Nebraskans so disgusted with Ben Nelson they can’t even eat around him
posted at 9:18 pm on January 14, 2010 by Allahpundit
If this guy was up for reelection in November instead of 2012, he’d already be preparing for a permanent vacation a la Dodd and Dorgan. As it is, he’ll limp along for two more long years — unless he finally crumbles and decides to be the 41st “no” vote after all. Or rather, the 42nd, if/when Scott Brown wins.
Tell me again about running on ObamaCare in the midterms, champ.
Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson and his wife were leaving dinner at a new pizza joint near their home in Omaha one night last week when a patron began complaining about Nelson’s decisive vote in favor of the Senate’s health care bill.
Other customers started booing. A woman yelled, “Get him the hell out of here!” And the Nelsons and their dining companions beat a hasty retreat.
“It was definitely a scene in there,” said Tom Lewis, a 41-year-old dentist and registered Republican who witnessed the incident. A second witness confirmed the incident to POLITICO…
“He’s kind of a man without a state,” said Julie Schmit-Albin, executive director of Nebraska Right to Life, an influential anti-abortion group that had endorsed Nelson’s previous election bids but has “pretty much cut [its] ties” with the senator over the abortion deal in the health care bill…
Asked about the incident at the pizza joint, Thompson said: “If somebody yelled that comment, Sen. Nelson didn’t hear it, and he did hear positive comments from others in the restaurant.”
This is no freshman Democrat. He’s on his second term as senator after having served two as governor — a popular pol, until this year. Now he trails by, um, 31 points in hypothetical match-ups with Nebraska’s current governor. Good work, Ben. Exit question: Assume Brown wins and that, as predicted, Democrats on the Hill and in Massachusetts move to delay seating him until they can pass ObamaCare. Does Nelson use that as an opportunity to switch his vote and derail the whole project? Don’t forget, he caved on DeMint’s anti-earmark resolution just before New Year’s in order to buy himself some political cover as a “good government” type. If the Dems decide to obstruct Brown, maybe Bribe-taking Ben decides that he simply can’t risk any further dirtiness and does the right thing.

Every Nebraskan should be ashamed of Nelson, and of themselves, for any benefit they receive from the 49 other States. Even the liberal democrat Nebraskans should be ashamed.
So much for that pioneering spirit! So much for those hardy outdoors types! Go hunt for some wild animals, clean your guns, and dress your deer, Nebraskans, because we all know the truth: You elected someone who would whore out his vote on a serious issue like abortion to buy a Government dictate forcing the rest of us to pay for your “free” insurance.
Nevermind the fact that he’s a rank amateur. Next time you send some fool pimp to Washington to bring back your pork, don’t send an idiot who gets played by the Administration. But it’s too late for regrets, isn’t it, Nelson, you pimp fool?!
Also nevermind the fact that the benefit he gained is 90% unconstitutional, and will certainly be struck down. So it was all for nothing, do you understand, Nebraska? All for nothing, so on top of your shame comes the degradation of knowing it was all for nothing.
You idiots.

Ben will do whatever it takes to secure Ben’s future. If Brown wins, Nelson won’t be the only one covering his political ass. Nancy and Harry will find out who their true friends are. I’m betting there won’t be a lot of them.

Too many Senators play this “I’m a doddering elderly gentleman/woman” thing when they’re captured in their preposterous mismanagements and misrepresentations such as has been Ben Nelson. “Didn’t know…” “never heard it…” “I thought everyone received the same…” are responses from people who prove they’re incompetent to hold public office.
That means, they should be fired. Immediately.
Lourdes on January 14, 2010 at 9:27 PM

Now its tin cup rattling time and the folks at home are wondering just what kind of self-serving fool this is. He can be rented, just not bought… he is too cheap to stay bought, and even the rentals come with the caveat that he will ask for more before you’re done with him. He can’t even stick to his agreed-upon price.

Not only will it be the cold, hard dose of reality these elitist scumbags are desperately in need of, but it’ll also make the rest of their lives a living hell and serve as a warning to any current or future politician who dares to even think about going down a similar path.

NebCon on January 14, 2010 at 9:48 PM
As written that’s a pretty ambiguous story. Were the customers yelling at the Nelsons or where they yelling at the patron complaining about the health care bill?
I think it would probably be the latter since the Nelsons were already leaving and there was no need for someone to get him “the hell out of here!”
Not that the patron complaining about Obamacare was not supported in his view by the other customers, I suspect that most people didn’t want to have their dinners interupted by politics and we’re telling him to shut up about it.
PackerBronco on January 14, 2010 at 9:48 PM

In my opinion, Nelson was nothing to brag about as Gov either. His stock answer to every issue was “I’ll look into it.”, and little or nothing was done.
The frosting on the cake was the permitting process for a low level waste repository to be located in Nebraska. After stringing this along for years the permit was turned down. It was admitted that the permit would have been denied no matter what was done. Nebraska was hit with a judgment for 150+ million for negotiating in bad faith. Ben didn’t pay the bill.

This Obamacrap is soooo toxic, penetrating to gain the attention of so many low information voters. It’ll be like cancelling the World Series in 1994. (Obama would try to sell THAT as somehow good for baseball.) People will remember.
The Dems are sunk possibly for a decade or two if Republicans will honor the wishes of the Tea Party folks and favor free and competitive markets over their big business buddies. It remains only for the Dems to recognize it and try to minimize the depth and length of their soon to be realized exile.
