Michelle: No, I don’t support whole-body imaging at airport checkpoints

posted at 7:00 pm on January 7, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via the Right Scoop, a minor surprise from my favorite “security mom.” It’s not the privacy concerns that have her worried, although those are real; it’s that, like much of America, her confidence in TSA has simply collapsed. And who can blame her?

In order to provide an illusion of security, we have made air travel impractical for nearly any trip that is less than a full day’s drive.

If you are satisfied with this, then by all means let’s put some new functionary in charge at the Transportation Security Administration without any further thought. If you see a problem here, then perhaps it’s time to re-think everything — including the TSA’s existence as we know it.

We have learned much recently about post-9/11 airport security policies. We do not have a system that failed — we have a system that is designed to fail.

Follow the link for Freddoso’s parade of horribles and see for yourself if he’s exaggerating. I’m on Hannity’s side insofar as I think that even semi-competently administered imaging is better than no imaging at all, but MM’s point about the big-picture failures here — starting with the State Department’s insane recklessness in handing out visas to people from “problem countries” — is the takeaway. Exit question: What’s the bigger surprise today, Michelle opposing extra screening or centrist David Frum pounding the table about profiling?

You want the scanner system to fail? Just bus in a messload of SEIU members into an airport.
1) They’ll barely fit between the scanners, if at all.
2) What does the security team do with all the vomit?

Neither do I, In fact, I will most certainly curtail even my small amount of flying these days if I have to endure that.

As usual I have the same concerns about WBI. I am in a management position within the aviation business and agree that WBI is another tool that can work when properly implemented.

In the Christmas Day incident, Schiphol have several WBI devices in use. However, communicating with a collegue at Schiphol, they are not allowed by the State Department to use them on U.S. citizens or those whose final destination is the within the U.S., Political Correctness misses again.

What is so often forgotten in the entire Security Program is to focus on who the enemy is and what they look like (especially since they choose not to wear a uniform).

Again, before implementing a new program within the DHS or TSA we, the public, have to have a higher level of confidence that the system works.

You know who had a bill pass the House, which was later dumped in committee, to preventing “handing out visas to people from problem countries?”

That’s right. Ron Paul.

The underwear bomber was successful. Hannity’s reaction is proof.

Free screening for kidney stones and gall stones. Save on free healthcare.

Why can’t there be two lines?

One line for people that are willing to submit to a more thorough but clothed) search.

Another line for the people that don’t have a problem with some nameless person in a room seeing an imaged outline of their ‘naked’ body.

Looking at the picture currently up on Drudge, I’m going to have to disagree.

This is a negative. Any photo program will reverse it, producing a beautiful full color, clear picture to be posted on the internet. TSA will of course, have that capability. Why all the lies about it?

This doesn’t surprize me why should we be punished with invasion of privacy way over the line invasion of privacy we are the victims of terrorist. So why would we let our Government victimize us on top of the terrorist attacking us?

Tell the Government to cover their butts on their own time :) And not use our security for their job security.
