Video: Obama, Bush, Clinton unite for Haiti

posted at 3:26 pm on January 16, 2010 by Allahpundit

A bittersweet moment, as Dubya gets a chance to erase the Bushitler caricature under the very worst of circumstances. Skip ahead to 5:25 to hear him speak. I’m intrigued that The One asked him to help lead the initiative instead of Clinton’s usual partner, Bush 41. Is the latter too old now for projects like this? Is Obama simply following Bush’s own protocol by asking the last Democratic and Republican presidents to collaborate? Or is this aimed at turning down the heat that The One’s taken for his all-purpose Bush-blaming? Whatever the answer, the public rehabilitation continues tomorrow: Bush and Clinton will hit five different Sunday morning chat shows to push the new Haiti relief fund. Here’s the webpage.

A question for the comments: Do you guys prefer any particular charities to others? I went with Doctors Without Borders because of the medical crisis and the Salvation Army because I’m told they have a strong presence in Haiti, but I wonder if there are even better options.

I donated to World Vision. I tried to donate to Salvation Army but their website was down – possibly high traffic. My concern in this disaster is the outcome. It has been 5 days, people all over the world have donated millions of dollars and yet people are still without basic services. News reporters can get to areas where people are living in tents without water or food, why can’t they get food and water to them??? How can the news reporters be there yet doctors can’t get in there – at least to triage and begin treatment? It has been 5 days and I don’t care how nice the editorial Bush and Clinton write or the lovely photo ops, it is not getting done what needs to be done. This is a disgrace! It is making Katrina look good.

Clinton was praising Bush one day and trashing him the next while on the stump for Croakley. Wish Bush would slap the guy next time he sees him.

Despite W’s flaws, he is a very classy man.

I assume someone has probably mentioned this one, but Nazarene Compassionate Ministries is a really good one. All money raised goes toward the need, none goes to staff salary. I have had the chance to work with NCM projects and this org. can’t be beat.

I’m not surprised that GWB answered The ONE’s phone call, but I damn sure would have put him on hold.
The only charity I give to is the USO, and I’ll bet THEY are in Haiti right now too!

All the charities are doing outstanding work. I went with Plant With Purpose. They already had staff in and around Haiti before and during the quake, and have for quite some time. Their staff was all accounted for afterward during several hours of fingernail biting, but one staff member did lose his wife and 10-day old child to the quake.

For any SoCal/San Diego natives, they’re a great charity to look into.

(Full disclosure, I helped build their website, but do not profit from any of your possible support of them).

Bush and Clinton working while Bambi in Mass campaigning.

Bush needs to ask Bambi for that Nobel prize money he said he was giving to charity. Let me be clear, I believe Bambi needs some skin in the game

Hosean International Ministries

The Fox news website had an article on them and I also have personally met the man who runs the organization. They are Haitians (although his wife is from the states) who have made an incredible amount of difference in the lives of hundreds of people. You can read the article at-

Considering the work the Bush Administration did to save
lives in Africa from the AIDS epidemic, Obama couldn’t
have chosen a better man for the job.
