New MSNBC theory: Maybe U.S. intel deliberately withheld info on Flight 253 from each other

posted at 9:10 pm on January 5, 2010 by Allahpundit

John Gibson and Ace read this as Olby’s way of hinting that dark elements within U.S. intelligence tried to hurt Obama politically by intentionally letting an attack happen, but I don’t think that’s what he and Wolffe are getting at. It’s all very murky and breathless and seasoned with sensational references to White House sources, but I think what they’re suggesting is that there was some kind of turf war between different agencies — which has been known to happen, even recently — that might have led one agency to be greedy with its intel. (Remember, the CIA reportedly failed to circulate the record of its chat with Abdulmutallab’s father.) Or rather, that’s probably what Wolffe’s White House sources were trying to suggest to him and he blew it up into some sort of sinister “conspiracy” against America or whatever. If you follow the Gibson link and listen to the clip, it sounds like he ended up walking this back very soon thereafter on Maddow’s show. The obvious question no one asked here: If any of this is even remotely true, how come U.S. intel did such a good job coordinating when they busted the New York City subway mega-plot in the fall?

Either way, do note that the strong-form conspiracy theory about shadowy forces using Flight 253 to ruin Obama is indeed being circulated among the left’s dimmer lights.

yeah sure, it’s a vast conspiracy when you fail, and its a vast conspiracy when you are incompetent. That is, unless George Bush can be directly implicated, then, of course, it’s all his fault.

d1carter on January 5, 2010 at 9:17 PM

If Wolffe is “walking it back” how did they not introduce the idea in the first place? That’s clearly what Olbermann was hinting at, albeit he married it to the notion of inter-agency beefs. Wolffe played ball until he got a call from the West Wing then “walked it back” on Maddow.

AYNBLAND on January 5, 2010 at 9:17 PM

This is patently absurd. The intel agencies are RIFE with unrepentant liberals. Almost to a fault. Trust me on this one, there was no turf war shennanigans. If anything fusion of the intelligence in a timely manner is the culprit. It is extremely difficult to pool all resources into one product quickly.

And if the government can’t do this efficiently, do we really want them to run health care for 300 million people. Sheesh, wake up people!

Am I the only one disturbed by the volume of MSNBC posts on Hot Air? I know Allahpundit has some unexplained hatred for Beck who is talking about important things no one else is, and pulling ratings unheard of on cable news at 5 (or even in prime time for the other networks). Knowing the ratings he pulls, wouldn’t it be wise to show his clips here?

Instead we’re bludgeoned with clips from a network no one watches. Why does a premier conservative blog even give them this undeserved attention? I mean, MSNBC is failing on it’s own… why not let them just fade? Why give them attention this regularly? I get the occassional “thrill up the leg” clip, etc…. but it’s becoming a bit much, especially when conservative cable news clips seem few and far between.

rickyricardo on January 5, 2010 at 9:42 PM

It is certified assclowns like Olbermann and the equally vile Ed Schultz that reinforce my theory that MSNBC recruits all its talk show host talent from the local insane asylums.

How else do you explain Olbermann coming up with an absolutely wacked-out theory bordering on psychosis that intelligence deliberately withheld information on the latest attempted terrorist attack just so as to make B.O. look bad?

There were innocent people on that plane when that moron set-off his undies bomb. I have a very hard time believing intelligence would have allowed those people to be there while knowing that nutcase was there ready to blow himself and that plane into next Tuesday.

If anything, this is further proof that Olbermann belongs less in front of a camera spewing his gas, and belongs more wrapped in a straitjacket and bouncing himself off the walls of a rubber room!

History 101

1. Democrat politician (later VP and President) Lyndon Johnson was married to the evil Halliburton family of companies starting in 1936-6 years before Darth Cheney was even born. He later as President made millions from the no-bid deals he gave them during his War of Choice in Vietnam, and his widow sat on their Board until she kicked the bucket a couple of years ago.

2. Democrat pResident Bill Clintoon gave Halliburton no-bid contracts during his non-UN-sanctioned War of Choice-you remember that war, he promised our troops would be home “By Christmas”, but left out the year. He’s an unusually good liar, y’know?

3. Current (Democrat) VP Uncle Joe Biden has exactly the same number of Draft Deferrments (5) as Cheney does. Of course, that’s a badge of honor, as long as you follow the Party Line.

Finger pointing, conspiracy theories and eating their own have been a hallmark of the left for nearly a century — when something goes wrong, it can never be their problem or a problem with their system, because they’re just too darn smart to have something like that happen.

All that’s missing right now is a total split between the near and far left, each blaming the other for the policy failures, and the appropriate show trials to punish the people really responsible for their troubles (though if Eric Holder has his way, the CIA interrogators will eventually fill that bill).

The National Intelligence Estimate of 2007 (NIE) that said Iran wasn’t making a bomb was a clear example of parts of the intelligence community working against BUSH. The current White House has admitted that report was flawed, the foreign intelligence services of Europe nearly fell over backwards at the brazenly wrong conclusion and political meaning behind it.

There is your example Olberman, you tool.

scotash on January 6, 2010 at 3:28 AM

Here’s a comparison: I have the t.v. on.—For the third time I am looking at the movie, “L.A. Confidential”—it is tedious to a fault. Then there is is Oscar winning performance of the “girl whisperer”—Kim Bassinger—she has almost zero lines in entire movie, yet, wins the award for “best-supporting actress”. Okay, take similarities at your free will, but, in my
right-winged, red-necked opinion thinks that the movie stinks to begin with, and, this Bassinger somebody is as stupid as the movie itself. BUT, somehow, it won awards.

betsyz on January 6, 2010 at 3:53 AM

While not watching olberman ever, I can tell you what is behind the undie bomber fiasco.

Eric Holder. Holder’s justice department is sitting between the cia and homeland security protecting the rights of every terrorist in the world!

This is was not an accident or a mistake. This is the Holder/Obama plan for the US becoming a more benign, friendly, and non-racist place.

We are being managed by IDIOTS at most EVERY level in this Obama administration.

Freddy on January 6, 2010 at 4:26 AM

The obvious question no one asked here: If any of this is even remotely true, how come U.S. intel did such a good job coordinating when they busted the New York City subway mega-plot in the fall?

Domestic terrorism involves local JTF’s and LEO’s, who tend to be less politically driven than the DC crowd. The CIA may take credit for the first alert in the NYC plot, but I’d bet the perps were already on the local intel radars.

The Fort Hood shooter is domestic, but he’s in the military’s bailiwick, and thus another preventable DC political screw-up.

Mr. Ogreman is such a leftist that he cannot stand U.S.. He appears in muddled thought as he tries to slam Centralized Government control that is the essence of the left’s control of our lives.

Again Mr. Ogreman, and his hand chosen guest, continue to blame Bush and his policies on all of the current problems facing U.S.. But, ironically the current administration appears to have accepted them as reliable (because they have not made any substantial changes to improve them).

Also, it is noteworthy that during this interview and comment Mr. Ogreman appeared quite tongue tied. As toastmaster, I would have to say that Mr. Ogreman was trying to hide something or did not actually believe, with conviction (which I would like to see him) what he was saying.
