Video: Cafferty blows stack at Obama, Pelosi over ObamaCare secrecy
posted at 2:55 pm on January 7, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
I guess Jack Cafferty has stopped feeling the Hope and Change, huh? Via the Anchoress and Instapundit, we have Cafferty blowing his stack at Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and just about every Democrat in Congress over the decision to put a bill together in secret — er, excuse me, replace a conference committee with “informal negotiations.” In fact, Cafferty accuses Obama of telling lies “just to get elected,” which seems somehow like a watershed moment in media coverage from CNN, at least:
How dare they? President Obama, Democratic leaders have decided to bypass a formal House and Senate conference committee in order to reconcile those two health care bills. Instead, White House and Democratic leaders will hold informal — that’s another word for secret — negotiations, meant to shut Republicans and the public out of the process.
What a far cry from the election, when then candidate Obama pledged to — quote — “broadcast health care negotiations on C-SPAN, so that the American people can see what the choices are” — unquote.
President Obama hasn’t even made a token effort to keep his campaign promises of more openness and transparency in government. It was all just another lie that was told in order to get elected. The head of C-SPAN wrote a letter, asked Congress to — quote — “open all the important negotiations, including any conference committee meetings, to electronic media coverage” — unquote. When White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was asked whether the administration would support televising the negotiations, he refused to answer, instead mumbling something about, well, I haven’t seen the letter.
That wasn’t the question, Mr. Gibbs. You either support openness or you don’t. The Democrats insist this is all on the up-and-up, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi saying — quote — “There’s never been a more open process for any legislation.” — unquote.
Really? This is the same Nancy Pelosi who you may recall, after becoming speaker in 2006, promised the Democrats would have — quote — “the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history” — unquote.
Here’s hoping the voters remember some of this crap when the midterm elections roll around later this year.
A CNN commentator cheerleading Republican victory in the midterms? Jack Cafferty calling Barack Obama a liar on national TV? Are cats and dogs raining from the sky today?

Awesomely awesome!
Was talking about this with my liberal husband last night. he agreed that the process on this bill has now become the story, and it is bad, and it has thrown a giant pile of dirt all over Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize and all the other hopeychangey stuff. No amount of White House spin will make it better, even if a bill passes and they manufacture a huge amount of hoopla as Obama signs it. Once a True Believer like Jack Cafferty says you lied, you are done.
Obama is now dead as an Agent of Change, and that was the only thng that recommended him as President to millions of Democrats over Hillary Clinton. To say his supporters are disappointed now is a gross understatement.
rockmom on January 7, 2010 at 3:27 PM
Will Crissy Tingles be next to fall off of the hope-n-change wagon?
farright on January 7, 2010 at 3:27 PM
Guessing that wasn’t really Jack Cafferty doing the the talking, but rather Jack Daniels.
This doesn’t strike me as an honest-to-goodness hit at the honesty of Obama and Pelosi. It’s more like a frustrated lib who sees the House and Senate going behind closed doors as a way to hide how pathetic the Dems are for not just hammering this boondoggle through, and how watered down the “historic” bill is gonna get.
red winger on January 7, 2010 at 3:27 PM
So this is what happens when a liberal moron finally figures out how stupid he was for falling for the HopeyChangey?
Funny, funny stuff.

This is funny, but not shocking. I know a liberal, used to work with him, who voted for Obama.
And I just found out today that he’s a Glenn Beck fan, and is having the worst case of buyer’s remorse evah. He’s planning on voting straight Republican to try to make up for his last vote.

They are now entering the stage of a meteor beginning to enter earth’s atmosphere, breaking up and burning out pretty quickly. Thanks to God for saving the Republic from an internal dasterdly Progressive Socialist coup. I hope it’s a long time before anyone trusts the Democratic Party again. These Liberal Obamaniacs who are now sooo upset over his lies and incompetence are pathetic. Now they are outraged at Bambi, when they should be outraged at their own damned stupidity at believing him in the first place.
This is just one more example of the left’s inability to take responsibilty for themselves. They fawned all over someone whom they didn’t bother to find anything about, and now it is Bambi’s fault we have an ignorant liar in the White House, not to mention the lowlifes they put into the HOR and Senate.

JAM on January 7, 2010 at 3:46 PM
Well, I was wondering what it would take and how long it would take for the Legacy Media to get a clue! But when the machinations of Obama’s League of Alinskyites crossed the line and actually went after the media, regardless of party affiliation, then I guess it was hitting too close to home.
Starting with Rush Limbaugh, and moving on to Fox News, of late Obamaites have been literally threatening and harassing the likes of travel journalists and even Michael Yon. That latest incident, of actually handcuffing Michael Yon for not answering the totally inappropriate question of what was the amount of his income, had to have made the alarm bells go off big time throughout Legacy Media circles.
The Democrats have a well established agenda of getting toes in the door in order to gradually and inexorably, increment by increment, build on that opening to achieve their ultimate goals. The LSM/MSM must have seen the attempts to silence conservative media types as the toe in the door which would eventually lead to nationalizing the media en todo, such as has happened in countries like Venezuela, Cuba, and others.
No way you’ll ever get the LSM/MSN in this country to look the other way while any segment at all of their own group is silenced! They’re at least smart enough to see down the road to the consequences of that effort. I’m not at all surprised at Jack Cafferty’s reaction, given the recent harassment of those travel related journalists, and especially with what happened to Michael Yon. It’s the equivalent of being pushed to the edge of the crater of an active volcano. The LSM/MSM is now digging in their heels and fighting back, at last.
A little too late, for sure, and it will probably stop as soon as the heat of the upcoming midterms show the Dems will probably lose big time. The LSM/MSM has way too much invested in the Liberal/Progressive movement to totally reverse itself. But one can daydream of the possibilities, I guess.

Wow, the media is beginning to turn on the Dems, over transparency. Finally a campaign promise that people care about and so obviously broken that it cannot be ignored. Bring on the outrage. Better late than never.
How badly are Dems willing to lose in 2010? The antipathy (enthusiasm) among Republicans and independents is growing. Apathy (disappointment) is growing among Democrats.
Democrats expect immigration reform to be the wedge issue that maintains their majorities? Republicans better figure out their messaging on this issue, something like winning the argument about why national borders are important and need to be enforced.
That’s it in a nutshell, either we will have borders or we will not. If yes, then enact policies that remove illegal immigration incentives (jobs and anchor babies) and erect obstacles suitable to restrict unauthorized cross-border traffic. Some will cross, but it should require effort and decent risk of apprehension. If no borders, then shut down ICE and embrace the future. All who can get here are welcome. That’s pretty much the situation that Dems would codify now, and again as needed.
Because of Dem and media enabler desperation, we are all about to become RACISTS! Nobody advance indicates this like recent comments about the Tea Party activists coming from Chris Matthews and from NPR.
exdeadhead on January 7, 2010 at 4:05 PM
Why the sudden change? He and all the other left-leaning media saw it coming before the election and chose to ignore it all. Now it’s so bad that holding their nose is no longer an option. How convenient for them. What a nice cover for not doing their jobs in the first place. I’ve got news for them, it will take generations for them to recover in the eyes of Americans — or however long it takes to indoctrinate another crop of starry-eyed liberals to sit in attendance at the smarter than thou media alter.
Sorry Mr. Cafferty. Elvis has already left the building.
