Trouble in paradise? Morning meeting on ObamaCare turns into “intense” all-day session
posted at 9:23 pm on January 13, 2010 by Allahpundit
What does it take to light a fire under Cool Hand Luke’s ass? One too many polls like this, I guess.
What was expected to be a morning meeting with the president on health care turned into all-day, intense negotiations with Democratic leaders trying to find compromise on differences over House and Senate health care bills…
Senior congressional Democratic sources told CNN that the White House is pushing them hard to move quickly to resolve differences on a broad range of issues. The president and his top aides are being more aggressive than ever before in trying to broker a deal…
President Barack Obama has made clear he favors the Senate Democrats’ approach – taxing high cost insurance plans. That has caused an eruption inside unions who oppose that approach…
A House Democratic leadership aide conceded to CNN that the White House is pushing House Democrats to make a deal fast, saying “The speaker is also pushing for one, but won’t just accept the Senate deal,” he said, referring to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
I never believed that House Dems would have the stones to walk away, but suddenly there are a lot of flares going up. Rangel’s warning that the bill won’t be done this month; Emanuel Cleaver’s telling nutroots bloggers that this is no fait accompli; and Politico’s reporting mounting anger over the “Cadillac plan” tax. Quoth Anthony Weiner, “We keep hearing them squeal like pigs in the Senate that they had a tough time getting to 60. Well, it wasn’t particularly a picnic for us to get to 218…The Senate Kabuki dance has lost its magic on those of us in the House.” Follow the link to the Cleaver vid and read Jay Cost’s analysis of how thin the margin’s going to be this time in the House, especially with Scott Brown throwing the fear of god into red-district Dems. The exit question I never thought I’d ask: Does this Change mean it’s time to Hope?

Bozo is pushing because he sees the writing on the wall. All the dems see it clearly now and they are desperate.

Actually, that movie is quite appropriate. Imagine all of us standing outside the capitol shouting at Congress:
“What we have here, is a failure to communicate.”

I still think we need to be cautious of an end-run but this is the first week I see a glimmer that the GOP can turn back Obamacare at the brink of ruin. An all day session does not bode well for claims that the Dems have all the votes they can use.
Now is the time to be wary of midnight votes and the staffers skulking in the dark corners of the capitol practicing ping pong legislation.

Intense negotiations don’t mean it’s dead. Think of the negotiation going something like this:
Dem 1: I wan to control 100% of health care 2
Dem 2: 100, no way, most I will do is 98
Dem 1: 98, that is an outrage
Dem 2: 99 and that’s my final offer
Dem 1: Let me get back to my people with this
Point is they won’t abandon their wet dream of govt run health care of minor details.

America is dying under the Democrats’ watch and now they can’t agree on the quickest way to finish her off.

We taxpayers are already picking the tab for their cadillac pension plans, thanks to the way Obama finagled the automaker bailouts.

THIS IS WHY IT’S SO CRITICAL THAT WE KEEP GETTING THE MESSAGE OUT THERE AND FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!!!
There is no deal until there’s a deal. We need to support Scott Brown. We need to keep the pressure up. We need to keep driving the message that taxes and individual mandates really hurt people in Massachusetts (“Massachusettes”, excuse me!), and why on Earth would we want that for the entire country? And the House bill with the public option? Even more catastrophic.
And for the umpteenth time: why are abortions in the health care bill??? My pro life protestor friends tell me the average abortion is only $300. 99% of women can afford that out-of-pocket, so why does it need to be in the health care bill? Jeez oh peet, is there no liberal itch the Dems won’t scratch??

I think the Democrats are starting to realize that Obama will throw the whole party under the bus to get what he wants. The question is, are they more afraid of us than of Pelosi, Reid, and Obama?

They should have just gone for burgers with dijon mustard.

They will pass it because they don’t have anything to lose. After this past year nobody has confidence they can help the country and will most likely be booted out anyway.
And they hope that a success for them might be interpreted by State Run Media as a success for America. It would surely be spun that way. And it might lift them up in the polls accordingly. They are operating under the Clinton theory that it is worse to do nothing.
There is no hope – though I’d like to believe there was. Once it was past the filibuster in the Senate, we were done fighting.

Whats the problem? All they have to do is exempt unions from the tax on cadillac plans and everybody is happy….except for me
