White House plan for ObamaCare if Brown wins: “I don’t think Scott Brown is going to win”
posted at 4:09 pm on January 15, 2010 by Allahpundit
Any spin doctor worth his salt would say the same but there’s a good reason why he doesn’t want to answer this question. Even if they’re willing to try to force the bill through Congress before Brown can replace Kirk, the force of the blast from Massachusetts will likely send Blue Dogs — including/especially our pal Bribetaking Ben — diving for cover, shattering the Democratic coalition behind the bill and leaving the White House powerless to rebuild it. There’s no plan because no plan will work. If Coakley loses even after The One hits the stump for her, what exactly is Obama supposed to say or do to convince Nelson or Lincoln that voting yes is still in their best interest? Have Rahm call them up and curse at them until they submit? Kaus looks ahead to the post-apocalyptic CYA:
I suppose, if the Congressional id is screaming for a way not to pass health care, the most obvious way that’s left would seem to be this: a Senator bails (Nelson, most obviously) or if Coakley is defeated they just can’t pass the bill before Brown takes her place. (Darn!) So the bill can’t go back to the Senate–any House-Senate compromise is doomed by the lack of a 60th vote. The only hope becomes getting the House to pass the already-approved Senate bill word-for-word (the Sudden Victory strategy). But just enough House liberals declare they can’t stomach the Senate bill–on the grounds that the uncompromised Cadillac tax is unacceptable, perhaps, or the subsidies are too low, or that a public option is essential. Presto, a train wreck. Everyone gets to go home and claim they were fighting the good fight.
So lethally demoralizing to Democrats nationwide would a Brown upset be that Republican candidates from as far afield as New York, Texas, and Florida are directing donors and volunteers to help his campaign. “If Democrats aren’t safe here, they aren’t safe anywhere,” says Alex Castellanos, summing it up. That said, the Suffolk poll plus the nonstop jamboree of idiotic Coakley campaign gaffes seem to have convinced righties that victory, however narrow, is practically a fait accompli. Is it? According to Bill Kristol’s sources, last night’s tracking polls show that the relentless attacks are, as expected, nibbling at Brown’s support, and with The One on his way up there Democratic turnout is likely to be a bit higher than otherwise. Not much, perhaps, but then it won’t take much to decide this. AP pessimism meter check: 2.0, up a point from last night, indicating mounting concern and increased chances of heart-ache. MA Ballot:
Hannibal Lecter (D)
George Washington (R)
Lecter would still be the favorite… Coakley’s gaffes don’t erase the “D” next to her name… a Brown win is unlikely… but would be phe-nom-e-nal.

For once I agree with Osama Obama’s sock puppet.
The odds are on the side of totalitarianism and Constitution-shredding right now, and for Massachusetts to go for even a moderate Republican doesn’t seem in the cards.
Not that I wouldn’t want to see it happen. It’d be a great momentum-builder for a decent future.
But those who thirst for the political neutering of the Chicago Jesus are going to have to work harder, and in regions where the chances of victory are stronger.

I have a bad feeling about this. Yesterday and last night I was psyched, but for some reason, I’m starting to think The One, SEIU, ACORN, and Unions will have just enough to eeek out a win for Coakley… but Nelson and Lincoln still may flip anyway. Either way, Tuesday night will require stiff adult beverages.
davek70 on January 15, 2010 at 4:18 PM
I’m still thinking that Brown will lose, but this is a disaster for the Democrats either way. Obama must spend what little is left of his political capital to shore up what should have been a slam-dunk. Even if Coakley wins, it could be enough to help kill Obamacare, and all of that political capital gets spent with nothing gained in return.
If Brown wins, the disaster will be a lot more… photogenic.

With so much on the line, Acorn will be raising the dead and stuffing ballot boxes even more than usual this time, with a Democrat SOS that will support all the wrongdoing possible all along the way. Plus the ultra-blue MA judiciary will do all they can to rule against any action that would make things right or fair, so this is not going to be easy even if Brown actually wins.
Remember in the bluest of the blue states, a win isn’t a win until it’s DECLARED a win. Remember Norm Coleman…

Obama has to do this. To give up without even trying would be even worse.
But all he will do is to show the contrast between what and effective campaigner looks like and what Coakley looks like.
Coakley will no doubt be watching the Obama rally from a Washington hotel room having drinks with lobbyists.

No way. There are so many issues left open. Even with the union exemption, there are dozens of reps still against the Cadillac tax. Joe Courtney will vote against it if it exists at all and says he has 190 Democrats against it. I really doubt the alleged deal on Union exemptions flips all 190.
Plus abortion, plus the public option, plus the 5% on the rich the House wants back in that will fail in the Senate.
Plus Wexler retiring, Cao and Stupak flipping back and now Weiner and Courtney voting no- theyre at 215 to 219 assuming no other changes.
ANd I know there were some Dem nos that will flip back, but I dont think its all that many and Tuesday will just convince them to stay in the NO column, even if Brown loses.

The plan is to get anything to the President’s desk before Brown is sworn in…assuming he wins.
And Blue Dogs are yellow. They had a chance to save themselves before the vote…it’s far too late now and they know it. You’ll have to remove these guys from office in order to stop them…there is no ‘message’ short of personal defeat that will suffice.

Make sure your Acorn, SEIU and Whitehouse.gov accounts are up to date. You should be receiving your bus tickets to Massachusetts very soon. The MSM will want to fill any venue where Obama is speaking.

The fact that they have to send in Obama to seal up Massachusetts the Sunday before the election sends the message already. The question is if people care more about being re-elected or about getting cushy lobbyist jobs for decades to come. It’s obvious most would take the latter. Fortunately we don’t need most.
Can you imagine how utterly embarrassing it will be to Coakley to stand there in front of voters, with Obama standing next to her trying to drag her over the finish line?

To all those that say if brown loses, Obama is still hurt, I don’t think so.
If Coakley wins, Obama can go those spineless blue dog wimps (blue jello?) and say “My magnificence pulled one out of the fire. If you don’t toe the line I won’t let even a little of my glitter fall on you” and like the #$@%#$@% they are, they will fold. Barf. I just read a local MA paper’s endorsement of her. They literally had nothing to say positive about her except taht she has worked as a public servant for 24 years and that she (paraphrase) “hews most closely with Massachusetts values as a progressive or liberal.” Then they said they hope that Scott Brown runs for office again someday (obviously not being able to find anything bad to say about him and trying to look somewhat objective).

An AG that doesn’t prosecute voter intimidation or look into voter fraud even after they’ve won the case.
Democratic lawyers on retainer already has the paperwork to file a recount.
Numerous democratic operatives that don’t care one iota about the law, but will literary dig up voters.
Out of state SEIU and ACORN members bussed in to vote, and vote often.
An out of control democrat state government machine that will simply declare by an overwhelming number that Croaking Coakley is the winner and destroy the ballots and no further recount needed.
Protesters protesting the current Iranian backed Massachusetts regimen will simply be beat up, shot or quietly disappear into a shredder.

I have to agree with you, Allah…I don’t think it’s a “done deal” at all, the polling is just too close and you just know The Won has dispatched as many of his heavy-hitters as he can spare to help shore things up.
However, the fact that Democrats – in Massachusetts – are having to work this hard to keep a seat that has been “in the family” for years and years…well, it’s a lot of fun to watch. I clearly didn’t make my point. This is Massachusetts. The candidate stinks, but it shouldn’t matter. If George Bush had to go to Mississippi to help push a republican to a 51-49 victory it’s the same principle. There are certain states where the result is a foregone conclusion.
