Great news: Terrorist recidivism rate at Gitmo now 20%, up six points from last year
posted at 9:07 pm on January 6, 2010 by Allahpundit
Remember, those Yemeni detainees are only being held back “right now.” They’ll be going home soon enough.
See if you can guess the White House spin on this before proceeding. Here’s a hint: It’s the same spin they use with every political problem they have.
Two U.S. officials confirm to ABC News that the number of released detainees suspected of or confirmed to have returned to terrorist activities has risen to 20 percent. They would not provide the raw numbers on which the percentages are based. A U.S. official tells ABC News that the most recent report was completed in late December…
The first publicly released Pentagon analysis of the recidivism rates of former Guantanamo detainees, released in December 2008, showed the recidivism rate was 11 percent. That number trended upward to 14 percent when the second report was released in May, 2009…
A White House official told ABC News, “We have been presented with no information that suggests that any of the detainees transferred by this administration have returned to the fight…
Approximately 90 of the remaining 198 detainees at Guantanamo are from Yemen. President Obama said Tuesday that no more detainees would be returned to that country following recent terror threats there, as well as connections to the recent underwear bomber plot.
I’m not sure what they mean by that “blame Bush” boldfaced part. Is the insinuation that Bush officials were too comparatively stupid to know a recidivist when they saw one? Or is this more of an MSNBC-esque conspiracy accusation that the Bushies knew some of these guys were likely to take up arms again and yet they freed them anyway? A word to the wise in the White House: If you’re going to greenlight the release of people like Qais Khazali, whose pockets are lined with Iranian money and whose hands are stained with American blood, be very, very careful about pointing fingers. Especially when you’ve released half a dozen Yemeni Gitmo detainees within the past three weeks. The odds say at least one of them will be back on the field trying to kill Americans again soon. What’s the excuse then?
Exit question: Why would Obama officials leak this very damning info? Is it a backhand way of trying to stir support for his plan to transfer detainees to Illinois, where they’ll at least remain imprisoned?

Man I’m so glad The One was there to unclench all those fists. Just imagine how many more there would be if he hadn’t done all he could to kiss their collective asses? Man we are lucky to have such a glorious leader out front in these troubled times.

Musta been something Obama said in Cairo?
coldwarrior on January 6, 2010 at 9:11 PM
I saw somewhere today they closed that prison down in IL so the government can take it over. I’d guess that the terrorist will be transfered there and then we’ll really have terror issues. I can’t see the ACLU having terrorist sitting in a prison on US soil and not being tried. Zero said he’s not going to let them go. What’s he going to do with them. Will they be part of the Amnesty bill to that will be shoved down our throats?

I don’t think that Obowma realized why these chaps were in Gitmo in the first place…
… Maybe reading and believing all those ‘Leftist’ talking points without checking out the true facts nor visiting Gitmo in person as Commander in Chief wasn’t a good idea after all.
Who knew…?
Well, I am sure the loved one’s of the soon to be dead will understand.

I think they are hoping the next attacker will be blue-eyed with blondish hair.

I think that’s pretty close to it, esp. since that jives so well with that presser he gave after getting his hair dyed, er, after vacation, wherein he spoke the introit “let me be clear”, declaring that GITMO will be closed.

The whole point of closing Gitmo was because Obama and his minions say that the place is a powerful recruiting tool for Al Qaida. I would just like to point out to those morons that AQ will just use Illinois as the next new recruiting “tool”. Plus, as a bonus, terrorists are already in Chicago waiting to liberate or at least revenge their imprisoned jihadi brethren.
Gitmo had no connection to any particular U.S. city or state before. I fear Illinois will reap what they’ve sown by electing Obama and supporting moving terrorists there.

Obama cares more about, what he perceives as, their rights than he does about US citizens lives.
Alden Pyle on January 6, 2010 at 9:24 PM
Do you think 20% will even phase them? Recidivism in child molesters is something like 98% and they fight for them to be set loose all the time. I would not doubt that he wants public opinion to help him move them to the U.S. that way he can say the courts let them loose. Present!

Apparently 20% of Gitmo were denied the opportunity to hear the ‘Cairo Speech’ and will cease and desist all animosity toward the U.S. as soon as they as blessed to hear it.

The part of the question that has yet to be answered — what happens if detainees are sent to Illinois…and a) found not guilty by a jury; b) found to have insufficient evidence to prove their guilt? Obama and Holder have already stated that if they are acquitted and “still pose a threat” they will remain in custody.
Stepping away for a moment that these are trained killers whom nobody wants, not even Yemen, if one can believe Yemen’s recent statements and actions against AQAP, does it bother anyone that Obama will have set legal precedence in that an “innocent” person (in the purely legal sense) will be kept locked up indefinitely, perhaps for years and years, after acquittal?
Talk about walking all over the Constitution in muddy boots.
If even one detainee is acquitted and kept in custody for so much as a few days or a few years…what will be the result? For all Americans?
Once government can confine somebody, anybody, otherwise “innocent (in the legal sense) what is to prevent government at any point in the future from locking up other “innocents?”
What if one is not a Moslem jihadist extremist? How about if one is a pissed off Conservative who has inspired others to stand up to government? To merely question government and governance?
Once we have crossed that line…the unintended consequences could be a threat to the very fabric of our Constitutional republic.
And a very severe threat to anyone who dissents.
The Soviet Union did this for most of their history. Can we be closer to that day, here, in America, closer than any would have imagined even a year ago?
Smart people often are not all that smart. Intellectuals have been responsible for far more deaths in history than most can understand.
OK, back to the regularly scheduled topic.
coldwarrior on January 6, 2010 at 9:32 PM
Even Bush shouldn’t have sent a single one of them back.
If you’re at war, captured enemy must remain in your possession if and until that war ends.
If you can’t handle that concept, then kill them before capture.
The goal is simple. Minimize the population of those who would kill your own troops or people.
This ain’t volleyball.

The piece below is worth saving/bookmarking. It also shows the futility of negotiating with Muslims.
The article is very long, but fully explains how taqiyya is employed in Muslim warfare. And, make no mistake, the Muslims are at war with us infidels.

But we are smart enough to send them to IL!
What a great idea:
Three prisoners, who officials described as armed and dangerous, escaped Wednesday from an Illinois prison.

Naw, they figured it would come out sooner or later … So when are you going to report on the destruction of the Bush era anti-terror measures? Isn’t the fact that the panty bomber got his bomb on the plane proof of that?
tarpon on January 6, 2010 at 9:47 PM
BTW, Obama didn’t leak it. It came out of the Pentagon:
RT @bostonherald: Pentagon: One in five terror suspects released from Gitmo return to fight http://bit.ly/7XKdmO
TheBigOldDog on January 6, 2010 at 9:54 PM
Remember, the ones released so far were those judged least likely to re-offend. The ones left at Gitmo are considered more hardcore.

This is somewhat off-topic, too, but related to your point. I am in the midst of reading Ann Coulter’s (well-documented with primary source material) Treason. The fact that both FDR and Truman allowed Soviet agents and spies to infiltrate our government and sensitive areas in policy is an eye-opener. Joe McCarthy was right. The Soviet cables translated through the Venona Project (much against the wishes of our powers-that-were at the time) demonstrate how riddled with traitors our government has been. Eastern Europe and the Chinese Nationalists were sold out while “well-educated” and politically connected traitors were courting Uncle Joe Stalin.
Now we have Muslims infiltrating our government (again in sensitive areas). Who knows how they are shaping policy or undermining our country? Taqiyya, described fully above in another link, the subtle allowance of sharia law, and political correctness will lead to our destruction.

I am with you, we can return them to a location that is on the next drone attack list, he has no problem killing people with drones on foreign soil. We should take advantage of one of the good things he does do. We can provide water sports on the plane ride over and then an extreme ride called HALO and when they land, BOOM, taste my hellfire.

BTW, it was the liberal leftist groups, the democrat party, and the ACLU (but i repeat myself, repeat myself) that put so much political and legal pressure Bush was forced to release some.

The exit question reminds me of a scene from the movie “Hunt for Red October”.
Specifically the scene when the Russian sub commander removes all the safety devices from his torpedoes because he can’t destory the Red October.
Once he does that the Russian commander fires again. He is out maneuvered and gets blow up by his own torpedoes. The quote from the Russian weapons officer is classic. “You killed us you arrogant a**.” just before they impode under the ocean.
I wonder how many Dems are whispering that weapons officer’s quote to themselves right now about Obama. My hunch is a lot more than we realize!

After the news about how DHS struggles with info/power sharing and these 3 escapees from an Illinois Fed Detention center I am really NOT looking forward to seeing how the power sharing works between the military and the regular prison staff when Thomson opens regarding the detainees and the other prison inmates. Just not looking forward to it at all.

It’s desensitization before the next attack.
If the Administration puts it out now, then as Americans are burning in the streets, they can say they “knew” about the problem.

And Obama can say that WE knew about it–passing the buck.
Interesting to note that Obama blames Americans for our troubles, and expects Americans to be responsible for themselves when it comes to terrorism, because Big Brother won’t protect national security. Obama’s next convoluted opposite game move following a terrorist strike is to arrest every American who makes a common sense response.
