Coakley associate to Weekly Standard: Hey, sorry about that shove
posted at 5:21 pm on January 13, 2010 by Allahpundit
Anatomy of a spin job gone bad. First, McCormack gets shoved — on video, with a photo showing Coakley standing right there. The Democrats’ Senate campaign arm then issues a statement calling it, surreally, some sort of Republican “dirty trick.” The AP duly answers the call of the home team by putting out a whitewashed account of what happened, insisting that McCormack merely stumbled before being helped to his feet by the kindly Democrat looming over him. Then it’s Coakley’s turn to insist that she’s “not privy to the facts” of what happened despite the photo showing her looking right at McCormack as he hit the ground.
Finally, inevitably, with all spin angles crushed by the documentary evidence, the obligatory apology is issued.
Last evening I was a little too aggressive in the confusion of trying to help the Attorney General get to her car and catch a flight.
I clearly did not intend to cause John McCormack to trip and fall over that low fence. As the video shows and he confirms in his blog, I stopped to help him up and make sure he was OK.
I talked with Mr. McCormack this afternoon and apologized for my part.
Here’s McCormack’s brief account of their chat. Good enough to save Meehan’s job with the Obama administration, presumably. If you’re starved for an exit question, Time’s got you covered. I’ll just leave you with this.

Rumor has it that Michael Meehan, who works for Martha Coakley, is a Yankee fan. Coakley’s assistant Meehan considers Bucky Dent a personal hero (as is Mookie Wilson). Martha Coakley’s assistant Meehan thought Wade Boggs’ career really came alive when he played for New York. Meehan, who works for Martha Coakley and the Democrats, openly mocks Tom Brady and roots for the Balitmore Ravens.
And that Martha Coakley does not have a problem with any of this and Michael Meehan’s love of New York and Maryland sport franchises. She is too busy cowtowing to national union representatives and big pharm to worry about the Rex Sox or the Patriots.

Evidently, according to AP, he ‘stumbled’ during a ‘scuffle’.

And after that, you kept shoving him backwards, ya thug. And, for that matter, why were you shoving him to begin with?

Okay, so what’s his excuse for following/pushing/shoving McCormack all over the sidewalk after he “helped him up” asking/demanding his credentials?
Come on, folks. You’re going to have to do better than this. These “oh, look over there” things worked when there weren’t six cameras and two cell phones taking pics of everything, but now, they just prove what we all knew…

Cavuto had McCormack on his show today. They ran a short clip of the exchange between McCormack and Coakley before her goon went all WWF on him.
McCormack asked Coakley, “Do you stand by your statement that there are no longer any terrorists in Afghanistan?”
Coakley gave him the “elistist” stare, turned away to the other reporters and said, “Does anyone have an important question to ask?”
Have to admit, she’s ready to step into Ted’s shoes. These folks turn my stomach.

So he apologizes for knocking the guy down and shoving him around after “helping” him up while strong-arming him for his “credentials,” BUT…he’s sorry only because he didn’t know the guy was a journalist. Such thuggery, it seems, is perfectly acceptable for what could have potentially been an ordinary voter trying to ask a candidate some questions. “Hey man, I didn’t mean to smack you around. I thought you were just a regular person, you know, a voter maybe.”
Nice. Real nice. I’ll say it again: How in the hell can any decent American belong to the democrat party? How!? How!?

Even if you accept the explanation that knocking him over was an accident, it remains unclear why Meehan continued afterward to obstruct McCormack’s path on a public right-of-way, while demanding to see his credentials.
Or the fact that Meehan claimed to work for himself.
Full. Of. Crap.
Kudos to McCormack who stayed classy by accepting the apology.

I’m appalled at the AP for spinning this into an “accident” when it clearly shows assault. This is going to be the down fall of Dems, if they don’t square it up. How can anyone support them, when they are obviously morally bankrupt.

If McCormack doesn’t press charges, he’s passing up a valid opportunity to expose these thugs for what they are imo. What a great opportunity to make the left live up to their words, and make Coakley testify, or swear a statement against her own monkey.
Anyone think the the opportunity would be passed up if the shoe was on the other foot..a reporter from a conservative group shoved one of her assistants to the ground while she was right there?
