Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?

posted at 9:00 am on January 17, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

It’s time once again to cast your vote in the weekly poll to select the OOTW, and to wonder once again how many times our VP’s boss is gonna say something stupid.  Maybe Obama keeps giving us material in order to claim this as one job saved or created.  Some might say that we didn’t know the scope of amateurishness that was on our doorstop on Inauguration Day, but we warned about it for two years.  And we’re not going to shrug it off now.

Previous 2010 “winners”:

  • Obama rushes home for minor injury to family friend, keeps golfing after EunuchBomber attack

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Don’t give them any ideas. Being a “racist” is the one glob of mud I haven’t heard they’ve slung at Brown. Yet.

ncborn on January 17, 2010 at 9:16 AM

Yet.

ncborn on January 17, 2010 at 9:16 AM

After the Reid debacle one has to think the word racist is just about completely devoid of real meaning. So go ahead Dems sling away.

CWforFreedom on January 17, 2010 at 9:19 AM

I thought it was terrible how he preceded his remarks about the Haitian earthquake with “shout outs”. What? He didn’t? Sorry, I thought that was standard for somber tragedies. In that case I’ll go with not knowing the scope of the economic problems. It’s like a fireman saying, “I don’t know what’s wrong, Chief. We keep pouring gasoline on the fire but it’s not going out.” Here’s something every politician should know: Marxism is bad.

Why stop at Haitians? I fully expect O and Mrs. O to be holding severely injured Haitian children in their arms while making an appeal to the American people to allow those who are most in need to come to America. Then I expect Nancypants and Crazy Harry to write a bill in which the language is completely generic. Presto Chango instant amnesty for all ilegal aliens.

The liberals always need a new crop of naive immigrants to trick and bribe into voting for them. They keep losing the votes of the hard-working successful ones as they become successful and wise up to the “tax-and-spend” nonsense. (Though lately, it’s been “spend-and-fee”.)

I give to the Christian Applachian Project or similar charities. This Haiti obsession in the media right now reminds me of the meme the pop culture has been selling for the last 60 years or so.

BTW, two eggheads I know played with numbers to estimate what it is costing every urban, college educated white male to support fairness with minorities (favortism), foreigners and all the rest of the Dem agenda.

The over and under was $350,000 over the course of a lifetime.

One of the them put it on a lib thread and had the Justice Department contacted on him.

Officer, they ain’t my numbers!

Accepting Ried’s appology, number 1. Reason? It shows what Obama is, a puppet child.
Obama comes out and apologies for something that the NAACP and Jackson said was a non-issue, nothing offensive here.
Obama did the same thing when the Senate passed their version of ObamaCare just before Christmas. He was congratulating a job well done and then the House Democrats come out and slap Obama up side the head as to say “This is not what we want! Shut up, Obama and sit down. We will call you when we you” or something like that.

On the Reid flap

In case you haven’t heard, the Reid comments were harmless. Just ask the New York Times. Apparently Eugene Robinson wasn’t offended.

The GOP is a real loser with blacks because of Strom and the macaca comment. They have lost all the blacks. Apparently with racism or insensitivity or something. (They also can’t do anything about Steele). Couldn’t have anything to do with economic handouts and boot licking from the Dems.

In an article (editorial) that would do proud to any junior high paper for its incisive logic and evenhandness, all this was explained with a confusing title about the tea party soaking the tea partiers. See:

I don’t think that the Biden comment should be considered an Obamateurism. It’s the only thing Obowmao’s said recently that’s actually grounded in reality. We love Biden’s foot-in-mouth syndrome, but it’s got to be rough on the libs.

rmgraha on January 17, 2010 at 10:02 AM

Wow, this is a tough one. All are viable losing, er, winning sayings. I went with this:

Obama claims he didn’t know scope of job losses when he took office

That’s just a flat out lie (as the jobs created/saved schtick) or he really is an idiot. Can we see his transcripts now?

conservative pilgrim on January 17, 2010 at 10:08 AM

Obama claims he didn’t know scope of job losses when he took office

I had to go with this one, the other choices were due to ego, political expediency, or pure stupidity. He had his advisor’s in the Whitehouse for two months before he took office, he said he would “Hit the ground running”. To once again blame his predecessor for his own lack of seeing what every American knew, is pure amateurism.

We knew how bad it was out there, how is it that the smart power of the Obamites was caught with their heads up their collective asses. What is amazing is that after a year of OJT, he is still unfit for office, and still is making the same stupid mistakes.

Perhaps the College Transcripts he has spent a million dollars hiding, would shed light on his miserable performance.

rmgraha on January 17, 2010 at 10:02 AM

Maybe I don’t know what an Obomateurism is. The way I see it is Obama in his younger years sought for an identity. He found the Trinity Church and then aligned himself to that theology. Accepting an apology for Ried’s comments that he said back in 2008 and then having these groups that represent the black community come out and say nothing to apologize for shows that Obama still doesn’t know his black side.

Electrongod on January 17, 2010 at 10:14 AM

Let me be clear: I expect the Lott-Reid two-face will take the prize.
And there are those who say that the unemployment farces – “didn’t know” and fantasy accounting – demonstrate behaviors that would lead to indictments if practiced in a private enterprise whose goal was to boost employment. And being Obama just dissing O’Biden petulent and rude, but nothing new

Let me be clear: I have to go with being “at the doorstop” (and “on the precipice”) of passing ObamaCare. His sycophants swear to us that he’s intelligent, educated and articulate. Yet when speaking solo – without TOTUS and off-the-cuff – his malapropisms demonstrate that he’s none of the above. An amateur, in other words.

Geochelone on January 17, 2010 at 10:26 AM

This is so good! It’s hard to know what is really amateurism and what is political machination when evaluating Obamao’s actions and words.
.
I vacillated between “doorstop” and “jobs accounting” plus considering Biden’s stupid, uncontrollable mouth and finally went with “jobs accounting.” This president should realize, at some point, that Lincoln’s famous attribution of “You can fool some of the people …” applies just as much to the Obamao administration.

ExpressoBold on January 17, 2010 at 10:32 AM

I voted for the Biden quote. I thought Biden’s response was too funny to pass up. I know it might not be the most important screw up but sometimes I just like to laugh at these fools.

sammypants on January 17, 2010 at 10:32 AM

A tough choice (as always) but I went with the “created or saved” accounting sleight of hand. Even this Administration’s lapdogs in the MSM were getting squeamish about that pile of manure.

cruadin on January 17, 2010 at 10:33 AM

Ob-amateurism. I see now. I retract my previous comments about the Reid thing. that clearly wasn’t amateurism but just plain stupid. Must re-think.

Electrongod on January 17, 2010 at 10:37 AM

Accepting Reids’ apology served up Obamas’ hypocrisy in a giant sized helping.

In Reids’ case, it seemed more like a forgiveness of sins and a blessing from the Pope of Washington. “Go forth and pass health care Harry, you’ve been absolved of your sin”.

Couldn’t have one of the leaders of the health care bill under a cloud of guilt could we? Changing (destroying) America is too important to let anything like a little racist remark get in the way.

donh525 on January 17, 2010 at 11:00 AM

OK. I re-thunk’ this and I still conclude Obama accepting an apology from Ried is very amateurish.
All through the years no one would have question Obama as not being black, well half black. He looks it so he must be. He was touted as being our first black President. He must represent the black community. He must be a professional about his own heritage. Was there any question?
Accepting Reid’s apology when the black community claimed there was no need for an apology only shows Obama’s lack of knowledge of the community he represents and also himself.
You might as well have gotten a heavily tanned white guy and put him in a suit. You would have got the same results.

Electrongod on January 17, 2010 at 11:00 AM

Huh, maybe Obama is a heavily tanned white guy. This has all the signs of an SNL skit.

Electrongod on January 17, 2010 at 11:15 AM

Ed – hilarious write up. I voted doorstop, because I think the others go way past amateurism, to some serious mendacity.

Philly on January 17, 2010 at 12:06 PM

My vote was for “…didn’t know the scope of job loss”. This man didn’t have a plan in place before he took office. He had words, just words….and blame, just blame.

mtb on January 17, 2010 at 12:10 PM

It’s terrifying that he still has as much blind support as polls show. Tough to pick (again).
The remark about Biden is revealing, but not so much a gaffe. The gaffe was that he spoke like that in an environment where it could be reported.
The hypocrisy about Reid’s statement is just an indicator that he knows his earlier remarks about Trent Lott expired and therefore can’t be discussed or compared.
The doorstop is just an example of striving for soaring oratory and being totally ignorant.
I picked the feigned ignorance of the scope of the economy. The arrogance this shows that he knows so many of his supporters will accept it unquestioningly. It is just a repackaging of the “Bush’s Fault” meme. Supporters of The One will swallow it whole. They won’t consider his (temporary) term in the Senate and his campaign promises based upon knowing the problem and the solution.

Tom_OC on January 17, 2010 at 12:21 PM

What wasn’t an Obamateurism?

I’ll give him credit for giving a State Dinner to India (always good to have another billion people on your side). Then there is, ah, um, er, well I’m sure there’s something, right?

rbj on January 17, 2010 at 2:15 PM

Our local newspaper actually had the gall to use Obama’s “doorstop” quote in their Sunday paper “quotable quotes” section, except they did not even correctly quote him. They changed his misspoken quote of “doorstop” to “doorstep”. Idiot media! We know they won’t report Obama’s gaffes, but gee wiz, quoting him after correcting his mistakes for him? I can just hear the editors of the paper now, “oh, Obama is so smart, we know what he meant”. Had that been George W Bush, they would have put in the actual quote and gone on for days about how stupid he was.

Susanboo on January 17, 2010 at 4:35 PM

Accepting Harry Reid’s apology after demanding Republicans “drive out Trent Lott” in 2002

A real leader would stand against Harry Reid’s racist remarks, but most troubling to me was that Obama responded to Reid’s remarks in a matter of hours, yet waited THREE days before responding to the Christmas Day underwear bomber, nearly eleven days before speaking against the Iran government for slaughtering protestors. btw, did Obama even address the nation of the terrorist attack on the Army Recruitment in Arkansas??

Party before Country.
