Politico: House Dems already starting to run from ObamaCare
posted at 10:28 pm on January 19, 2010 by Allahpundit
Democratic leaders and the White House insisted ahead of the vote they aren’t preparing to desert health care. They admit they’ll have to come up with a new strategy to win passage, but said they didn’t want to allow one Senate race to take them off-course on the president’s top legislative item for the year.
But several House members said Tuesday night that they had no interest in pursuing the most likely scenario for moving ahead with a bill — approving the already-passed Senate version of health reform in the House – and some said President Barack Obama should step back and start over.
In fact, early signs of split emerged as the polls closed in Massachusetts – between leaders like Majority Leader Steny Hoyer who said “the Senate bill is better than nothing,” and individual members who didn’t want to swallow the Senate’s version of health reform whole…
“If it comes down to that Senate bill or nothing, I think we are going to end with nothing because I don’t hear a lot of support on our side for that bill,” said Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.)
Remember, Lieberman and Bayh all but warned Obama earlier today to back off. About an hour ago, just as news of Brown’s victory broke, Jim Webb chimed in: “[I]t would only be fair and prudent that we suspend further votes on health care legislation until Senator-elect Brown is seated.” That wouldn’t solve the ping pong problem, but the more Senate centrists there are speaking out against the bill, the softer the House Blue Dog coalition will get. Every last member of the 60-vote coalition needs to be asked if they’d be willing to vote for Reid’s bill again in light of what happened in Massachusetts. I’d be awfully curious to see how close you get to 60 again. Or 50, for that matter.
Supposedly Jon Karl of ABC is being told by Dems that they don’t know what they’re going to do now. Exit question: What do Blue Dogs stand to gain by still voting yes? A promise from Obama that he’ll campaign for them? How did that work out in Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts?
Update: If you’re wondering why you can’t comment, we’ve had to disable that feature for awhile due to the massive traffic load. If we turn it back on, the site goes down. Please be patient…

Is anyone surprised, really? Even if Brown didn’t triumph it looked increasingly likely that the Democrats would run screaming from ObamaCare to try to save themselves. Now that Brown HAS won that run will turn into a mass rout.
This brings something important I have been mulling about since it became clear that Brown was going to win: The Democrats now know, thanks to a consistent pattern of elections, that they can not depend on the President to save them in November. From this point on I think things just got a lot less predictable in what the Dems will do. Though we can count on them to try to save their collective posterior as much as possible.

I said in August – that Obama should abandon the effort on health care reform because this thing was just going to keep running down the track, gaining speed, and ending up in a stupendous train wreck that would be a catastrophe for his Presidency.
Now … who’s to blame for where he’s at now?
Sleep in the bed you made ZerObama.

…Pundits are also pointing out the fact that Brown’s win came with ZERO on the ground support from Palin.
This is supposed to be some kind of rebuke of her.
Instead of strawman arguments about Palin…..
……liberals need to look at Mr. Hope and Change’s record right now:
Jetting overseas to get the Olympics….Failure
Stumping for Corzine in New Jersey…..Failure
Stumping for the democratic Gov. in Virginia…..Failure
Stumping for Coakley……Failure
Jetting over to Copenhagen to secure Global Warming legislation with the UN and other participating countries……Failure
Ahhhh….
………last time I looked…….
…………..Obama was the President of the US that was so “smart” and “charismatic” that he was going to change the world.
…..the reality is that he apparently can’t sell beer at a frat party.
……But you super smart libs keep worrying about Palin while your super majorities and “Hope and Change” come crashing around you in one of the most inept and pathetic wastes of power ever committed by a political party in our History.

If Juan Williams is correct, the Democrats have evidently decided that it is more important to make history than to govern responsibly. I don’t know how any sane politician can make the claim that losing in the most liberal state in America somehow gives them a free pass to do anything they want before the piper has to be paid.
Then again, we’re not dealing with sane or pragmatic politicians so much as holy warriors fighting for a cause, no matter how much the rest of the country doesn’t want it.

I expected this outcome. Since the Senate has been stalled and they will have to seat Brown soon. A conference is out for Obamacare.
Gaming the Obama/ Pelosi response Obama will double down and so will Pelosi. The have to do the Sudden Victory or start over and that is not possible in an election year.
So the Blue Dogs will scamper. It is the leftists that will be pressured. The leftists will fold but I don’t believe enough to make up for the BlueDogs or Stupac’s 10-12.
This prediction is based on Obama behavior patterns and Pelosi stubborness. They will revert to Chicago pressure tactics. Pelosi will have to use her blackmail info to force it down the leftists throats.
It will FAIL.

huskerdiva on January 19, 2010 at 11:30 PM
Yeah.
1. A shout out for Brown in her first Hannity appearance, a about 1 week before the election, with Palin dreaming of interview with a certain Senator Brown.
2. Tea Party people are the people behind Brown while no one was taking him seriously. This is the reason why Romney was keeping his distance from Brown.
3. Palin was used by the Dems to demonize Brown.
The real thing is this:
Palin is no longer the TOXIC one. Obamacare/RomneyCare coined into one, plus OBAMA himself, were the TOXIC WASTES that fueled Brown’s success in MA.
Romney is only beautiful to die-hard Republicans in MA. Romney is TOXIC to MA Independents (60% of MA voters.) That doesn’t mean Independents in MA will actually vote for Palin.
Instead of alibis, Romney has to publicly announce his “regret” on that cr*ppy MA legislation and move forward. That’s the key to Romney’s resurgence to the Indies and Tea Party people.
Finally, let’s admit it. Since 2008:
ALL INCUMBENTS ARE TOXIC TO VOTERS AND INDEPENDENTS. THE PEOPLE REALLY BELIEVE THAT THESE INCUMBENTS AND EXISTING POLITICIANS ARE THE MAIN CAUSE OF THEIR MISERY.
Obama should have realized that’s the main reason why the Independents went for him in 2008. They thought OBAMA WAS NEW (despite his lack of credentials). After one year, the people saw that Obama’s hope and change were nothing but political rhetoric. He did everything except showing the mantle of “REAL” change.
We’ll see who take the mantle of Hope and Change in 2012. Whosoever than candidate is, he or she will be the WINNER.
