“You Lie”

It sums up Obama’s first year.

katy on December 31, 2009 at 9:34 PM

Dude needs to put down the pipe…

Seven Percent Solution on December 31, 2009 at 9:34 PM

This is unprecedented. *haha

That’s really my fave.

AnninCA on December 31, 2009 at 9:34 PM

In honor of Rush.

rob verdi on December 31, 2009 at 9:35 PM

I was rather partial to Skippy’s…

“Yeah, I’ll speak with yo mama outside.”

swede7 on December 31, 2009 at 9:36 PM

I voted B+. On second thought “You Lie” will probably live in infamy.

Guardian on December 31, 2009 at 9:37 PM

“We did this for a show.”

Mark1971 on December 31, 2009 at 9:37 PM

Kudos to whoever coined the term “Liar in Chief,” because it fits so well. He is the grandest liar of all, but he is well staffed with supporting liars.

GaltBlvnAtty on December 31, 2009 at 9:37 PM

In honor of Rush, I voted for “I hope he fails”. Because I do and it still seems to annoy the Left. I do love the Climategate story though. Thank you Whistleblower.

Cindy Munford on December 31, 2009 at 9:37 PM

You forgot “Waterloo”

ThackerAgency on December 31, 2009 at 9:38 PM

How about: “Uh, we, uh, inherited [insert whatever evasion you wish]“- I nominate this doozy.

theenforser on December 31, 2009 at 9:38 PM

I still like:

“…acted stupidly…”

bernzright777 on December 31, 2009 at 9:38 PM

As I’ve said…..

uuuhh huhhh aaaahhh uhmm as I have always said uuughh

dragondrop on December 31, 2009 at 9:39 PM

Quite a few influenced domestic policy, but “hide the decline” stopped both cap and trade and Copenhagen.

txhsmom on December 31, 2009 at 9:39 PM

Yeah, happy new year to you too buddy.

ThackerAgency on December 31, 2009 at 9:39 PM

Brevity is the soul of wit. “You lie” says it all.

Ted Torgerson on December 31, 2009 at 9:39 PM

Barack Hussein Obama
mmm mmm mmmm

txag92 on December 31, 2009 at 9:40 PM

In honor of Rush.

rob verdi on December 31, 2009 at 9:35 PM

Megadittos.

IrishEi on December 31, 2009 at 9:40 PM

I voted “I won” because it was a stunning remark that showed the arrogance and partisanship of the new president, who ran on a promise of bipartisanship. He then proceeded to hold closed door meetings and blame the GOP for all the problems he inherited and told them to “get a mop”, “get out of the way” and other juvenile statements. Class act, Mr. President. “You lie” would have been my second choice, because, well, he has.

scalleywag on December 31, 2009 at 9:41 PM

“Boom…Taste my night stick”. even though it is a quote of someone quoting someone else.

Hellrider on December 31, 2009 at 9:43 PM

You lie! you worthless incompetent socialist POS! I hope you fail. Merry New Year! and F Obama!

elduende on December 31, 2009 at 9:43 PM

I hope (his policies) fail!!!

Rush,I hope you get better,in the meantime,

katy on December 31, 2009 at 9:34 PM

Yup

javamartini on December 31, 2009 at 9:43 PM

In the absence of “wee-wee’d up”, I vote for “you lie.”

VanPalin on December 31, 2009 at 9:43 PM

Quite a few influenced domestic policy, but “hide the decline” stopped both cap and trade and Copenhagen.

txhsmom on December 31, 2009 at 9:39 PM

That is exactly why I voted for that quote too.

HawaiiLwyr on December 31, 2009 at 9:43 PM

He LIES!!!

get well soon Rush…

Vntnrse on December 31, 2009 at 9:44 PM

“jobs created or saved.”

ThePrez on December 31, 2009 at 9:44 PM

“You lie” and “I hope he fails” are close ties.
“I hope he fails”, though, has longevity, or staying power.
It sort of has a “comes full circle” quality about it. I’m sure someone else could explain it better.

JellyToast on December 31, 2009 at 9:44 PM

No one has to hope he fails anymore, he has. He’s failed the American people.

scalleywag on December 31, 2009 at 9:44 PM

I’d give Rush the #2 spot. He set the bar pretty high with that comment.

Hard to top Joe’s comment, but Janet from another planet gave it a good late run.

Zero’s quotes are expected IMO. He is an arrogant and blinded by ideology. His words mean nothing to me, and there are so many quotes that were left out. His idiotic comments are so frequent their individual impact is watered down.

‘Acted Stupidly’ didn’t even get a mention – that should tell you something.

Mr Purple on December 31, 2009 at 9:44 PM

“You lie!” Seriously, it’s the only thing anyone remembers from that speech.

I would like to nominate “hiking the Appalchian Trail”, though! :-)

SouthernGent on December 31, 2009 at 9:44 PM

txhsmom on December 31, 2009 at 9:39 PM

I could be wrong, but I don’t believe that “hide the decline” was written in 2009.

CK MacLeod on December 31, 2009 at 9:45 PM

Happy New Year, my friends.

amerpundit on December 31, 2009 at 9:45 PM

“We did this for a show.”

Mark1971 on December 31, 2009 at 9:37 PM

Winner in the ‘under 18′ category for sure!

Mr Purple on December 31, 2009 at 9:45 PM

“jobs created or saved.”

ThePrez on December 31, 2009 at 9:44 PM

Bingo! The list is long, isn’t it?

scalleywag on December 31, 2009 at 9:45 PM

I left my password at home at Christmas so I didn’t get to tell you all how much a appreciate you and enjoy you all. We are going to have a busy New Year. I wish you all the best and continued success for HotAir and all that come here. Holmes spelled backwards, Happy New Year and you to Mr. Rywall, for all the abuse you seem to thrive on.

Cindy Munford on December 31, 2009 at 9:46 PM

I voted “You Lie” with “the system worked” making a strong late push. “Wee-Wee’d up” takes the bronze.

stldave on December 31, 2009 at 9:46 PM

You lie! you worthless incompetent socialist POS! I hope you fail. Merry New Year! and F Obama!

Stone cold liar…and a soulless narcissistic empty suit.

d1carter on December 31, 2009 at 9:46 PM

“I inherited….”

Because he never actually mentions Bush by name.

notropis on December 31, 2009 at 9:47 PM

‘Death Panels’ deserves consideration as well.

Mr Purple on December 31, 2009 at 9:47 PM

“Hide the decline” because this climategate is going to have more impact than any of the other scandals the quotes represent.

jgapinoy on December 31, 2009 at 9:48 PM

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all Hot Air Crew Members,

canopfor on December 31, 2009 at 9:48 PM

“You lie” for better or for worse, is the most memorable single utterance of the year, but “death panel” ought to be up there somehow, too. The list is more like “utterances of the year.”

CK MacLeod on December 31, 2009 at 9:48 PM

Everyone rewatch this. Listen to his message and only look at his eyes. Don’t be distracted by his hand gestures. Look him in the eye.

There’s nothing there. Cold. No twinkle; no life. Dead.

nitzsche on December 31, 2009 at 9:48 PM

AnninCA on December 31, 2009 at 9:34 PM

Certainly “unprecedented” should be word of the year.

notropis on December 31, 2009 at 9:48 PM

That smug and smirking self-awarded B+ sums it up so well – the intellectually arrogant academic, grade inflation included, rolled up in one package, so I voted for it.

Here’s to Rush’s quick return to his golden mic. Many of us hope Obama fails in the context Rush meant it. In fact, the latest polls indicate a majority.

Drained Brain on December 31, 2009 at 9:48 PM

Happy New Year Hot Air and all HA commenters!!!!

For this administration, nothing underscores the arrogant superiority, utter disregard for integrity, and condescension toward us citizens, than “I won.” It’s just another way of saying “F*ck you.”

infidel4life on December 31, 2009 at 9:54 PM

‘Death Panels’ deserves consideration as well.

Mr Purple on December 31, 2009 at 9:47 PM

No kidding. How did “death panels” not make the cut? Lord knows how many people those two words inspired or pissed off.

YOU FLIPPIN’ LIE~

HornetSting on December 31, 2009 at 9:59 PM

Yea, “wee weed up” and “acted stupidly” were certainly up there. I like the “grab a mop” speech too.

You lie.

“Death Panels”

conservnut on December 31, 2009 at 9:59 PM

That’s not even what he said – so it is DQ’d.

OBAMA: I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear…
OBAMA: … that I will execute…
OBAMA: … the office of president of the United States faithfully…
OBAMA: … and will to the best of my ability…
OBAMA: … preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Could Kathy Griffin be any more classless on CNN? She’s mocking a reporter’s name, complaining about her assignment, and joking about her past profane comments on live television. She interrupts Cooper every three words for a snide comment.

amerpundit on December 31, 2009 at 10:06 PM

It’s a toss up between “you lie” and “the police acted stupidly”

Honerable mention goes to, “..my two favorite philosophers are Mao Se Tung and Sister Teresa..”

AnthonyK on December 31, 2009 at 10:07 PM

I voted for “I Hope he fails”. Most of the country is thinking that now.

antisocial on December 31, 2009 at 10:07 PM

Mr Purple on December 31, 2009 at 10:00 PM

It’s also interesting because it was so much “polarizing” as “polarized.” It made crystal clear at that moment, fully exposed unless there might be any doubt, that the Obama presidency had been at least as polarizing as previous presidencies. If Obama and the Dems had made an authentic effort for bipartisanship, as promised during the campaign, the event never would have happened.

CK MacLeod on December 31, 2009 at 10:08 PM

unseen on December 31, 2009 at 10:12 PM

Who else but Henry Rollins could say it best?

you think you’re gonna to live your life alone
in darkness
and seclusion
yeah I know
you’ve been out there
tried to mix with those animals
and it just left you full of humiliated confusion
so you stagger back home
and wait for nothing
but the solitary refinement of your room spits you back out onto the street
and now you’re desperate
and in need of human contact
and then
you meet me
and you whole world changes
because everything I say is everything you’ve ever wanted to hear
so you drop all your defenses and you drop all your fears
and you trust me completely
I’m perfect
in every way
cause I make you feel so strong and so powerful inside
you feel so lucky
but your ego obscures reality
and you never bother to wonder why
things are going so well
you wanna know why?
cause I’m a liar
yeah I’m a liar
I’ll tear your mind out
I’ll burn your soul
I’ll turn you into me
I’ll turn you into me
cause I’m a liar, a liar
a liar, a liar

I’ll hide behind a smile
and understanding eyes
and I’ll tell you things that you already know
so you can say
I really identify with you, so much
and all the time that you’re needing me
is just the time that I’m bleeding you
don’t you get it yet?
I’ll come to you like an affliction
and I’ll leave you like an addiction
you’ll never forget me
you wanna know why?
cause I’m a liar
yeah I’m a liar
I’ll rip your mind out
I’ll burn your soul
I’ll turn you into me
I’ll turn you into me
cause I’m a liar, a liar
liar, liar, liar, liar

I don’t know why I feel the need to lie
and cause you so much pain
maybe it’s something inside
maybe it’s something I can’t explain
cause all I do
is mess you up and lie to you
I’m a liar
oh, I am a liar

if you’ll give me one more chance
I swear that I will never lie to you again
because now I see the destructive power of a lie
they’re stronger than truth
I can’t believe I ever hurt you
I swear
I will never to you lie again, please
just give me one more chance
I will never lie to you again
I swear
that I will never tell a lie
I will never tell a lie
no, no
ha ha ha ha ha hah haa haa haa haaa
sucker
sucker!
oh, sucker
I am a liar
yeah, I am a liar
yeah I like it
I feel good
ohh I am a liar
yeah
I lie
I lie
I lie
oh, I lie
oh I lie
I lie
yeah
ohhh I’m a liar
I lie
yeah
I like it
I feel good
I’ll lie again
and again
I’ll lie again and again
and I’ll keep lying
I promise
