Harry Reid 2006: I hate when people try to sneak secret special deals into important Senate bills without debate

posted at 9:43 pm on January 4, 2010 by Allahpundit

Yeah, we’re all pretty broken up about it. He’s also a big fan of conference committees here, as you’ll see, which is really just the cherry on a dreck sundae.

GOP underperforming in November = downer. GOP underperforming in November and this tool squeaking out a victory = disaster.

Blowback

Lindsay Graham.

Olympia Snowe.

Susan Collins.

John McCain.

Chuck Grassley.

Richard Lugar.

Lamar Alexander.

Judd Gregg (who, but the way, is pushing a bill for a “bipartisan commission” that will deal with the growing deficits. It will recommend ways to cut the deficit. Basically, to give the Dems cover to raise taxes, including a VAT. The comission’s recommendations would have to be adopted as a whole or rejected as a whole.)

It’s as if Reid knows that the Main Stream Media won’t pick this up and run with it for the next year like someone saying Macaca? Makaka? Macaque? or Mohawk……..?

Oh, wait!

I will probably be moving from Nevada this year, but I won’t have a new legal residence until after November.

I promise.

Saltysam on January 4, 2010 at 10:33 PM

I hate to say it….But, I’m going to anyway. The good people of Nevada have ONE more opportunity to prove to us all that they hate corrupt politicians. And this man is the walking, talking, breathing definition of corrupt, hypocritical, professional politician who needs to kicked to the curb in disgrace.

Another Good Reason For Term Limits!

The following is my proposal for congressional “Term Limits”:
Congressional Reform Act of 2010
1. Term Limits: options below.
Two Six year Senate terms
Three Two year House terms
One Six year Senate term and Three Two Year House terms

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

2. No Tenure / No Pension:
A congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.
3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security:
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund moves to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan just as all Americans.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress looses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
7. Congress must equally abide in all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.
The American people did not make this contract with congressmen, congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

xler8bmw on January 4, 2010 at 10:42 PM

To add a bit to your post, they should have to sign a piece of paper to acknowledge all of this. If they are caught breaking the law, everything is on the table, including all salary they have received while in Washington. If they cannot pay, all of their assets are up for grabs and they acknowledge they could leave their wife and kids on the street while serving jail time, which many more politicians need to be doing right now. If there are no serious consequences we will not change anything.

bluemarlin on January 4, 2010 at 10:54 PM

You all have probably seen the latest email going around:

Take a look at this and just remember the elections in Nov. 2010.

Our U.S. House & Senate have voted themselves $4,700 and $5,300 in raises.

1. Then they voted to not give you a S.S. Cost of living raise in 2010 and 2011.

2. Your Medicaid premiums will go up $285.60 for the 2-years and You will not get the 3% COLA: $660/yr. Your total 2-yr loss and cost is-$1,600 or -$3,200 for husband and wife.

3. Over 2-yrs they each get $10,000

4. Do you feel SCREWED?

5. Will they stop your cost of drugs – doctor fees – local taxes – food, etc., from increasing? NO WAY . They have a raise and better benefits. Why care about you? You never did anything about it in the past. They think you are obviously too stupid or don’t care.

6. Do you really think that Nancy, Harry, Chris, Charlie, Barnie, et al, care about you?

IN 2010 YOU WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO GET RID OF THE SITTING CONGRESS:
Up to 1/3 OF THE SENATE, AND 100% (?) OF THE HOUSE.

MAKE SURE YOU’RE STILL MAD IN NOVEMBER 2010 AND REMIND THEIR REPLACEMENTS NOT TO SCREW UP.

It is ok to forward this to your sphere of influence if you are finally tired of the abuse.

Maybe it’s finally time for:
Amendment 28

“Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the
United States.”

Let’s get this passed around, folks – these people in Washington have brought this upon themselves!!! It’s time for retribution. Let’s take back America.

And I hate old left-wing douchebags who think they’re smarter than everyone else. Bye bye Harry! :)

It seems to me that these words should be proof positive of the treasonist aspects of this Congress. When out of power, this is how they talk. When in power, “shut the f*ck up”.

What I truly have so much problem with is figuring out why these folks hate our Constitution so much. They seemingly do not understand that it is the source of our strength.

I guess I keep hoping that even one or two of our Congressmen will wake up and realize that they have gone far beyond their mandates to represent us. Surely 60% of our representation has not lost sight of our founding principles?

GnuBreed on January 5, 2010 at 1:30 AM

What an unashamed hypocrite. It was nice to see the title “minority leader ” under his name. Let’s do him one better Nevada. “Harry Reid ex-senator from Nevada”.

bluestateconservative on January 5, 2010 at 1:47 AM

Give the guy a break. It’s hard balancing Socialist ideology while at the same time bilking the American people and feathering your own nest. Oh, just think of the internal moral conflicts going on!

Reid’s such an a$$^%#$@@!

One more, in an almost infinite list of examples of how Liberalism = Hypocrisy.

As for Republicans, they’re hopeless and hapless. It will be up to us individual conservative Americans to take the country back.

Why doesn’t someone quote McCaskill- about Bush AND about spitting into Romney’s earpiece?

What is wrong with these people?

Why am I only seeing stuff like this on Hot Air, and not on a national media buy from the RNC? Don’t they realize that, if they want to take Congress back, they need to be proactive?
