Video: David Shuster wonders whether Massachusetts voters have lost their minds

posted at 2:40 pm on January 18, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Because nothing says “objective journalism” like the assumption that supporting a Republican is a symptom of mental illness, via Newsbusters:

Maybe they’ve just recovered their wits, Mr. Shuster. Perhaps Massachusetts voters don’t want to have their choices dictated by the Kennedys, Barack Obama, Washington DC, and media outlets with axes to grind such as yours. That’s the sign of a healthy mind. The signs of an unhealthy mind? Dismissing the upsurge in anger among American voters in reaction to the radical Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda with giggly middle-school references to oral sex, and then getting shocked to discover that the only people you’re fooling is yourselves.

In any case, MS-NBC should really change their logo at the top to read “The Place for Democratic Party Politics.”

Victory can be won in many ways.

I’m a Con living in the most liberal part of Buffalo: the Allentown district.

I meet all kinds of people, most of whom are liberal for one reason or other, and get to enjoy an occasional conversation. It takes time, and I don’t always manage a new persuasion, but I find being one-on-one with another Citizen works well.

Gays, blacks, and everyone else likes the same thing we do: Being left alone and accumulate wealth where we can.

My last line is to remind Dems oppose that.

Victory can be won in many ways

All with, in my view, better ideas.

We’re not going to win by attacking Obama. We’re going to win by attacking him and his ideology. We do that by offering a better set of ideas.

If we beat Obama, a thousand other Obamas will follow. If we defeat Obama’s ideas, he will be defeated and all of those other Obamas will be defeated as well.

Our opponent is the ideology of Obama and not Obama.

The reason the left smears us and their opponents is because they can’t win on the battlefield of ideas. If we get in a smearing contest with the left, the idea battle is lost and they win since they’re better at smearing (they have the press to facilitate it).

For those that want to call me a “concern troll”, so be it. All of my concern is defeating the left. If we don’t, this country is lost.

Let’s now focus on getting the voters to the booth. The last 24 hours, money will do nothing, it is in the hands of the voters.
Have at it Mass. show us that you are independent and want to dictate your own political future.

right2bright on January 18, 2010 at 3:05 PM

No, Brown can use the additional funds to lawyer up and staff up in every potentially problematic precinct tomorrow and for the likely legal challenges or efforts to delay his certification.

I expect we’re going to see an attempt to Franken him, even if he wins the raw vote tomorrow (as Coleman did in that race).

Otherwise I agree completely with your sentiments.

Dear Mr. Shuster, we remind you that words mean things:
1. “Yes We Can”
2. “Change” versus “More of the Same”
3. “Vote for Change”
4. “Change We Can Believe In”
5. “Our Time for Change”
6. “It’s about Time. It’s about Change”
7. “Stand for Change”
8. “Organize for Change”
9. “We are the change we’ve been looking for.
10.”Change in America doesn’t start from the top down. It starts from the bottom up.”

Sincerely,
The People

That should be good for another 2 points added to Brown’s polling numbers.

The Ugly American on January 18, 2010 at 3:43 PM

You know it’s bad for Coakly when the voters haven’t even gone to the polls yet and the media is calling the people of Mass. angry, grumpy, and they are wondering if they have lost their minds.

They always say the people have a temper or a tantrum when all we do is simply vote our conscious, yet they are the ones who are literally having the tantrums by yelling and wondering if people have lost their minds because they don’t fall in line.

I agree…. That is why I get tired of stupid questions like how are the Republicans going to reach out to ______ voters? (Insert race, sexual persuasion, religion, etc.)

I have known gays that voted for Bush until he tried to change the constitution on marriage. They liked Bush economic policies. I’ve knwon blacks that will agree with me on most issues, until I say I’m conservative or I usually vote Republican. We need Reps who will run on one word… FREEDOM. Freedom to earn what you want, live how you want, drive what you want, buy what you want, eat what you want, etc. And that the govt should stay as far out of our lives as possible.

And then exlplain to anyone who is against gun ownership, that they have the freedom not to buy one if they don’t want to.

People with better ideas win. Like Brown and McDonnell.

And Reagan.

There’s no need to attack Obama just because the left did it to Bush. It just doesn’t work. History shows that.

The left’s ideas are harmful and dangerous. Just show how they are to the public and we’ll win.

Those who want to attack Obama are welcome to it. I’ve never said they can’t or attacked them as “trolls”.

I just said it won’t work.

Is that how Brown is winning? Or how McDonnell won?

Everyone here is congratulating Brown but ignoring how he campaigned.

People here are talking about how we should defeat the left in elections. Not just bloviating on a blog.

They’re advocating tactics and not just posting at a blog.

I think those tactics won’t work. I think Brown’s tactics and McDonnell’s tactics will work.

Believing in promoting ideas is not being wishy-washy. Calling your opponent names or attacking them simply doesn’t work.

Brown knows it. McDonnell knows it. That’s why they’re winning.

TheAlamos on January 18, 2010 at 4:22 PM

This is amazing. Some posters here are telling me to be quiet, to go away, and I’m the one trying to silence the discussion.

I haven’t told a single person to be quiet. Anyone can state whatever they want pending approval by AP or Ed.

I have told people what I think will or won’t work in a campaign. And the topic here is how to defeat the left in elections.

Because if we don’t defeat these nuts, this country is forever changed and I don’t think 4 or 8 years from now we can fix it. As Neal Boortz said, this is for all the marbles. If we don’t stop this now, we won’t ever stop it.

SteveMG on January 18, 2010 at 4:24 PM

your missing the point. it’s many registered Democrats that are voting for Brown. That is what they are foaming at the mouth about. So, these idiots are smearing their own party. I know, I was a registered Dem for 25 years-voted Republican last year and changed to an indepndant. I, along with my Dem friends are Tea party protesters. Pelosi, Reid and their fellow asshats are whatfinally turned me from being a Dem to voting Repub. and changing my voter affiliation.

What’s the best way to turn a blue state red?
What’s the best way to turn a registered Democrat into voting Republican?

For Elected Dems and their toadies in the media to smear, insult and froath at the mouth about the people that belong to their own party but differ on who to vote for–Keep at it lefties, your bleeding your own party of voters. The sane, normal people that are Democrats, not the whack jobs that are liberals and lefties
