NPR ‘toon: “Learn to speak teabag”

posted at 8:26 pm on January 4, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Ace, who wants you to see what your tax dollars are being used for. Ironically, NPR’s reputation for liberal bias means that I don’t listen, which leaves me unqualified to say just how biased this is. Are there token conservatives there to “balance” stuff like this? Or do people like Fiore, who skews sufficiently left to have had his stuff featured in the Village Voice, have the run of the place? This toon’s from November, incidentally; his latest one, published on New Year’s Eve, attacks Obama for … not being liberal enough. So there’s your balance, I guess.

In fairness, this isn’t the worst use of my tax dollars that I’ve seen today. Exit question: After the past eight years, should leftists really be so quick to mock people for tossing around the word “Nazi” lightly? Click the image to watch.

Keep up the ridicule, Lefties. It works wonders.

That and their voices are hella annoying.

Funny. I thought liberals and NPR made it cool to call a president a nazi. After all, I heard it from them for most of Bush’s presidency. Oh, the irony!

NPR is a pure left wing entity whose sole mission in life is to provide propaganda support to the current Marxist regime . . . let’s stop pretending that it has any other purpose.

rplat on January 4, 2010 at 8:43 PM

They (a majority of liberals/progressives, in my observation) have no idea that they are both extremist, and offensive, in their dismissal of other viewpoints.

It’s the Kael effect (after critic Pauline Kael, who couldn’t understand Nixon win in 1972, because “no one I know voted for him.”)

They most often read/listen/watch from a limited repertoire of material. If you only get your news from the NY Times (or it’s local equivalent,) NPR, and PBS, you will, axiomatically, only get one side of the story.

Most conservatives I know at least try to read/watch/listen to a variety of sources…

I mostly only listen to it on the weekends for Car Talk and What Do Ya Know? but of what I’ve heard of the “news” programming, I’d say this about sums it up.

My far, far, extremely far left cousin loves NPR. She likes to say that she never knew the truth until she began listening to NPR.

I, myself, can’t click the linky because I have the worst internet in the history of internet and can’t watch things that move! But I am sure that it is very educational and speaks the truth (in bizzaro world).

That’s disgusting. I can’t believe they waste money on crap like that.

I remember listening to NPR programming during the Israeli-Hezballah thing and there were at least 6 things they said that were historically inaccurate.

I guess making a cartoon only a 12 year old boy would find witty is par for course then.

And if one more person refers to another who happens to disagree with them politically as a “Nazi”, I swear I’m ripping his a** off.

Keep calling us “teabaggers.” Keep using a slang term for “scrotum sucker” as a synonym for “fed-up taxpayer.” Keep calling us that, while ignoring the rather interesting school curriculum ideas of our current “Safe School Czar,” for example. Yeah, you’ll win back those independents, damn right you will. Because I’m just SO SURE those independents harbor just as much hatred and bigotry against regular people as you do.

ZK on January 4, 2010 at 8:58 PM

I can remember when there was actually a time when NPR stood for excellence and quality, a place where one could go for both entertainment and enrichment.

Unfortunately, somewhere between that time back then and where we are now, something went terribly, terribly wrong.

These days, I won’t even tune into NPR to get a weather report. It has been reduced to a liberally mean spirited, left-slanted cesspool.

Juan Williams is the Senior Political Analyst who gets the most play, which is a serious improvement over Daniel Schorr. Anyway, At NPR Juan is about as balanced as they get, which is not saying much. Sometimes an interviewee gets opportunity to capsulize the conservative position, but most of the on-air talent are obvious lefties.

My radio is set to NPR in the am and Hewitt in the pm. NPR practices agenda journalism, pushing their information and opinion template and trying to ignore stories that do not fit it. Hewitt is more balanced in allowing opposing arguments to be aired and understood whenever someone of note is willing to come on the show to explain and defend.

This is why “Air Amerika” failed. It’s hard to compete against a network of taxpayer funded nonprofit 50,000 watt FM taxwastes when all you can get is the 4th-5th best AM signal in the market. That is assuming the product on the air is equal or better, and given their collection of harpies and beta male hosts, they weren’t.

I listen sometimes during the morning commute. I get a kick out of their trying really hard to put a positive spin on the economy now, after telling us for the last 3 years of the Bush admin that we’re going to hell. “The Association of Ambidextrous Red-Haired Retailers has reported the third straight week of growth in inventories, signaling that the economic recovery may indeed be well under way…”

Cylor on January 4, 2010 at 9:52 PM

It’s NPR.

ddrintn on January 4, 2010 at 9:55 PM

Not to sound naive, but do we even know NPR actually paid for this? NPR operates on a different copyright structure than the private sector, plus I wouldn’t be surprised if this fellow gave it away for kicks and publicity. It’d seem awfully odd for a radio network to pay for visual content. They probably just rubber-stamp stuff he sends their way, and no one there probably realized that “tea bag” was an innuendo-laden epithet rather than a self-identifying term. After today, they’ll probably know better (and hopefully act appropriately).

Right before the Iraq war,NPR was talking to a correspondent in Syria(yeah i listen once in awhile and happened to hear this live). He said he saw non-stop miles of Tractor trailers coming in from Iraq, offloading huge containers.
After all the lefty accusations started flying around, how no WMD’s were found, and (they claim) were never in Iraq,i contacted NPR’s website archive(supposedly they will help you find anything)to get that audio. No response.I wonder why.

Because it’s not a media organization’s job to do your homework for you? Try such a vague, stale request with Fox News and see if you get any further. I doubt you will.

However, I must say that NPR’s bias in 2009 has been very bothersome to me. Earlier, it seemed more moderated and also appropriate considering who was in power. Now they inviting slanderous hatchet-men like Mark Blumenthal onto Fresh Air to help listeners “understand” the evil ways of Republicans (not to mention Jews in Israel). And their “media watchdog” far more often has stuff about how the media aren’t hard enough on conservatives and are easy on liberals, rather than vice versa. However, to their credit, they will put balance on when it’s offered; but as their most prolific stations are in aqua blue areas, they necessarily have some blinders when it comes to these issues.

Oh, and to answer your question, today’s NPR opinion page has an opinion piece from the National Review Online: “If Democratic members listen to the American voters over the holidays, we might succeed in short order. But if the Democrats follow through on their apparent willingness to take the journey down Hillarycare Road to electoral suicide, we will likely succeed in the next two elections. Either way, we can prevail.” That’s probably as anathema to die-hard progressives as this cartoon is to any self-respecting fiscal conservative.
