Scarborough blasts Olbermann for smearing Brown
posted at 2:10 pm on January 19, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
Reaction to Keith Olbermann’s special comment about Scott Brown calling him “homophobic” and “racist” on the basis of … well, nothing, brought a swift reaction from fellow MS-NBC host Joe Scarborough. Scarborough blasted Olbermann for his smear last night on Twitter, and then followed up this morning with a shot at him on Morning Joe. Mediaite’s Steve Krakauer has both videos:
This isn’t the first time Scarborough has essentially called out Olbermann, but on-air, it is never by name. His one reference on Morning Joe today to the Olbermann comment followed the same model. “A certain person on this network, whose name will not be mentioned, went on a tirade the likes of which are sad and pathetic,” he said.
But even on Twitter, the comment is out there, and the shot is direct. Is it MSNBC civil war? Not quite. But we’ll see if Olbermann has a response tonight – especially if the “bad joke” ends up winning.
As Steve mentions, Joe was more direct on Twitter:
Obermann calls Brown a “homophobic racist reactionary” who “supports violence against women.” How reckless and how sad.
It is no longer enough to simply disagree with someone. These days some feel the need to call opponents evil. It happens on both extremes.
Just as when Beck called the President racist, this sort of rhetorical extremism must be discouraged. It cheapens the debate.
What are the odds that Olby names himself the “Worst Person in the World” for his transgressions? I’d say a lot lower than “honoring” his fellow MS-NBC host. Kudos to Scarborough, though, for making the obvious plain on his network, which shows guts that others on that network apparently lack — including its management.

What to look for tonight (other than Olberman and Maddow and Matthews in tears).

Scarborough has some decency. Olby should be taken off the air. Maybe give Conan his slot.

Good on Joe for speaking his mind. Not that it will do any good with those in charge or Olby.

Scarborough Vs. Olbermann. No matter who wins they’re both losers.

Steady Joe . . . Olbermann is rancid rat dung and isn’t worth your ire.

Olberman won’t show his face on TV if Brown is declared the winner early on.

Olbermann seems a little too fixated on Brown’s “bare bottom”.
JA on January 19, 2010 at 2:20 PM
They were playing Olberman’s quote on 96.9 this morning (talk radio for boston.) and the host and all of the callers were laughing so hard they could barely talk. Nobody takes Olberman seriously.

How can you be a homophobe and a teabagger? Riddle me that Olberdouche!
saltydogg14 on January 19, 2010 at 2:20 PM
Well if Olbermann can’t name David Schuster THE WPITW for saying that he has no problems voting twice, especially to beat those bastards….I’m not counting on it.

A fight at MSNBC.. tune in and find out!
Don’t bite..these guys will do anyhing for attention..and ratings.
IlikedAUH2O on January 19, 2010 at 2:20 PM
Liberalism is a mental disorder. Olberman, Schultz, Matthewa, Grayson, the list goes on and on, are perfect examples of this fact. Racist, homophobic and teabaggers are clues on how to spot libtards if someone uses these terms to describe those who may disagree with them.
volsense on January 19, 2010 at 2:20 PM
Joe is a squish…he’s not comparible to Olby or that other knucklehead on MSNBC Ed “I know nothing!” Schultz. Once he starts doing nazi salutes and advocating vote theft, we can talk.
Asher on January 19, 2010 at 2:21 PM
Seriously… you’ve got people here acting like Scarborough is some great hero for simply stating the obvious about Olbermann’s outrageous comments (btw, he followed with the obligatory “both sides” BS and a slap at Beck)… People, Scarborough is still a douche.. this is just the “even a broken clock is right twice a day” thing… It’s the same thing with Shep on Fox.
RightWinged on January 19, 2010 at 2:22 PM
HA. I wrote several places offering to be a token homophobe, racist and bigot and was told that there were no openings. Does this mean I have to run for the Senate?
IlikedAUH2O on January 19, 2010 at 2:22 PM
And, I expect to see journalists knocking each other over trying to get every democrat they can shove a mic in front of to publicly denounce Olbermann’s comments.
I’m waiting……
Any minute now……

Sharke on January 19, 2010 at 2:23 PM
Those anti-Brown ads run by the Coakley campaign are in this vicious vein with nothing to back it up too. Just more evidence that liberals think their constituency are dumb as rocks. How they manage to keep anyone in their camp is a mystery.
jeanie on January 19, 2010 at 2:23 PM
I don’t know if anyone else picked up on it but there’s a faint hint of double entendre in that headline.
Pcoop on January 19, 2010 at 2:24 PM
I’m wondering…if comcast gets to buy NBC, is Joe worried they’ll want the news shows, and formats more…balanced, and is working on his journalistic future, by showing he can be? lol Not a good time to lose a job, when there are so few around the corner.
As for Olberman, the only people I can see, giving a rats arse to what he says, or thinks are…his mother, and his pet. And those are questionable too. LOL

I surprised that one of these losers hasn’t dropped the F bomb. That always gets a ripple.
IlikedAUH2O on January 19, 2010 at 2:25 PM
Scarborough really didn’t have a choice, since he’s been haranguing Republicans for the past four years on MSNBC about running candidates who are too ideological. Brown’s not (and some of his future votes if he wins tonight will no doubt tee off a lot of conservatives), and if Joe had said nothing about Keith’s effort to paint Scott as a cross between Glenn Beck, Pat Buchanan and Adolf Hitler on steroids he might as well of just taken what ever self-respect he’s got left and tossed it on the subway tracks below the GE Building.
As for Keith, odds are he shows up in top petulant form for the 8 p.m. Eastern show, and 50-50 he doesn’t show up at all on Wednesday, or if they go live with “Countdown” at 10 p.m. tonight, if Brown beats Coakley.

upinak on January 19, 2010 at 2:27 PM
I haven’t watched MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, or CNN in over a year now. They lost my trust, and I have nothing to do with them, or their networks anymore. Not even for local news. This is something that wouldn’t get me to view them. I don’t give in to sensationalism. Makes me wonder though. Perhaps this is what’s behind the Leno/OBrien feud? Conans ratings have skyrocketed since this crap began. Maybe this is ALL just a stunt to garner ratings.
capejasmine on January 19, 2010 at 2:28 PM
But, as a matter of fact, I do consider the current POTUS and his administration evil. Each and every day they find new ways to destroy American values, make the country less safe, and otherwise sow the seeds of socialism, generational economic gloom, and a psuedo-tolerance that merely emboldens our enemies. To my mind Barak Hussein Obama and his agenda are pure evil. It is not enough to simply disagree with the filthy lying coward in the White House- he needs to be stopped. If Brown wins tonight (I have a bad feeling he will not) then that is one step closer to stamping out evil. It really is that simple.

Need we be reminded that Glenn Beck’s assessment came on the heels of Obama gratuitous racially-biased comments against the Cambridge police after the Henry Louis Gates arrest? Has Scott Brown even come close to anything like that in order to deserve Scarborough equating what Beck said with what Olbermann said?

Urban Infidel on January 19, 2010 at 2:33 PM
If he sticks to the message of smaller government and fiscal responsibility, an awful lot of the other stuff can be forgiven. Mass. is simply not a hotbed of social and evangelical conservatism. The only thing I would ask of Senator Brown is a more principled track record on the issues than the Maine sisters have shown. You need only wave pork under their noses to get them to abandon the right (I’m surprised that there wasn’t a bribe there to go along with the Cornhusker Kickback and the Louisiana Purchase).

What cheapens the debate is demanding we argue about the future without considering the past and present of the guy speaking. That’s why Barney Frank can sound off about banking and ethics and we have to argue hypotheticals instead of certain “cheapening” facts.

But a late effort is better than no effort at all, I guess.

The likes of Olberman and Grayson are God’s gift to conservatives. There is a clear and stark contrast between people like Scott Brown and Sarah Palin and lunatics like those two. Thank God they’re supporting the Democrats.
orlandocajun on January 19, 2010 at 2:40 PM
I’m tired of the equivalence crap. When does it happen on the other “extreme?” Examples? When Beck called Obama “racist” he cited statements and policies, and a specific pattern. And the “extreme” on the Left is now installed in the mainstream, where conservatives are basically censored.

I can picture Olbie Non Cajones going nuclear tonight if Brown wins. I expect commentary like the voters were taken in by slick advertising and propaganda. The quiet RNC support will also probably be cited, claiming Brown is all the things said last night, as is the RNC.
I don’t doubt Olbie will be spitting mad at a Brown win, with his usual vitriol going in all directions. If so, it’ll be a popcorn moment.

Yeah but to see Matthews and Olbermann crying? That is worth a pretty penny’s worth of ratings.

Note to MSNBC: LEG CHILLS AND RANTS AREN’T ENOUGH!
If your anchors show up with paper bags, pull out .357 pistols and fire into their own temples, I promise to tune in. They could do a rant about Hope and Change first. They have tried every other type of crazed thought and behavior.
If they were truly dedicated they would do it.

Obly is incredibly disgusting. We all know that.
And Joey is all about Joe. He used to be someone that I thought was going to be someone in the GOP, a true leader, but the turned total sellout.
But doesn’t Peggy Noonan come across as just so incredibly oily these days?
She truly is one of the Country Club Republicans that hates the grass roots. She would rather the GOP stay a small meaningless party if it can simply keep out those nasty people who shop at Wal-Mart and attend Nascar races.
She is someone I can’t stand more than Olby, because she pretends to be part of “our” side.

A generation or two ago, this wasn’t the case. Liberalism was on the right side of many (but not all) issues, such as civil rights. Liberals were honorable, and often selfless. At the very least, you could call them well intentioned.
But after a generation of enabling and pandering, today’s liberal leadership can be described as obdurate: committed to their ways even when they’ve been proven to be ineffective or detrimental. The liberal leadership, the entrenched powers, in their hell-bent efforts to retain their power, couldn’t care less about the disenfranchised in society. They use the downtrodden to pave their own roads to glory and riches. They usurp the good reputations of past leaders, and wrap themselves in the mantle of compassion.
Oh far they’ve fallen.
MassVictim on January 19, 2010 at 3:06 PM
You have a few choices:
1. You can pee in your pants
2. You can start a fire and pee on it(make sure its not an electrical fire, as you make get an unpleasant surprise)
3. You can pee in a cup, empty soda can, in your neighbor’s yard(payback for their dog)
4. You can rush to the bathroom and use the toilet like most other people
…and the correct answer is?……
