Yowza: Brown 48, Coakley 47 in new PPP poll

posted at 8:19 pm on January 9, 2010 by Allahpundit

The exciting, and I do mean exciting, follow-up to last night’s post. Not until I hear the words “Coakley concedes” will I believe this is possible, but just try to wrap your mind around these numbers. The indies alone:

-As was the case in the Gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia last year, it looks like the electorate in Massachusetts will be considerably more conservative than the one that showed up in 2008. Obama took the state by 26 points then, but those planning to vote next week only report having voted for him by 16.

-Republicans are considerably more enthusiastic about turning out to vote than Democrats are. 66% of GOP voters say they are ‘very excited’ about casting their votes, while only 48% of Democrats express that sentiment- and that’s among the Democrats who are planning to vote in contrast to the many who are apparently not planning to do so at this point.

-Brown has eye popping numbers with independents, sporting a 70/16 favorability rating with them and holding a 63-31 lead in the horse race with Coakley. Health care may be hurting Democratic fortunes with that group, as only 27% of independents express support for Obama’s plan with 59% opposed.

Check the crosstabs and you’ll find Brown pulling 17 percent of the Democratic vote versus just six percent of the Republican vote for Coakley. Coakley’s net favorable rating? +8. Brown’s? +32. I won’t be surprised to see Biden or even The One himself forced to jet up there next week to try to get the base, especially young voters and minorities, to turn out.

Here’s Brown on last night’s Hannity promising to be the 41st vote against ObamaCare — assuming the Dems let him into the chamber. Exit question: If you’re a Blue Dog, how do you begin to process this information?

Lets say Brown wins and Deval Patrick refuses to allow Brown to vote by delay tactics:
THEN THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY.
Geochelone on January 10, 2010 at 1:34 AM

Watch the pitchforks and hammer heads start coming out if Brown can’t vote! This may make us all crack…..I’m ready.

yoda on January 10, 2010 at 5:40 AM

The Boston Globe has a new poll out showing Coakley with a 15-17% lead. That seems out of line from what we’ve been hearing, but it’s out there.
`
Reid and Patrick were stupid to discuss their plans to delay Brown’s oath, if he should win, in order to pass Obamacare. They should have just dragged it out quietly, had some “independent” group like ACORN allege irregularities and demand an investigation, they would have had adequate cover for the scam. By being stupid enough to announce their intentions publicly, they’ve guaranteed that even if it works they will have a political price to pay.

This poll doesn’t factor in Joe Kennedy, an independent candidate who appeals to many libertarians. I can’t prove it but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if the Coakley campaign is funding his campaign to keep the distraction on the ballot to tap of libertarian votes. On the other hand, the guy’s name is Joe Kennedy. Hopefully, he’ll also pick up a share of the Democratic drone voters who think he must be related to THAT Joe Kennedy. ;-)

Americans across the country are waking up to what the Dems agenda really is.

Here in America they hear the word ‘socialism’ launched at their agenda and they laugh it off, with the media echoing their guffaws and openly mocking those who would dare suggest such a thing.

Then Howard Dean addresses the Euro-socialists and tells it like it is:

Howard Dean said on Dec. 8 that “cooperation” between European socialists and the Democratic Party has “intensified significantly” over the last several years and involves “regular contact” at “Congress, Senate, party and foundation levels.” He added that “efforts have been remarkable from both sides.”

So….Democrats think the American people are too stupid to understand their agenda IS socialism. They will laugh at the allegation and repaint their socialist views as ‘progressive’ and the gullible public swallows it because nobody but FOX News will challenge them.

We all need to send Brown some money… This is too good to be true…

Khun Joe on January 10, 2010 at 7:48 AM

No worries. The RNC will swoop in and give Coakley a million bucks at the last minute to keep the more conservative person out of office.

A previous poster said people are giving $9.12…$17.76…and $20.10… I like that idea and will do the same now. I have already given, but I am giving more!

BTW, for a bit of inspiration, go read Prof Jacobsons blog. He is on the ground reporting. And RedState is reporting ‘Red Tide Rising’ So let us all help Scott over the finish line!

If Joe Biden were to answer Duty’s Call, we might hear this:
Martha, I served with Ted Kennedy, I knew Ted Kennedy, Ted Kennedy was a friend of mine. Martha, you’re no Ted Kennedy… but he would have hit on you.

Mr Purple on January 10, 2010 at 7:48 AM

Kind of irrelevant, though. The average American doesn’t even understand what socialism is, anymore. Just a pretty vision of Utopia, where all is love and butterflies.

This is one of the hardest parts of spreading conservatism – teaching that yes, the world is tough, and that self-reliance is difficult. But it’s worth it, in the short and long-runs. It is the only way to live that actually improves the lives of the vast majority of people.

Martha Coakley will win big, by at least 10 points. This is all smoke and mirrors by the Left to get their voters to the polls and to build Coakley up when she wins, as she might be the 60th vote.

I don’t know if this has been posted yet.

Polling the Glob staff doesn’t count.

roy_batty on January 10, 2010 at 9:14 AM

I’m boots on the ground here in Massachusetts, and I’ve not felt such real ‘hope and change’ in the air for years. Where once I had to drive through a literal sea of ‘Obama-love,’ where every privileged home seemed to sport an Obama sign stuck in its perfectly manicured lawn, I’m actually seeing more Brown signs than Coakley (his assumed shoe-in lib opponent,) and I’m wondering, really? Could it be?

If the local talk radio jocks (Carr, Severin, ETC.,) can keep up the full-court press, and if enough Union sign holders come to the realization that Coakley’s ‘path to citizenship’ pledge is in reality a path leading formerly illegal aliens directly to their own jobs, we just might make history. And if this could happen in the land of Kennedy, and Kerry, and Frank, imagine the repurcusions throughout the land?

Tremble, little democrats, tremble.

CaptFlood on January 10, 2010 at 9:14 AM

So….Democrats think the American people are too stupid to understand their agenda IS socialism.

Mr Purple on January 10, 2010 at 7:48 AM

But you have to remember a few things.

1. 60 years of union/Marxist indoctrination in public schools. Most kids graduating high school think Castro is a hero and George Washington is a villain.

2. 50% of Americans pay no federal income tax. So when a Dem says vote for me and I will give you free stuff, it sounds very appealing. Who doesn’t want free stuff without having to work for it?

3. Have you been to a WalMart lately? American society ain’t exactly knocking on Mensa’s door asking for membership these days. Show a shiny bead to your average American and you got his vote.

And I’m not knocking WalMart by the way, but it is a great representation of the average person.

Good one! I think I read somewhere that the Globe’s polls are sampled from registered voters, and not likely voters.

Kevin71 on January 10, 2010 at 9:22 AM

JellyToast on January 10, 2010 at 9:02 AM

Instapundit linked to it. The actual number may be somewhere in between Brown up by 1 and Coakley up by 15. Brown may still be within striking distance.

Wethal on January 10, 2010 at 9:32 AM

I donated to Brown on Friday, and I will donate again on Monday in support of the “moneybomb“.

Money donated to Brown is not wasted. Even if he loses, Brown has proven himself an articulate and energetic spokesperson for conservative ideas. It’s fun to hear him speak, and he is worthy of elevation to a national stage.

blueguitarbob on January 10, 2010 at 9:34 AM

While I still think in the end Brown is going to turn out to be another Doug Hoffman and lose narrowly, even that will have a large national impact.

If this election were this Tuesday, Brown might have a shot to pull the surprise upset. But now the Democrats have woken up and it’s going to be all hands on deck this week. I’m betting Obama will make a last minute appareance in Boston for Coakley. They will drag her sorry butt across the finish line any way they can. There is going to be a face-melting barrage of attack ads against Brown this week.

1. Except now more than ever kids are networked in ways the over-40 set (me included) never dreamed of. They verify and question their teachers and form their own opinions.

2. No question, for many to be in the cart getting pulled is better than pulling. As far as vote buying though there are still more here with more whose vote isn’t bought that easily.

3. IMO, Wal-Mart has more of my neighbors shopping it than ever before as does Costco, BJ’s, & Ocean State Job Lot. Everyone wants to save a buck.

roy_batty on January 10, 2010 at 9:44 AM

Obama won’t come to the Bay State … if this race is too close to call, then after his flameouts in the NJ and VA gubernatorial races, a failure by the One to deliver a Democrat in Massachusetts will put his administration on life support. In fact, what makes me the most (guardedly) opitmistic is that if Coakley was well ahead, then O would come. O’s absence is the best indicator that Brown has more than a puncher’s chance.

On the other hand, if Brown comes within 1-2% but loses, then the national RNC’s lack of support for Brown until the 11th hour mandates the end of Michael Steele, especially after NY-23 debacle. Michael has been too busy promoting Michael, and not doing enough to mind the shop. He would need to go … hopefully he would see the writing on the wall. It’s not the RNC that won NJ and VA, nor the RNC that has opened this opportunity in MA … if Steele fumbles, then he needs to be benched.

Uh… Not quite the ‘true’ conservative:

A state Senator serving during Romney’s administration supporting and voting for billions in additional spending, millions of dollars in fee hikes and the utterly broken MassCare system known as RomneyCare.

A man who voted for a property tax hike in his town of Wrentham, purposely overriding proposition 2 ½ designed to keep property taxes limited.

A man who went on air to publicly speak out against ending the state income tax on the 2008 ballot and returning 12 billion dollars back into the pockets of Massachusetts citizens. Claiming that depriving 12 billion from the State coffers is reckless, despite knowing full well that the state spent almost 49 billion in 2008!

A man who proudly speaks of his involvement in RomneyCare, a plan widely endorsed by both Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton.

Zero will not go to MA to assist Coakley after the fiasco in NJ. Biden can risk it since he’s not the messiah. O will stay in his room reading love letter from his fans and keep his fingers crossed. They still have a plan, remember October comes before November.

Forgive me if my memory is a bit hazy, but wasn’t it the democraps who stated that Al Franken(furter) had to be sworn in right away because the stakes were too high to let the Senate function without him.
If dems refuse to seat Brown upon his upset victory, and the repubs win the House and/or the Senate, could they refuse to swear in any elected democrap for a year?

eaglewingz08 on January 10, 2010 at 11:41 AM

They polled Harvard square. Thats the only way to get a poll to come out that way. The number of Coakley ads during the football games yesterday tells the real story. The dems know they are losing.

Her ad spammed throughout football… playoffs… Scott Brown’s ad appeared only three or four times.

That was an unprecedented election with no example to fall upon. Moreover Dede Scozzaflava pulled out a little late for absentee ballots and the word to get around to less informed voters.

Hoffman very nearly pulled off an upset.

January 19, 2010 Independence Day II
Massachusetts Congressional Election

A vote for Scott Brown is a vote to begin to take back our country

Independence Day excerpt (from Matina McBride classic):

Let freedom ring
Let the white dove sing
Let the whole world know that today is the day of a reckoning
Let the weak be strong
Let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away
Let the guilty pay
It’s Independence Day

Sweet_Thang on January 10, 2010 at 6:28 PM

Don’t let the trolls distract you, Coakley is basically in hiding fanning herself because she, like all the other Democratic hacks, have taken the Massachusetts voters for granted for so long they think we’re their serfs.

But no more. Scott Brown for Senate!
