Funny: Press corps torments Gibbs again with questions about transparency

posted at 6:50 pm on January 15, 2010 by Allahpundit

A palate cleanser courtesy of Media Blog. He’s right that they’ve been over this before and they’re right that he hasn’t given them a satisfactory explanation. With good reason. The only satisfactory answer — “my boss is a brazen liar who’ll promise dopey liberals anything to get elected” — isn’t available. So we end up with the political equivalent of a conversation from a dysfunctional marriage. Why do we have to talk past each other, baby?

The one silver lining for Democrats in the very gray ObamaCare cloud? This seems like such a minor issue now relative to the rest of it. They’re gaming cost estimates, they’re bribing senators, they’re ignoring virtually every poll in the country showing massive disapproval. Why not extend the middle finger on transparency too? Are people going to go from enraged to really enraged or something?

Blowback

this seems like such a minor issue now relative to the rest of it.

My feelings exactly. The press corp getting lazy, can’t think of anything else to fill the time? Don’t want to do the hard work digging out an original story?

Pure comedy to see!

I’ll submit that the Socialists, err, Democrats that are in charge are indeed being very tranparent..they are showing us how they want to govern and doing whatever they want in a very brazen, overt fashion. The fact that they aren’t trying to hide what they’re doing (e.g., their way of doing business; thier disdain for the average citizen; thier attempted subversion of the democratic process, etc) says volumes about who they are and what we can expect moving ahead….

To coin a phrase for them: ‘we won.’

I don’t think it’s that minor to the youthful Obama voter, which is why it comes up over and over and over. His pledge was edgy, it was high-tech, it was freely given, it set him apart from all the other suits. If I were President, I’d live-blog my Admin, too. And so they tweeted for Obama like awakening grackles. Now it turns out Obama’s not only NOT a compulsive geek, he’s a dick about it.

Its gotta burn.

HornetSting on January 15, 2010 at 7:11 PM

Gibbs continues to be a studied non-communicator, which indeed is the essence of his job in this “transparent” administration. But the significant thing here is that we are witnessing the beginnings of a revolt in the WH press corp. It’s at the simmering stage, still with a courteous veneer, but it easily could get raw if Obama continues his opacity.

paul1149 on January 15, 2010 at 7:13 PM

Obama is a horrible man. I get that. And I hate that loser Gibbs too. But… like all press spokesmen, he can only say what he is allowed to say, which is NADA on topics that would make Obama look bad (which at this point is pretty much everything).

Prediction, and you heard it first here: Obama will bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities in September or early October of this year, thus generating a “rally around the flag” momentum boost for the November election.

Not that it will help, and not that he shouldn’t bomb the a$$holes to smithereens. We’re still going to pickup 35 to 40 seats in the house.

d1carter on January 15, 2010 at 7:27 PM

I have to agree with the post about how we now have a precise view of what the Democrat leadership is all about.

The one benefit of Obama’s ascension is that all the other marxists have come out of the closet, they feel free now to fly their true flags and do what they have wanted to do for so long.

I am afraid of where they are trying to take us, and whether sanity can be restored, but it will be what it will be. God knows what will happen, but He ain’t telling.

I just pray the First Amendment is enough, that we can leave the Second dormant vis a vis the DC crowd.

IlikedAUH2O on January 15, 2010 at 7:37 PM

Gibbs knows he has taken a job with an organization that is the equivalence of the Chicago mob. He is fully aware, every waking moment, that he dare never utter one bit of truth, unless ordered to do so. If he goes the truth route he will not get fired: he will simply disappear.

Maybe each individual promise of an act of transparency is a minor issue. But at root is the question of whether or not we can trust anything Obama says. Then it becomes very important because as trust dies it becomes progressively more difficult for each voter to pull the lever for Obama or any Dem.

snaggletoothie on January 16, 2010 at 12:53 AM

‘We’ve been through this, refer to my answer of two weeks ago.’ – Robert Gibbs.
Hey, jerkwad, if the question keeps coming up, that’s because the answer isn’t good enough. So much for accountability.

They’re gaming cost estimates, they’re bribing senators, they’re ignoring virtually every poll in the country showing massive disapproval. Why not extend the middle finger on transparency too? Are people going to go from enraged to really enraged or something?

Why not? They think that Islamic terrorists will become less enraged and suicidal if only we would stop hunting them, bombing them, killing them, capturing them and putting them in Gitmo. Dems argue that these measures somehow create more and angrier terrorists even more determined than they were before to blow themselves up.
