I picked his whining about not getting enough face time. We’ve seen him on an almost daily basis on tv, since he threw his hat into the ring, to run for the Presidency, and he still couldn’t convey his message? That is the ultimate in tools right there.
capejasmine on January 24, 2010 at 3:46 PM
This video clip of Obama where he blames bush for Scott Browns win in Massachusetts to me is one of the top Obamateurisms of all.

Had to go with the 22% in this country that can’t buy a truck right now.
Hog Wild on January 24, 2010 at 4:26 PM
What I wouldn’t give to borrow my brother’s Ford pickup, drive it to Washington and do doughnuts all over the White House lawn so I could rip the well-manicured turf to shreds. If I did that, then Maobama would claim that the groundskeepers needed to fix the lawn were jobs created or saved.
Philly on January 24, 2010 at 4:45 PM
Fish – that was excellent! Thanks.
PatMac on January 24, 2010 at 6:54 PM
Great idea. Would you and your brother mind if rode in the bed wearing my Indian garb and tossed crates of tea out of bed of that Ford pickup truck and onto the White House lawn? My Indian war-yell will be, “Great Scott!”
ReagansRight on January 24, 2010 at 7:17 PM
I hope his use of a teleprompter to address SIXTH GRADERS will make the cut next week.
