CBS: At least 20 congressmen went to Copenhagen on taxpayer dime
posted at 8:33 pm on January 11, 2010 by Allahpundit
Drudge has been touting it all day but I wanted to wait for the video. Number who went all-expenses-paid: 20, reportedly. Number who went while footing part of the bill themselves: 101, if you include spouses and congressional staff. A little bit Woodstock, a little bit Vatican II, and a whole lot of nothing by way of an agreement at the end. But thank goodness Nancy and the gang got to see it firsthand. The gladhanding with international bureaucrats must have been amazing.
A nice surprise from Katie Couric on a day when Rasmussen reports 50 percent of likely voters no longer believe in man-made global warming. I thought they were going to leave out the carbon emission angle — but just wait.

Giant carbon footprint. I’d like to see the footprints on their backsides.

This makes me sick! They abuse their power so much. Government is just way to freaking big.
deidre on January 11, 2010 at 8:36 PM
I laughed when I heard he went to make sure no one believe the Congressional delegation that was trying to imply that green regulation like cap/trade was close to being passed.
Spirit of 1776 on January 11, 2010 at 8:36 PM
When Obama and his Congress call for us all to have some skin in the game and sacrifice I’m glad they are leading by example.
NeoKong on January 11, 2010 at 8:37 PM
This and the CBS poll on Obowma posted below. Trying to regain lost credibility?

Has CBS actually discovered “journalistic integrity” and *gasp* unbiased political reporting lately?
JetBoy on January 11, 2010 at 8:40 PM
And free sex for those with credentials. No wonder so many of our elected officials went.
BobMbx on January 11, 2010 at 8:41 PM
ya know rangel can’t say no to a free ride…
they wanted to show that the US meant business…ugh
cmsinaz on January 11, 2010 at 8:41 PM
What I`m more concerned with is, did they use my money to buy carbon off-sets for the trip?
ThePrez on January 11, 2010 at 8:41 PM
I’d like to see footprints on their foreheads.
thomasaur on January 11, 2010 at 8:43 PM
Anyone noticed it’s been below freezing ever since this whole sham went down? At least in most of the country.
Punishment for their moral preening.
JammieWearingFool on January 11, 2010 at 8:44 PM
They are always flying off somewhere. At least they went to a snow bound city this time. More typical for this time of year is a delegation to Puerto Rico to investigate statehood.
Or the CBC going to Cuba to meet Castro.
GnuBreed on January 11, 2010 at 8:44 PM
I give it a week before the White House gets ahold of them.
deidre on January 11, 2010 at 8:44 PM
GrowFins and BleedsBlue need to show up stat or I will continue to lobby hard for their banning. Can’t pick your party to attend here beyotches…take the good with the bad.

Curious that these fine people don’t seem to fall over themselves visiting our troops in Afghanistan or Iraq, and they never manage to see how our foreign policy is working in Haiti, Yemen or Liberia.
Bishop on January 11, 2010 at 8:47 PM
No.
Next question.
Dr. Carlo Lombardi on January 11, 2010 at 8:47 PM
I bet Atkisson and CBS will soon be getting a phone call to pull the plug on this kind of crap…expect a correction piece very soon.
d1carter on January 11, 2010 at 8:49 PM
We should have sent EVERY Democrat Congressman to Copenhagen.
Then barred them from returning.
The stock market would have doubled overnight, with America rid of these worthless, corrupt and incompetent pieces of garbage.
NoDonkey on January 11, 2010 at 8:50 PM
Let us see if there is an actual follow up, or if the story just withers on the vine…
I don’t watch the CBS News, so if any of you happen to be flipping channels and come across it, please be good enough to share.

“the size of the delegation proved that the United States is serious about combating climate change”
No, it proved that we have been taken over by a bunch of grandstanding powderpuff jackasses.
paul1149 on January 11, 2010 at 8:53 PM
I think we should buy everyone who went a plane ticket to their home state. Done.
TXMomof3 on January 11, 2010 at 8:54 PM
These people are completely out of their minds.
We need to put them back in their place!
It’s just around the corner and we need to put a stop to this insanity.
ORrighty on January 11, 2010 at 8:55 PM
I think the worst thing CBS ever did, in my memory anyway, was when they sent Dan Rather to have that interview with Saddam before the war. And showing Rather drooling over that sadistic “you know what”…
Still makes me sick to think about it.
JetBoy on January 11, 2010 at 8:55 PM
No I said CBC, as in Congressional Black Caucus.
GnuBreed on January 11, 2010 at 8:57 PM

It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.

If this was during a Republican controlled congress, the libs would make good use of it. As it’s not, you’ll never hear about it again.

Is it me or is the woman on the left in the still shot in the video the same woman standing in the unemployment line photo we often see posted on HA?
Maybe she finally found a job giving directions in Copenhagen.

You may be right but I saw a HA poster the other day showing that she was directing luggage on an airplane. She must be holding down two jobs while the rest of us are in the unemployment line.

You guys have the wrong end of the stick, here.
I wish they’d all gone to Copenhagen, then taken time for a leisurely tour of the Adriatic and some fact-finding in the south of France and Monaco. There’s no way they could spend a tenth as much, or do a tenth as much damage, on junket as they do in session. The ones who went were just having fun on the expense account. The ones who stayed home are the dangerous b*ds.
Regards,
Ric

Thank goodness they all went! Maybe their huge carbon butt-print will save us from the coming ice-age brought on by the overly successful global warming alarmism campaign. (Snicker)

It’s about time. Los Angeles local stations routinely “bust” the local Jiffy Lube for overcharging Grandma but not one of these tough guy investigators heads up to Sacramento to expose massive state fraud and waste.
Ladies and gentlemen, the only way to stop them is to kill them. And nobody is prepared to do that so they will continue to steal our money and spit in our faces while they do so.

Given Imhofe and Upton heading over, I’d love to know how many were there as “Friends of the Court” to argue against this travesty.
Blacksmith on January 12, 2010 at 12:54 AM
And these are the folks who are gonna run our newfangled deathcare system (actually the term “system” rarely applies in most cases where it used, especially this one!).
When ya fly to Copenhagen, ya use a plane that is controlled by a “system”.
The decision to send all of those losers to that FUBAR fest: now that ain`t no damn system. That`s big government out of control is what we have on our hands.
The words system and government less than rarely go hand in hand.

I live in a Territory with a population of 40,000… the Territorial government sent 5 legislators to that travesty.

The push for global warming has not been cooling. They are still out there as if nothing has changed, no emails or letter to UN. They are not going to drop this down some memory hole no matter what.
