Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on January 19, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Scott Brown has campaigned hard in Massachusetts by driving across the state repeatedly, meeting the voters and telling his story. He put over 200,000 miles on his truck, which he featured in an ad as a way of showing that he listened to the people he wants to represent. For some reason, this got under Barack Obama’s skin during his appearance on behalf of Martha Coakley on Sunday, as Jim Hoft notes at Gateway Pundit:

Forget the ads. Everybody can run slick ads. Forget the truck. [Laughter] Everybody can buy a truck.

Well, I know over 3.4 million people since Obama’s inauguration who can’t buy a truck any longer, or much of anything else. I’d bet many of them don’t find it a source of laughter, either. Scott Brown teed off on Obama on that same point yesterday:

Brown took that opportunity to slam the president on government spending..

“Mr. President, unfortunately in this economy, not everybody can buy a truck,” Brown said in a statement. “My goal is to change that by cutting spending, lowering taxes and letting people keep more of their own money.”

But the bigger Obamateurism comes from Obama’s dismissive attitude about the truck itself. Brown drives a GMC Canyon, made by General Motors — the very company Barack Obama bought on behalf of taxpayers in his bailout. Shouldn’t we expect some salesmanship from the guy who sunk our money into a losing enterprise like GM and transformed it into Government Motors?

Maybe Brown can explain that to Obama personally … when he takes Paul Kirk’s place in the Senate after today’s election.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Maobama has to be the most callous, detached and clueless CIC this country has had since Jimmah Carter. What a doofus – “Anyone can buy a truck”. A lot of people in my family can’t because they are laid off or are terrified to spend money because they are unsure if they will have a job at the end of each quarter.

I am all for regime change.

The best selling vehicle in America over the past decade has been a pick-up truck–Ford’s F-150–so many Americans can certainly identify with Mr. Scott. Maybe Odamna’s is confused because Scott Brown doesn’t have a driver like the rest of the superior ruling class./snark

Obama reveals how foreign he is everytime he mangles another idiomatic expression. He wants to say “Anyone can buy a truck”, not “Everyone can buy a truck”. By using the right phrase, he says what he means and prevents this counterattack.

Not that being foreign is a disqualification, as long as he meets the Constitutional definition of “Native Born”, but it does explain how he can so fundamentally misjudge the electorate so consistently. He doesn’t understand us because he is not one of us.
