U.S. intel: Jihadi cleric linked to Fort Hood attack blessed Flight 253 plot

posted at 4:45 pm on December 29, 2009 by Allahpundit

A hot scoop from the Wash Times. This makes three people connected with the plot whom we once had in our grasp and let go: The two turds I wrote about yesterday who were sprung from Gitmo and now Aulaqi, who was in the U.S. after 9/11, was targeted with a federal arrest warrant — and then, inexplicably, was allowed to leave the country. He’s been abroad ever since, evidently plotting to blow western jets out of the sky in between answering e-mails from Nidal Hasan.

The Nigerian accused of trying to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner had his suicide mission personally blessed in Yemen by Anwar al-Awlaki, the same Muslim imam suspected of radicalizing the Fort Hood shooting suspect, a U.S. intelligence source has told The Washington Times.

The intelligence official, who is familiar with the FBI’s interrogation of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, said the bombing suspect has boasted of his jihad training during interrogation by the FBI and has said it included final exhortations by Mr. al-Awlaki.

“It was Awlaki who indoctrinated him,” the official said. “He was told, ‘You are going to be the tip of the spear of the Muslim nation.’”…

In his FBI interrogation, according to the U.S. intelligence official, Mr. Abdulmutallab spoke of being in a room in Yemen receiving Muslim blessings and prayers from Mr. al-Awlaki, along with a number of other men “all covered up in white martyrs’ garments,” and known only by code names and “abu” honorifics.

How far back do these two go? According to CBS, they might have hooked up in Londonistan years ago when Abdulmutallab was a student and Aulaqi was preaching the good word of jihad in the local mosque. (He was kicked out of the country in 2006.) The question tomorrow will be whether the former ended up in Yemen for his own reasons or whether he followed Aulaqi there, in which case you’ve got a whole new avenue of missed red flags potentially opening up.

He could, of course, be lying about all this, trying to spook intel agents by mentioning Aulaqi knowing that he already has a body count at Fort Hood. But he also told the agents that there are many more jihadis in Yemen ready to follow his example and he appears to be telling the truth about that. Obama’s called a surprise presser that’s set to start at any minute as I’m writing this. Stand by to see if he delves into any of it in his remarks.

Interesting.

Is someone on the horn to BAMC in San Antonio and twisting Nidal Hasan’s ear asking about if Alwaki blessed off on the Ft. Hood mission too?

Is there still anyone out there that is still skeptical that Ft Hood wasn’t terrorism? Anyone, anyone, Bueller, Bueller?

Dots. Unconnected.

It was strikingly inadequate, even breathtakingly inadequate.

petefrt on December 29, 2009 at 4:53 PM

Mr. al-Awlaki had e-mail contact with Maj. Hasan as many as 20 times from December 2008 until the Fort Hood shootings, where Maj. Hasan is accused of killing 13 people. Mr. al-Awlaki praised Maj. Hasan’s actions as a “hero” and said all Muslims in the U.S. military should “follow the footsteps of men like Nidal.”

It’s looking like this Awlaki fella has been tabbed as the head of AQI, Western Division. Two terror incidents, both pointing right back to his prayer rug. Coincidence?

anXdem on December 29, 2009 at 5:03 PM

Less than a year in office and Obama has yet to realize he is out of his league. A new “pivot” on the horizon, perhaps? Or, will Obama continue to blame Booosh and anyone else, and keep making these inane televised pep talks that say nothing, mean nothing, and do nothing to resolve a now growing problem.

Over the past couple years or so, a lot of jihadi websites have shown that they were down, had their backs to the wall, wished for at least one spectacular event to show they still had cred. Christmas Day over Detroit could have been all they needed to get other jihad wannabee’s on board.

So long as Obama offers a limp hand to the jihadis they will continue to go about their business and grow the movement. Why not? So long as the US appears to be confused, powerless, and unwilling to take the bull by the horns, be the weak horse, the jihadis will have a field day.

They understand just one thing. Death. If we make it more costly to them than to us, we will prevail. If we kill them before they can act, and do so routinely, they will see a withering of their ranks, and a lot fewer volunteers.

But, if we go about under the Obama Doctrine, and make it appear that going after jihadis is too costly, does anyone with an ounce of intellect believe the jihadis will stop trying to kill us?

Yes, there is a connection between Fort Hood and Detroit. That connection is a lot more than merely Aulaqi.

The sooner we come to our senses again and deal with it, the sooner we can prevail.

Ok, how many attempts or failed attempts does this make since Obama took office?
If you can’t read the writing on the wall by now you never will and it will be at your own peril. They know that this administration does not take terrorisim seriously and they are more inclined to “reach out our hand” as opposed to coming down with an iron fist. You cannot reason with radicals of any form. It is only through brute force and an unwaivering commitment to ending terrorisim. They are not interested in being made to feel all “warm and fuzzy”. They want to kill me, you, your family , my family and all infidels. Period. So, if we do not have the attitude of “get them before they get us” we will all “be got”.

Aulaqi is like the Dr. Phil of the crazy Muslim world.

“Dear Dr. Aulaqi, is it okay to shoot up the infidels even though I swore to uphold and protect America when I enlisted in the Army?”

“Sure. Even though you were born in America and swore an oath to defend it from all enemies, as a Muslim your loyalty is to Allah, and he’s crazy! He wants you to murder people in cold blood because he really digs that shite”.

“Dear Dr. Aulaqi, I wanna blow up as many innocent people as possible, especially white Christians. What do you recommend?”

“I recommend you use our very own magic undibomber briefs and fly on the most crowded airplane plane destined for America and blow it up.”

Since 2001, there have been 28 failed terrorist attacks against the United States. That averages out to about three foiled attempts per year. That was until this year. This year there were six failed attempts that make 2009 a banner year — the most in one year.”

I don’t know who the guy was sitting in for BillO last night but it was a pretty good show in that they had on the guys talking about winning war with the jihadists vs. not winning it like was are currently doing.
The only surprise here is that bho and his team apparently think the American people are still stuck on the stupid that got his ass elected. These would be bombers are waging war against us and will conitune to do so with a vengence as long as they have nothing to fear from the US. Hell’s bells they even excuse the pantybombing on a retailiation for bombing in Yemen, when we didn’t bomb in Yemen but no one in this wimpy administration even bothers to set that straight.
It’s pretty easy to blame Americans when even the POTUS agrees.
