Hidden-camera video: “Red Eye” goes inside the Media Matters offices

posted at 5:54 pm on January 6, 2010 by Allahpundit

A palate cleanser courtesy of, er, Media Matters. Easy prediction: There’ll be a sharp split in the comments between people who think this is hysterical and people who think it’s the dumbest thing evah. I’m in the first group, although I admit that at least half the laughs come from the surreal effect produced by the flat tone of that computer voice. Exit question: Is there any joke that isn’t instantly funnier when given the Xtranormal treatment?

Ha! Hysterical.

Easy prediction: There’ll be a sharp split in the comments between people who think this is hysterical and people who think it’s the dumbest thing evah.

What about people who thing it’s hysterical because it’s the dumbest thing evah?

malclave on January 6, 2010 at 5:58 PM

Media Matters = Pod People

Roy Rogers on January 6, 2010 at 5:58 PM

Bush, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, my father who never loved me… Its all the same

Holger on January 6, 2010 at 5:59 PM

BB and Decider.

csdeven on January 6, 2010 at 6:00 PM

I just looked to see who’s on Red Eye tonight. Looks like Michael Steele will have yet another opportunity to make a fool of himself.

Mark1971 on January 6, 2010 at 6:00 PM

I’m crying…

brewcrew67 on January 6, 2010 at 6:00 PM

Now, if someone will please do a spoof on the backdoor Congressional hearings on ObamaCare!

If this is all people see, they will recall it as real.

faraway on January 6, 2010 at 6:00 PM

It may have run a tad bit long, but it was definitely pretty hilarious.

OneGyT on January 6, 2010 at 6:01 PM

RedEye is still one of the best shows EVAH!

davek70 on January 6, 2010 at 6:01 PM

I dunno… those robots looked, and acted, a bit too manly for me to suspend disbelief and enjoy this bit of lib-tard theater.

Doorgunner on January 6, 2010 at 6:01 PM

Red Eye Robot Theater is a riot. I wish they’d post the links to the movies themselves somewhere, so we could watch them at Xtranormal.

Blacklake on January 6, 2010 at 6:01 PM

I’m in the first group,

same here

fourdeucer on January 6, 2010 at 6:03 PM

mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm Media Natters.

GnuBreed on January 6, 2010 at 6:03 PM

George Soros wishes he looked like that.

yogi41 on January 6, 2010 at 6:03 PM

HYSTERICAL! The flat voices make this oh so perfect.

“Now shave my back…”

cannonball on January 6, 2010 at 6:03 PM

I saw this yesterday night and anticipated all those libnuts roasting on an open fire by morning !
And they didn’t dissapoint

macncheez on January 6, 2010 at 6:03 PM

This is Classic. Red Eye is awesome.

portlandon on January 6, 2010 at 6:03 PM

everything red eye does is both stupid and funny. That’s why its a good show.

lorien1973 on January 6, 2010 at 6:03 PM

O/T….or “one for Media Matters”

Just now on MSNBC:

Matthews to Gene Robinson: How do you, (democrats), go home and take care of your constituents when they’re in the mood to throw you out of office?

Robinson: “You bring them money”

Rovin on January 6, 2010 at 6:04 PM

Red Eye is the kind of show I’m glad stays around. That other FOX News show…Half Hour News Hour…was horrible. Red Eye does it right. And funny!

JetBoy on January 6, 2010 at 6:07 PM

I love Red-eye’s Robot Theater.

It’s funny that xtranormal is being used in this way. If you look at their promo video they propose that you can make news commentary on something that pleases you (they show a cat with dollar bills) annoys you (Bill O’Reilly) or outrages you (Sara Palin shooting a gun).

LOL on xtranormal!

Axeman on January 6, 2010 at 6:10 PM

mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm Media Natters.

GnuBreed on January 6, 2010 at 6:03 PM

My choice is Media Spatters.

Axeman on January 6, 2010 at 6:11 PM

High-larious. But jeez, so sadly true.

Rational Thought on January 6, 2010 at 6:11 PM

I’m astonished MM posted it. Their commenter’s reaction is almost as funny as the video.

Laura on January 6, 2010 at 6:11 PM

everything red eye does is both stupid and funny. That’s why its a good show.

lorien1973 on January 6, 2010 at 6:03 PM

Yeah, pretty much. I thought this was better than most though. It made me laugh out loud a little. The only other Red Eye stuff that does that is when Greg makes sexual similes introducing guests.

Esthier on January 6, 2010 at 6:12 PM

I am crying! That is so funny.

HadithHarry on January 6, 2010 at 6:12 PM

I liked it.

Mortis on January 6, 2010 at 6:14 PM

Comedy gold over at MM:

by DAWUSS (8 hours and 6 minutes ago)
Who besides OlbermannWatch.com watches Red Eye?

And the response was this: Red Eye Resurgence: More Demo Viewers Watch Fox At 3am Than CNN at 8pm

Laura on January 6, 2010 at 6:15 PM

prima

what makes this kind of comedy work so well is the element of truth within

Janos Hunyadi on January 6, 2010 at 6:15 PM

Where’s Chris Matthews?

Cybergeezer on January 6, 2010 at 6:15 PM

Which one was simplesimon ?

macncheez on January 6, 2010 at 6:16 PM

I give 2 thumbs up.

Amadeus on January 6, 2010 at 6:16 PM

That was oddly hypnotizing.

- The Cat

P.S. When is Stephen Hawking ever going to get an upgrade to his text to speech. But all in all it is a testament to the staying power of the Sound Blaster 16

MirCat on January 6, 2010 at 6:18 PM

The nutroots hate nothing more than being made fun of. Their thin skin is their weakness. I wish all of Fox News made fun of them like this.

Speedwagon82 on January 6, 2010 at 6:18 PM

A palate cleanser indeed, hilarious! If it were short enough Fox would show it at the end of the panel.

scalleywag on January 6, 2010 at 6:19 PM

Their commenter’s reaction is almost as funny as the video.

Laura on January 6, 2010 at 6:11 PM

Odd that the only time something is funny, is when it is directed at anyone but them.

No sense of humor at all.

tru2tx on January 6, 2010 at 6:20 PM

CNN needs to do some “fact-checking” on this one!

macncheez on January 6, 2010 at 6:21 PM

Sorry, not funny…bleedsblue

right2bright on January 6, 2010 at 6:21 PM

This makes me very happy.

Jim Treacher on January 6, 2010 at 6:25 PM

I wish Soros was my father and mother, so he’d spank me and breast-feed me.

Now that’s funny, I don’t care who you are.

Holger on January 6, 2010 at 6:25 PM

Wow, I think I’ll buy stock in ‘LOTION’ tomorrow.

PappaMac on January 6, 2010 at 6:27 PM

Hysterical and dumb! It’s like having a floor cleaner and dessert topping in one! ob ref

RadClown on January 6, 2010 at 6:30 PM

Borderline hysterical!

Vigilante on January 6, 2010 at 6:30 PM

Now that was at the same time, disturbing, accurate, and funny.

LOL

sonofdy on January 6, 2010 at 6:31 PM

I thought is was pretty funny but now I cannot stop the line “It puts the lotion on” from going through my mind. I guess they are on par with a crazed serial killer, nah they have a higher body count in mind.

bluemarlin on January 6, 2010 at 6:31 PM

Oh man that was good stuff.

Love Red Eye, and not just cause they always have cute girls on.

The Notorious G.O.P on January 6, 2010 at 6:32 PM

The next time a troll starts in, just offer him some lotion.
Now, if I could only get the image of Andy Levy in a black thong out of my head……

HornetSting on January 6, 2010 at 6:33 PM

ha!

29Victor on January 6, 2010 at 6:33 PM

“What have you been doing besides sniffing your fingers?”

BBBWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAAH…!!!

Seven Percent Solution on January 6, 2010 at 6:35 PM

There’ll be a sharp split in the comments between people who think this is hysterical and people who think it’s the dumbest thing evah.

Why can’t it be both?

Best comment on MediaMatters.org (as always, all spelling errors preserved):

“I don’t have time to well this intire site. But I know that humor is subjective. It’s just that this stuff is lame.”

calbear on January 6, 2010 at 6:38 PM

hahahhaha

becki51758 on January 6, 2010 at 6:41 PM

CNN fact-checked the video and found no one at Media Matters is nearly as manly and that is not just “lotion” but rather Eau du Turkish Baths hair removal cream.

jcrue on January 6, 2010 at 6:44 PM

Now, if someone will please do a spoof on the backdoor Congressional hearings on ObamaCare!

If this is all people see, they will recall it as real.

faraway on January 6, 2010 at 6:00 PM

Nah. You wouldn’t even be able to show it on HBO, Showtime, etc. It would have to be on PPV exclusively. On the other hand, cha-ching.

TQM38a on January 6, 2010 at 6:48 PM

Even I thought it was funny.

Attila (Pillage Idiot) on January 6, 2010 at 6:58 PM

I recommend everyone search for the other Xtranormal clips from Red Eye… although unless you’re a fan of the show, they probably won’t be that funny.

RightWinged on January 6, 2010 at 7:00 PM

what a hoot.
dry to the groin humor.
media matters is funny.

jimmer on January 6, 2010 at 7:01 PM

Exit question: Is there any joke that isn’t instantly funnier when given the Xtranormal treatment?

Nope.

For gun nuts. Content warning.

Another content warning.

MadisonConservative on January 6, 2010 at 7:08 PM

When do we get to see the robots ?

J_Crater on January 6, 2010 at 7:09 PM

These are all of the Red eye robot scenes…

chicagotrauma on January 6, 2010 at 7:09 PM

It’s funny, but they’ve been doing this gag for awhile now, so it’s starting to get stale. They’ll probably abandon it before long.

Emily M. on January 6, 2010 at 7:10 PM

Eh.

The Ugly American on January 6, 2010 at 7:12 PM

Freaking hilarious!

CP on January 6, 2010 at 7:16 PM

Some funny quotes but holy cow the delivery sucked donkey bleep.

American Elephant on January 6, 2010 at 7:18 PM

Freakin hilarious, I just love the Soros stuff. I will party hard when old George Soros dies. I have never celebrated anyones death but I will when he dies.

royzer on January 6, 2010 at 7:19 PM

Computer animation only makes you look current and hip if its not done on a Commodore 64

American Elephant on January 6, 2010 at 7:19 PM

Funny!

foxforce91 on January 6, 2010 at 7:22 PM

Anyone who does not think this is funny must believe in the fairy tale of “the most open and transparent administration evah!” LMAO

(For other humor, check out the link by clicking on my name)

BigAlSouth on January 6, 2010 at 7:37 PM

Media Matters employees – people without a life.

docdave on January 6, 2010 at 7:45 PM

Replace Shepherd Smith with RedEye. Ratings winner!

SouthernGent on January 6, 2010 at 8:29 PM

I had to keep saying to myself:

“Its not real, its just a cartoon…it’s not real, its just a cartoon…..”

It’s a fine between reality and fantasy.

BobMbx on January 6, 2010 at 8:54 PM

I reckon I fall into the category of laughed my ass off. More accurately, I was laughing AT Media Matters and its mindless automatons.

I especially liked the voice used for David. That was the voice of the HAL 9000 from 2001 Space Odyssey – any minute I was expecting the other guy to try and stuff Soylent Green brand Tofu down David’s throat, saying “open the pod bay doors HAL!”

CatchAll on January 6, 2010 at 9:43 PM

You want hilarious……. now this is freakin’ funny.

The Ugly American on January 6, 2010 at 10:03 PM

Flatly hilarious. Or is it hilariously flat.

rrpjr on January 6, 2010 at 10:21 PM

I always look forward to Robot Theater on Red Eye. One of the most bizarre and hilarious bits they have going. And it always comes back to the lotion.

Dongemaharu on January 6, 2010 at 11:11 PM

Hilarious! Now I’ll have to Tivo the show.

PattyJ on January 6, 2010 at 11:23 PM

Time for “Red Eye” the Movie. Throw in Xtranormal in 3D for that real life Avatar feel.

serendip2b on January 7, 2010 at 12:05 AM

Why does George Soros not look like a troll?

Squiggy on January 7, 2010 at 6:33 AM

Media Matters—FOUNDED BY NWO GLOBAL KINGPIN GEORGE SOROS!

BobAnthony on January 7, 2010 at 7:19 AM

So now we know what SimpleSimon and Norman Blitzers lives are like.

conservnut on January 7, 2010 at 7:25 AM

Fox needs to move Red Eye to an earlier time!!!!! Move Beck into Shep’s time, drop Shep, Red Eye behind Greta’s 1st show, and then re-run the shows.

yoda on January 7, 2010 at 7:36 AM

Wrong again AP. It’s all totally and completely hilarious. As I’ve said before, Greg Gutfeld: God of all that is seen and unseen.

WordsMatter on January 7, 2010 at 8:44 AM

Funny, but it would have been better if they had added the NAMBLA posters and the anatomically correct Pol Pot doll that adorns their basement, errr, office.

PimFortuynsGhost on January 7, 2010 at 9:27 AM

There’ll be a sharp split in the comments between people who think this is hysterical and people who think it’s the dumbest thing evah.

Saw it when it aired and I thought it was hilarious.

BlueStateBilly on January 7, 2010 at 9:58 AM

I think I love reading the comments at Media Matters even more; it’s like observing a car wreck, you want to look away but you just can’t. These people are like aliens.

gator70 on January 7, 2010 at 10:08 AM

I’ll get the lotion.

pseudonominus on January 7, 2010 at 10:38 AM

I thought it was pretty funny. I once heard a text-to-speech rendering of a woman in flagrante delicto and the effect was hilarious.

mr.blacksheep on January 7, 2010 at 10:42 AM

That shows the TRUE ROBITIC nature of these brain dead left wing idiots! The entire planet would be better off if these people returned to the Twilight Zone from whence they came!

Confederate on January 7, 2010 at 12:44 PM

Glenn Beck played it on his radio show. Too funny.
