Quotes of the day

posted at 11:24 pm on January 19, 2010 by Allahpundit

“Fellow citizens, what happened in this election can happen all over America. We are witnesses, you and I, to the truth that ideals, hard work, and strength of heart can overcome any political machine. We ran a campaign never to be forgotten, and led a cause that deserved and received all that we could give it.

“And now, because of your independence, and your trust, I will hold for a time the seat once filled by patriots from John Quincy Adams to John F. Kennedy and his brother Ted. As I proudly take up the duty you have given me, I promise to do my best for Massachusetts and America every time the roll is called.

“I go to Washington as the representative of no faction or interest, answering only to my conscience and to the people. I’ve got a lot to learn in the Senate, but I know who I am and I know who I serve.

“I’m Scott Brown,

“I’m from Wrentham,

“I drive a truck, and I am nobody’s senator but yours.”

I think this was a gaffe BUT growing up as one of four girls my father made jokes like this a lot. I cringed a lot. This was just a family schtick and really his way of saying look how great these girls are. You can’t raise four girls, send them all to college, beam with pride with any accomplishment no matter how small and be sexist or whatever charge the left will use about Brown’s statements. He would have been better off had he skipped saying it but I totally get how proud he is of those girls.

Michelle was right the other day when she said Obama has the reverse Midas touch. The guy can’t deliver. And I can’t wait for him to take a more “combative” approach, as Politico reported he was going to do if Brown won.

This is not over.

If you think the Boston Globe/Democratic Party are going to accept this outcome, you’ve got a surprise coming.

The Democrats tried to bury candidate Brown in over $3 million worth of MUD. Their only problem was that they were caught off guard and got a late start.

Now they have all the time in the world.

They will make life an absolute political hell for Senator Brown. The Globe will bury him in muck up to his knees by Spring, up to his neck by Summer, and then finish off the job by the end of this year.

After all, this is Massachusetts we are talking about, the epicenter from which all Democratic Party slime, mud and filth has emanated to pollute the Country from coast to coast for more than half a Century.

Scotty doesn’t have a chance in this hostile environment.

Yep, he’s gonna piss me off but he seems to be the kind whose ONLY gonna represent MA’s interests. That suits me fine. Anythings better than the duo we’ve been living with but this is icing on the cake! Enjoy!

How long before Democrats/media start attacking Brown’s daughters?

RightWinged on January 20, 2010 at 2:51 AM

Drudge’s top red headline currently reads:

NOW… WILL HE RUN FOR PRESIDENT?

I haven’t researched this guy a lot, and have been here on Hot Air wondering why everyone is so excited about his potential win (now win) legislatively (I get the political gain)… but if AllahPundit is right in one of his earlier posts that he supported RomneyCare, and more importantly that he’s Pro-Abortion (or Pro-”Choice” as murder appeaser AllahPundit calls it), I’m more than a little concerned.

Again, I don’t think this will matter much legislatively in the present… But if the media is already talking POTUS, it looks like we may be looking at McCain 2.0… just another progressive.

We need to clean house people. Beck was right because Obama was better than McCain because at least The One was such an extremist that it hit us like a bro getting tazed (my words). McCain was taking us down the same path, just slower… and more discretely.

I’m not as far as Beck in saying “the parties are the same”, but we need to be VERY careful about pushing progressives in our own party.

Mr. Brown Goes to Washington… In a Pick-up Truck, No Less!

Congratulations to the new Senator-elect from Massachusetts! Scott Brown’s victory proves that the desire for real solutions transcends notions of “blue state” and “red state”. Americans agree that we need to hold our politicians accountable and bring common sense to D.C.

Recent elections have taught us that when a party in power loses its way, the American people will hold them accountable at the ballot box. Today under the Democrats, government spending is up nearly 23 percent and unemployment is higher than it’s been in a quarter of a century. For the past year they’ve built a record of broken promises, fat cat bailouts, closed-door meetings with lobbyists, sweetheart deals for corporate cronies, and midnight votes on weekends for major legislation that wasn’t even read. The good citizens of Massachusetts reminded Democrats not to take them for granted.

Americans cheered for Scott Brown’s underdog campaign because they viewed his candidacy as a vote against the Democrats’ health care bill. You know that there’s something wrong with this legislation when opposition to it inspired a Republican victory in a state that currently has no Republicans in Congress and last sent a Republican to the Senate nearly 40 years ago.

Clearly this victory is a bellwether for the big election night ten months from now. In the spirit of bipartisanship, let me offer some advice to the Democrats on how to stem this populist tide. Scrap your current health care bill and start from scratch. We all want true reform, but government mandated insurance is not it. Scott Brown campaigned against this top-down bureaucratic mess. We need common sense solutions like reforming malpractice laws, allowing people to purchase insurance across state lines, giving individual purchasers the same tax benefits as those who get coverage through their employers, and letting small businesses pool together to provide insurance for their employees. Focus your efforts on jobs, not on job-killing legislation. Such a change in approach would show Americans that you’re listening.

My best wishes to Senator-Elect Brown. When you go to Washington, may you never forget the ordinary citizens you met while driving that truck through the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

He is NOT another progressive — how about you get on that research you haven’t done yet before labeling him?

He is a conservative, ran as a conservative, and hopefully will govern as a conservative. Read his positions. Listen to what he’s said. No other conclusion.

In fact, I’m still waiting to learn how exactly he’s the “RINO” or “moderate” everyone keeps claiming he is. He’s not just the best we can do in Massachusetts — he’s great period. OmahaConservative on January 20, 2010 at 4:06 AM

People keep claiming he is pro-choice. I guess that is true by matter of degree, but he seems to hold a rather conservative position with regards to pro-choice, especially considering he was running in MA.

While this decision should ultimately be made by the woman in consultation with her doctor, I believe we need to reduce the number of abortions in America. I believe government has the responsibility to regulate in this area and I support parental consent and notification requirements and I oppose partial birth abortion. I also believe there are people of good will on both sides of the issue and we ought to work together to support and promote adoption as an alternative to abortion.

He may not be as pro-life as some would want, but his position isn’t a deal breaker. A true pro-choice person doesn’t talk about government should regulate in this area…they think that until you cut the umbilical cord, its alright to kill the kid. A true pro-choice person doesn’t talk about adoption as an alternative.

I think Brown is a conservative when it comes to issues like fiscal responsibility and taxes and national security. He is not as conservative on some social issues. So far as I know the Tea Party people are not out there because of issues like abortion, they are out there in streets because of issues like trillion dollar deficits. That is what is the driving force behind the discontent.

MA just sent a Republican to the Senate in what was once the Kennedy’s seat, for crying out loud.

You want to know why the Dems control the House, Senate and hold the White House? It’s because of people on the right across the country who aren’t satisifed unless a candidate is 100% perfect.

It’s because those on the left are able to outwit so many on the right (ya, I said it) and get them fighting each other, dividing each other, and helping to pick our own candidates for us.

We need to have Scott Brown rallies all up and down the North East Corridor to cheer him on as he drives his truck down to Washington DC.

Haiku Guy on January 20, 2010 at 6:57 AM

Another reason to celebrate gloat:
IT IS OBAMA’S 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY, NOT JUST SCOTT BROWN’S WIN!

I am sure there are a lot of reasons, but I think we lost because of the economic meltdown. McCain actually had a slight lead before that. But, then again, who knows really?

Terrye on January 20, 2010 at 6:55 AM

I know. At least enough that you don’t defeat a charismatic candidate with a cult following with a candidate who loathes much of his own base and has a platform that is essentially the same as the other guy.

McCain was simply the wrong candidate for the 2008 elections.

Did you see Keith Olbermann RAILING calling Brown a Racist, Rapist, Sexist, VIOLENT towards women?

WHAT A BABY and a sore loser Keith is!

rednebulastudios on January 20, 2010 at 6:08 AM

I tuned in MSNBC for a few minutes last night to see their reaction and I caught Olbermann’s comments. He amuses me. Actually, all three of them (Maddow and Matthews added in) amuse me.

Sincerely, my hats off to you OC, you were an inspiration to all most of us. Your “persistance” was admirable to say the least. Hope you got some well deserved sleep.

highhopes on January 20, 2010 at 7:04 AM

I am beginning to think there wasn’t a right candidate in 2008. The base was angry with the spending on the Medicare Rx program and all the independents were spooked by the bursting of the housing bubble.

We’ve been running on cutting taxes for years. I think it’s time we start to reduce spending as well. Brown touched on this in his speech. Let’s hope he follows through and the rest of the GOP and some Blue Dogs fall in line.

Those of us in California must get rid of boxer, but we must not replace her with another Marxist clone of Boxer…

doriangrey on January 20, 2010 at 6:54 AM

As a native of Cal, nothing would please me more than to see Madam Boxer, errr, “Senator” have her @ss thrown out of office, (along with Pelosi and Harmon), BUT, this state MUST begin to purge the scum in the statehouse—a task that may now have become a possibility, when yesterday it was only a dream.
