Quotes of the day
posted at 11:24 pm on January 19, 2010 by Allahpundit
“Fellow citizens, what happened in this election can happen all over America. We are witnesses, you and I, to the truth that ideals, hard work, and strength of heart can overcome any political machine. We ran a campaign never to be forgotten, and led a cause that deserved and received all that we could give it.
“And now, because of your independence, and your trust, I will hold for a time the seat once filled by patriots from John Quincy Adams to John F. Kennedy and his brother Ted. As I proudly take up the duty you have given me, I promise to do my best for Massachusetts and America every time the roll is called.
“I go to Washington as the representative of no faction or interest, answering only to my conscience and to the people. I’ve got a lot to learn in the Senate, but I know who I am and I know who I serve.
“I’m Scott Brown,
“I’m from Wrentham,
“I drive a truck, and I am nobody’s senator but yours.”

imo, the MA race was mostly an inter-dem squabble, btwn “regular” Dems, and “Progressives” over just how far left the party ought to be. That’s good, and can be replicated elsewhere, but I don’t know whether it has much to do with a resurgence of traditional conservative values. My guess is that most Scott Brown voters will be happy when they’re voting Dem again.
Now the Frum’s of the world will be arguing that socially moderate NE Republicans like Brown represent the future. Although that didn’t work for McCain, Scott Brown is a lot prettier.

Good morning all. I woke up this morning thinking last night was just a dream. Much to my delight I found out it was true. IMHO this is the beginning of the end. NO more will people sit by and watch their country be stolen from them and their children. No longer will people sit by and ask themselves dismissively “what can we do”. This was the vote heard around the country. It has awakened something so deep, so primal, so instinctual that it cannot be denied nor ignored. Massachusetts is only the beginning, other states will fall in the eyes of the democrat party. Delaware, ND, et al.
Keep up the fight ladies and gentlemen, to the victor will go the spoils. They are running scared and we will make sure they keep running, right out of office. This is OUR country. It is up to us to protect it and everything it was founded upon. We will not go down without a fight.
To those of you in my generation (I am 39), this is OUR LEGACY. This is OUR contribution to OUR COUNTRIES history. It is OUR responsibility to protect OUR countries future for OUR children like our parents and grandparents did for them. We will not fail. As we have seen, the potential consequences are far to dire.
Congratulations Mr. Brown: we stand with you!

I think we can both agree- MCCAIN did not lose due to the imaginary quest for GOP Purity.

Obviously this is a fantastic win for America and the GOP! But now I am reading on Drudge some are saying he needs to run for President.
Uhh, a few folks might be getting a little carried away. Moderates perhaps. This is where some people go a little overboard. Brown is a great Senator for Massachusetts. He came along in the right place at the right time! It’s fantastic. But the battle for that seat has been won and other battles for other seats will be under way. Lets just let him be Senator. He would not be my Presidential choice.
Lest we forget Mr. Arnold from California. Trent Lott actually said he could consider amending the constitution so Arnold could run for President. The Terminator seemed pretty attractive back then. We see where things are now.

For all the Obamamania reported during the campaign, Obama won by only 7%. Don’t misunderstand, that’s a significant win, and electorally, which is what matters, he dominated, but I’ve p\often wondered if the mania concept was stroked by the media to appear bigger than it was.
Yeah, the answer’s in the question, I know.

Thank you. For the first time in almost 2 years, I feel hopefull. This is our time to shine, this is our opportunity to be able tell our grandchildren when they learn about this in school (yep we’re gonna change that too) how we marched arm in arm with other proud Americans to have our voices heard. We will be able to tell our grandchildren with our heads held high how WE THE PEOPLE reminded Washinting DC they work for us and we will not allow our country to just be given away. I am so proud of those of us who helped to make last night happen and I ask them to continue to walk with me, arm in arm, to give our future generations to opportunity to live their lives better than we have lived ours.

Maybe I’m just caught up in the moment of a sweet victory for liberty and freedom, but when he was giving his acceptance speech it wowed me how well he was connecting on such a personal level with the people. I said to myself that this man is raw presidential material. Then I saw Mitt Romney come out…holy mackeral. It all began to make perfect sense. I am looking forward to 2012 now more than ever.

You’ll find it with the Secretary of State, Massachusetts. You could call the Brown campaign and ask him yourself.
OTOH that’s funny. Funny that the dhimmicrap controlled state actually allowed a Republican and legal citizen to file for office.

Thank you Massachusetts. Thank you Senator Brown.
You may have just brought our nation back from an unthinkable precipice — caught between Marxist statism or another war between the states.
Oh, and as for Barry, Nancy, Harry, John F’n, KO, Chris Tingles, Maddow, Shuster, NYT, CNN, MSNBC, et. al
It’s Tea PARTY.

ncc770 on January 20, 2010 at 8:26 AM
Unfortunately, the dems aren’t hearing a thing but the sound of their own voices. Between Juan mcwhateverhisnameis, along with some former SF mayor last night….and idiotic Ed Rendell this morning, all are saying the dems need to play hardball and shove the bill through, that this vote doesn’t mean anything and that the republicans have offered no alternative health plan. WTF???!
Regardless, hooray Hottie Scottie Brown! If you need a body guard on your way to DC, I’m available. ;)
atlgal on January 20, 2010 at 8:31 AM
Being here in Texas, I cannot honestly say I have a pulse on what attracts the independents in Massachusetts. Reasonable analysis however, seems quite obvious what they will no longer tolerate voting for in the near future. A 31% (from state totals) swing from only a year ago with a person who advocates the very same positions and shares the same Party as the White House and both Congressional leaders.
If that political spanking can be properly defined on philosophical grounds, it is that of a direct repudiation of a tyrannical agenda and a push again for a more liberty based one. It is only that conclusion which offers the fewest assumptions. So the nutshell is as follows:
Liberty vs tyranny
One of the above has been a unique fabric in the American culture. All other subsequent ‘cultural issues’ derive from this. Once this sinks in, it then only be argued that the very essence of culture was on the ballot.

Well, there is hope after all, though it is still just a glimmer to me. I pray those Cistercian Nuns can have some influence on that conscience he answers to and help it become a bit more well formed. I suppose he’s quite an improvement for Massachusetts, but I wouldn’t want him here in Tennessee. Not yet, anyway. Come on, Scott. You’re a smart guy. The reason it’s wrong late term is the same reason it’s wrong early.
I thought the even bigger miracle of the night was Chris Matthews flabbergasting Rachel Maddow by arguing that it was all the spending in Washington and worry over the debt that drove the voters to Brown. She’s arguing that it is just the people being fickle and it always happens when one party has the majority for a couple years. She looked like Hell had just frozen over when Matthews argued. They were actually arguing. Priceless…. Maybe Matthews’ daughter is not an idiot like him and is teaching her old man a thing or two.
Hope springs eternal…
