Palin’s debut as Fox News contributor: Steve Schmidt’s a liar
posted at 9:18 pm on January 12, 2010 by Allahpundit
Fifteen minutes with O’Reilly, the most interesting part of which is probably her admission that she and Steve Schmidt chatted at length (in 2008) about whether Saddam Hussein was connected to 9/11. O’Reilly asks her about the other accusations in “Game Change” — whether she really couldn’t explain the differences between the two Koreas or who the enemy was in Iraq, etc. — and accepts her denials without asking her to elaborate too much, which is too bad for Palin since I’m sure she was prepared to answer. Alas.
She’s on for the full hour tomorrow with Glenn Beck. Exit question: What are the odds that he’ll get her to be at least haltingly semi-ambivalent about a third-party run? (Exit answer: 75 percent!)

Blowback

Poor Trolls. They can’t defend anything about Obama’s first year. They can’t defend any of the Beltway Country Club Politicians. All they have left is to attack Sarah Palin. Pi-ti-ful.

I think she’ll tapdance right past Beck. I think that because I honestly respect her political instincts, and Beck is not the answer, nor is some flukey 3rd party.
She’s either going to regain credibility or not. Her approval ratings are fine. Her credibility isn’t. It’s not really even entirely in her hands. A lot depends on the ongoing sexism in play.
We’ll see. But she’s got NO reason to do a 3rd party deal.
She does have as good of a shot at the GOP nomination as Romney or Pawlenty right now.
AnninCA on January 13, 2010 at 11:04 AM
I thought the interview reflected more on O’Reilly. His question about her IQ was insulting and sexist.
I won’t tune into him again, for sure.
She handled it fine. I will tune into her.
AnninCA on January 13, 2010 at 11:05 AM
This entire meme about her not being “bright” just is nothing but sexism. She’s pretty. She can’t also be bright.
Ask her a question and give her a soundbite answer. She answers generally, that reinforces the “She’s dumb.”
Dumb is when you “bite.” She didn’t bite.
Dumb is when you overestimate your appeal. She isn’t doing that.
Dumb is when you don’t know your hurdles. She knows.
Sarah Palin’s campaign style is a bit too redundant for MY taste. I prefer “glib.”
But I sure don’t think she’s dumb.
AnninCA on January 13, 2010 at 11:08 AM
The media hit on Palin is amazing. How many people seriously thing she is stupid? In order to assess her intelligence, it only makes sense to compare her to others.
To whom might you compare her? Joe Biden is an obvious choice. Yet, even after her excellent debate performance– and Biden’s dozen or more idiotic screwups– many people still think he won that debate.
Yet, clearly she is more knowledgeable about general affairs than he.
Or, Obama. On the day she was sworn in as Mayor of Wasilla, she obtained infinitely more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined, prior to them taking office last January.
And common sense? To this day, she outpaces them in this regard, overwhelmingly.
Yet, the Left still tags her as “stupid”. And many people foolishly buy into this narrative.

I hope they do split up and make a third party. With that I hope the dems split as well, moderates and way lefty wackos. We’d have a four way run and some great debates. Great TV. ha…and all in all, I think better for the American people that two parties don’t control everything.

You’re right. Running as a reformer, should she choose to run, would resonate with the majority of Americans.
As for all the trolls here calling Palin dumb, I think they must be thinking of Martha Coakley, the woman who can’t spell her state name and who thinks there are no terrorists in Afghanistan.
I’m sure Katie Couric and Tina Fey will be all over that.

No, that’s not what the Tea Party movement is about. It’s not a third party; it’s a bunch of concerned citizens wanting the govt to stop spending money and pay attention to the electorate. If that means real blue dog dems who won’t play the party games or conservative Republicans, whatever it takes to remind the intelligentsia/shmentelligentsia that they are NOT ultimately in charge.
This concept of Of the People, For the People and By the People is not empty rhetoric. It’s what makes America the last, best bastion of hope for humanity.
Tennman on January 13, 2010 at 11:47 AM
You truly, truly need to go study history.
I suggest the period of time between 1976 and 1980 A.D.
I suggest you focus on one Ronald Wilson Reagan. (Renaldus Magnus)
Substitute radio for Fox News and you’ll get it.
Lets see.
Reagan: Wrote insightful op-eds
Palin: writes insightful op-eds. Her July piece on global warming was WaPo’s 3rd most read of the year. The one she wrote early December the 23rd most read.
***Palin has a leg up on Reagan, as she OWNS Facebook, something that didn’t exist in Reagan’s day because Al Gore hadn’t invented the internets yet.
Reagan: Gave speeches, paid and unpaid to diverse groups nationwide.
Palin: Has more requests to speak than she can possibly ever do.
Reagan: Did regular radio commentary on current events
Palin: Will do regular television commentary on current events, plus the occasional special.
Had there been 24/7 news in Reagan’s day…..
Want more similarities?
Reagan: Went to “no name” college in small town.
Palin: Went to “no name” college in small town.
Reagan: Early in life was a radio sportscaster, before becoming actor
Palin: Was a television sportscaster, with a chance to work at ESPN.
The only thing Reagan had, that Sarah doesn’t, and this is why he made it all look so easy, was his acting career. Reagan spent decades polishing his ability to speak and deliver lines before he ever got into politics.
On the other hand, Sarah is a quick study, and once she gets comfortable, will be fine. Plus, doing commentary, and specials will help her polish up her style and delivery. (her message is spot on)
The added plus is this will all be the perfect debate training.
Bottom line?
Sarah is taking a proven successful path to the presidency. One taken by her political hero. One that produced two historic landslide victories.
Sarah will face what Reagan faced. Vicious, bordering on violent, hate (and that’s just from the Republicans!) A hostile press, and of course the dems. Then there are the economic issues, as well as all of the national security questions.
When you really look at it, it is absolutely eerie how close this situation we are in looks exactly like the period of time between 1976 and 1980. I mean scary similar. The economy, Afghanistan, Iran……
Obama is Carter 2.0
Sarah is Reagan in a skirt.
Anyone who doesn’t see how this deal plays out is, well…….
gary4205 on January 13, 2010 at 12:04 PM
She wasn’t prepared for the debate with Joe Biden–it was to be a disaster according to Schmidt—but what happened? She kicked Biden’s a$$. That shows she is a hell of a lot smarter than Biden and Obam picked this dumb Joe for his running mate, that shows how dumb Obummer is. Palin is smarter than both these yahoos and a hell of a lot better looking. As always it’s GO SARAH!

Palin will never engage in the unethical and some would say illegal acts that Hillary did. Hillary didn’t get half the coverage she should have.
If Palin had a supervisor from her past give her a review like Hillary’s from her service on the Watergate impeachment committee she’d never have seen a day in public office, yet where’s Hillary? Oh, yes, aided and abetted into an office by a sycophantic press. Just because they had to report on Hillary’s various misdeeds when they happened doesn’t mean they did so willingly—they reported then hastened to mitigate, minimize and spin it away.

Read the last chapters of Sarah Palin’s book. Evaluate her solid performance as Governor of Alaska. Study her real family, Christian, and conservative American common sense and values. And think about how little time–10 weeks–she had to “take it up a notch” in the presidential campaign.
***
She is the real deal–honest, good hearted, hard working, with good common sense. Contrast her actions with those of Comrade Obama (PBUH) and his ilk.
***
She learned a lot during the campaign. Her goal is to use Facebook, GOING ROGUE, FOX TV News, etc. as a “crowbar” to defeat the RINO’s and AMERICAN PRAVDA media and to become the real conservative POTUS candidate in 2012. The Sarah’Cuda is crazy like an Artic Fox–and there is no prize for “second place” in the Arctic wilderness. She knows how to win–and will do so. Stand back and enjoy the show.

Here’s another thought…. if Steve Schmidt was so brilliant, why was he immediately dropping Palin into hostile territory (Couric, etc) and ignoring calls from interviewers who would have given her a chance to try out the wheels on the new bike for a couple of days before riding off down the block. In fact, one of the biggest question that has never been answered was why the McCain campaign routinely ignored media venues which were natural allies.
The fact of the matter is that when you can screw up the campaign of a candidate such as McCain, you’ve got big problems. McCain had alot going for him and got mismanaged into the ground.

I was annoyed with O’Reilly’s repeatedly goading her to address Schmidt’s smears on 60 Minutes as well. The question was asked and answered and he should have let it go at that. I’m not sure what he expected her to say other than to laugh it off as ridiculous. Having said that, I wouldn’t characterize the attacks on her intellect as sexist per se. Certainly that’s a corollary of it, but painting powerful conservatives as stupid has been part of the liberal playbook for decades. Reagan was supposedly the biggest dolt who ever walked the face of the Earth, to hear the left tell it. It’s their number one go-to weapon in their worn out bag of tricks. It’s a kneejerk reflex: Influential conservative = woefully stupid. What’s ironic about it is that the Dems are always trying to paint themselves as the party of the common man and yet they’ve cornered the market on elitism and snobbery.

I’ve never understood the trashing about her college years. Since most actual adults don’t validate their accomplishments based on what they did when they were 30 + years ago when they were 18 I haven’t been that concerned about her college years.
IMO the time in Hawaii is pretty understandable – a girl from cold Alaska would think going to school on the beach in a warm beautiful place couldn’t be beat. That being said – 18 year olds in strange places get homesick and/or find the soft life too distracting.
I thought the other places involved funding issues and/or just not finding a good fit. People act like she was the only student on the face of the earth to change colleges. What is also funny is that today MANY schools, including highly rated ones, concede that it will take longer that 4 years to graduate. The schools routinely talk about 5 years as being the norm.

It’ll be interesting to see if Palin becomes more willing to say what she really thinks. Last night with O’Reilly, she was still firmly in politician mode. But what most of her fans like, and what would attract even more, is when she goes ahead and says what she thinks, even when it’s not the conventional political wisdom.
For example, she wasn’t willing to say that Iran will eventually need to suffer military strikes if they continue down the path of developing nuclear weapons. She could’ve given a simple, clear answer there, but didn’t. And I think she avoided the simple answer because she knew the media would beat her up for it. But guess what- the media is going to beat her up anyway.

Yes he was. And I am still waiting for proof of this assumption.
I’ll wager I’ll wait forever bcs it hasn’t appeared in any speech he’s made.
I honestly have no idea what causes people to become spellbound over this person.
Sarah Palin doesn’t claim to be a genius.
She is just honest & down to earth & wants to serve.
She’s put herself out there. And she’s been brutally treated for it.
I trust people from the country before I trust people from the city.
Badger40 on January 13, 2010 at 2:57 PM
Dave the Articulate ‘Canadian’ Comedian speaks again!!
You’re the expert on ‘bullsh*t’, Dave. Obama was given financial aid, scholarships, and passing grades as a typical Affirmative Action Baby; Sarah wasn’t. In the real world, Dave, blue collar people often need to scramble to take advantage of whatever options come up.
As a snob-liar ( an interesting but unfortunately common combination on the Left ) you miss the point that the appeal of Sarah is her issue positions and basic honesty–while your Messiah is sinking fast because of his issue positions and dishonesty
You won’t even admit you’re not Canadian–so deep in denial, you come here to soak up abuse and scorn. Very sad……
Janos Hunyadi on January 13, 2010 at 2:58 PM
Not trashing Obama’s education choices, just wondering how in the world he can be so arrogant and obtuse instead of instituting real transparency, hope and change he promised to all those suckers who voted for hin – not to mention in view of those wonderful choices he took advantage of – how could he take away the same choices for the poor in DC by not allowing the vouchers to continue…….
huskerdiva on January 13, 2010 at 3:01 PM
Obama hides what he did in college, troll; Sarah doesn’t. Obama pretends to be smarter than Mostly Everyone; Sarah doesn’t. Obama is a radical socialist tool of Soros; Sarah isn’t. and so on, etc.
How’s the weather up in ‘Canada’, Dave? Got enough Global Warming? And which province are you from? Did you finish Grade 13?
Janos Hunyadi on January 13, 2010 at 2:45 PM

Obama: has not released his grades
Palin: has not released her grades
Obama graduated magna cum laude, which means grades well above average. So why isn’t that good enough for you?
So, what exactly is he hiding?
Dave Rywall on January 13, 2010 at 3:01 PM
Link to what? She doesn’t hide where she went. She bases her views on her life experiences and common sense, not her ‘formal education’. Most people do likewise.
You Palin-hating creeps need to get a hobby–and stop pretending to be moderate, ‘concerned’, thoughtful information-seekers: That pose is old and false and rotting through
Janos Hunyadi on January 13, 2010 at 3:03 PM
Why do you pretend to be Canadian, Dave? Because that was fashionable among Leftist Retards during the BushHitler era and you can’t shake it?
Answer your own question, Dave: What IS Obama hiding?
Janos Hunyadi on January 13, 2010 at 3:06 PM
And no one trashed Obama’s kids during the campaign, but everyone jumped on the bandwagon to trash Palin’s kids.
Liberals really do want to have it both ways.
Seriously, why aren’t you having dialogue with your own countrymen about Canadian politics?
Is the fare so bland and insignificant that you need to come here to get fed?
Badger40 on January 13, 2010 at 2:50 PM

You respond to my point by bringing up an entirely different topic, irrelevant to the topic at hand. I guess you can’t focus.
I’ll gladly discuss the media’s treatment of both candidates if that’s the topic at hand.
Again, trashing Obama’s education choices while complaining about trashing of Palin’s remains hypocritical.
Dave Rywall on January 13, 2010 at 3:06 PM
So where is the link to ‘what Sarah did in college’ that she didn’t hide. And, the name of the non-fluff interview she has done post Couric. Palinbots always make statements that can’t be backed up.
rjl1999 on January 13, 2010 at 3:07 PM
Grades mean very little in the world of ‘doing’.
Since I’m a HS science teacher, I can relate that just bcs someone gets goods grades, doesn’t mean that they really understand what they were tested on.
I have lots of kids that get bad grades & are much more intelligent than the ‘smart’ kids.
And being clean, articulate, & educated doesn’t mean squat when you are constantly showing the world how stupid you are through your failing decisions.
Badger40 on January 13, 2010 at 3:08 PM
Any day of the week!
Barry attempts to put forth this “perfect” image, whereas Sarah makes no attempt to be anyone other than who she really is, someone who really loves her country and loves her family/God and freedom – I’ll put my money on her to do the right thing …or at least not to covertly try to turn the country into a dictatorship…

Yeah, he was editor of the Harvard Law Review despite being a moron. He somehow fooled everyone in a magazine published 8 times a year.
Then he fooled everyone and became a constitutional law professor for 12 yeasrs. All those kids were taught garbage by a guy who knew nothing about the law. All his fellow professors had no idea he was a moron.
Your stupidity is astounding.
Dave Rywall on January 13, 2010 at 3:12 PM
I personally never trashed his educational decisions.
But he is not an intellectual giant.
He likes to say lots of big words, use circular arguments, evading truthful, to the point answers (as most politicians do), in his speeches & they are fully without substance, IMHO.
Palin is a normal, everyday person & uses the ‘language’ that normal everyday people speak in.
But seriously, again, if you are Canadian, then why are you wasting your time arguing about our politics when you could be somewhere else talking about your own?
Unless you are an ex-pat?
Then why do you care at all?
Are you on the BO payroll or something?
Badger40 on January 13, 2010 at 3:13 PM
Where are his peer review published papers on Constitutional law?
If you have ever been an American, or lived here, you would know that lots of minorities are given jobs & positions they are not qualified for.
This includes women.
Nothing I have ever witnessed of Obama leads me to believe he ever deserved such a pedestal.
Affirmative Action lowers the standards in the belief that minorities can’t compete bcs they are ‘disadvantaged’.
As I woman, I would find it insulting as hell to be hired for a position only bcs I was a woman, & not bcs I was the most qualified.
It happens all the time.
Badger40 on January 13, 2010 at 3:16 PM
So you are assuming that bcs someone holds a certain position they are automatically smart enough to do so?
You are naive.

I’m Hungarian. My people are not that smart. We’re trying to catch up to the rest of the world, but it’s just not working out.
Dave Rywall on January 13, 2010 at 3:27 PM
So you are a Hungarian immigrant living in Canada?
You are not Canadian?
So why are not trolling around Hungarian political web sites arguing about their politics?
And for the record-my husbands grandmother was full Hungarian.
Her father came here at the age of 8yo & was a very intelligent, hard-working man.
He succeeded in making enough $$ to bring over almost a dozen of his family members to this country.
So I would wager many Hungarians are smart.
Which begs the question…..
Badger40 on January 13, 2010 at 3:32 PM
Either she’s gotten some bad advice or the book tour awakened a hunger for the type of no-effort adulation that being in the entertainment industry brings. She hasn’t even bothered to put a message to all her ‘poli-fans’ about this move to becoming a Fox pundit. All this disturbs me greatly. I don’t CARE that Reagan was a broadcaster once. He also was a Democrat once.
There isn’t time for this sort of thing if she’s to be part of a 2012 candidacy and personally, I believe she won’t be. She’s going to be a Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck type of conservative; all talk and no getting involved by seeking office.
It’s a lot easier (and more remunerative) to sit on the sidelines and do commentary and take potshots. It’s another thing to actually put “our lives, our fortunes, our sacred honor” on the line and DO something.
She will still be valuable but we must not dally around wishing and hoping cause Sarah ain’t going to Washington any time soon.

You need to let go of your ‘link’ fetish–and let go of yourself as you type with one hand. Remember what Emerson said about the ‘hobgoblin of little minds’: You, sadly, are a Little Mind.
Sarah doesn’t base her life or politics on what she did or didn’t learn in college. She made the best of a fairly common ‘blue collar’ situation and took advantage of the opportunities that came up. Her politics are an extension of her entire life, particularly as a mother and a citizen of a small town where common sense and resourcefulness are basic requirements for survival
Janos Hunyadi on January 13, 2010 at 3:52 PM
I don’t believe she has indicated that she plans to run for office in 2012
So those who help “give voice” to issues/concerns aren’t actually doing anything? Care to explain who you’re talking about – other than the military
So nice that you feel she can used used.

I’m not Hunyadi and you’re not Canadian–but lying is part of your nature and you can’t give it up.
I don’t care about Obama–you do, but who cares? This thread is about Palin, and my comments are about her. I’m a Rudy Guy myself, but I love the way she brings out the worse in Leftoid moron like you. You and your fellow-trolls are Pavlov’s Dogs. slobbering when they hear the bell: Sarah makes you fester, and it’s fun to watch
and what IS Obama hiding, Dave?
Janos Hunyadi on January 13, 2010 at 3:57 PM
Dave uses the new-fangled Internet to find a Canadian Nugget, eh? Nice try: Earlier you tried a Wiki bit about the Queen’s speech in Parliament but forgot to capitalize ‘Queen’ or ‘Parliament. No Actual Canuck would do that.
Give it up, Drywall: Admit you concocted a fake personna and start over as a New Troll on a new day on a new thread

If you can’t figure out the general range of his grades from the magna cum laude distinction then you’re too stupid to be crybabying what is he hiding what
is he hiding.
The box of rocks on Fox will continue to titillate us all but for very different reasons. And it’s only the first day.
Dave Rywall on January 13, 2010 at 4:03 PM
A full hour with Beck? Get her away from Beck. He gains and she loses from that partnership. His rep is that of a kook….hers is not. Don’t do this association thing between the two. Get her out of there. She is far better on her own with a monologue and doing specific news stories. Beck is drawing from her popularity. I suppose she doesn’t have much say in the match up but FOX certainly will work whatever it takes to improve Beck’s popularity. This will do it but will also detract from her own.
highninside on January 13, 2010 at 4:04 PM
Funniest thing of all is that the Socialists are all tuning into FOX now to make fun of her, completely unaware that they are playing right into Ailes’ hands by doing so.
Hey Socialists, how does it feel to put money in Roger Ailes’ wallet?
How does it feel to be completely pwned by the Right?
Morons, every last one of ‘em. Liberalism really is a brain-wasting disease.
