Ron Paul on the airline plot: “They’re terrorists because we’re occupiers!”

posted at 10:00 pm on December 29, 2009 by Allahpundit

I’ve already written about how his isolationist garbage leads inexorably to nonsense like this, so let me just add two points. First, and most obviously, there is no U.S. occupation of Yemen or Nigeria. The only way the airline plot is a reaction to U.S. “occupation” is if you accept the jihadist premise that there are no Arab/Muslim nation-states but rather only one Islamic caliphate waiting to be born. Only in that way does the U.S. occupation of Iraq warrant a reprisal from, say, a Pakistani or Yemeni. And yet, needless to say, if Britain was attacked tomorrow and Obama pledged U.S. forces to assist in the reprisal, Paul would be the first guy to scream that we should scrupulously observe national boundaries and not go fighting another country’s battles for it.

Second, as usual, his facts are wrong. He uncritically accepts Abdulmutallab’s assertion that the bomb plot was retaliation for the U.S. airstrike on jihadi camps in Yemen. Not so: As Jake Tapper explained yesterday, this turd had already been mobilized and had even bought his Northwest ticket before we struck. Purely and simply, America’s Greatest Patriot is parroting propaganda cooked up by jihadist pieces of sh*t because it happens to fit his insane foreign policy agenda. Support him and his disciples at your peril.

thomasaur on December 29, 2009 at 10:03 PM

We’re occupiers is code for Israel exists amidst the Arab states. That’s it in a nut shell.

“We’re” is collective for western civilization in general. American ideals, capitalism, etc all that is “we’re” when playing the self-blame game.

Same as when Obama goes around apologizing for things that leave us scratching our heads as to his references.

Spirit of 1776 on December 29, 2009 at 10:03 PM

It’s a shame that someone who speaks so strongly to younger voters about the concepts of limited government and the strength of the free market can still be so idiotic on foreign policy. I can put up with his isolationism but this moral relativism is going too far.

They are terrorists because it works…and their religious orientation glorifies it.

They are against us because we are. Just because we are. Simply because we exist, and in their minds, in their belief system, anyone who is not of them is an enemy to be subjugated by the sword. They’ve been at this for a number of centuries, long before there was even a United States.

Ron Paul is off his meds again.

coldwarrior on December 29, 2009 at 10:04 PM

Of course our enemies blame us for their hatred of us. They blame us for everything because they can’t take responsibility for themselves.

No matter what we do, they’ll blame us. They hate us.

JohnJ on December 29, 2009 at 10:04 PM

Oh I forgot to put the financial component. We are occupiers because money flows from America to Israel and vice versa. Did I say money? I meant blood money, natch.

Spirit of 1776 on December 29, 2009 at 10:04 PM

There is some weird youtube video about hotair which showcases that post you wrote that you linked to in the first sentence of this post. It’s by some ron paul fan who thinks that this website is an anti-ron paul propaganda website run by neocons. I can’t remember how I found it but it was pretty funny. The best part was his suspicions towards the commenters and how there was no way to register.

If it’s all our fault no matter what we do, then I say let’s go for it.

Saudi Arabia can’t defend itself militarily from a stiff breeze. We could annihilate its military in an afternoon, level Mecca and Medina, and then drain their oil.

But of course we don’t do that, even though nobody could stop us from doing it if we felt like it.

Because that’s not who we are.

I find it kinda of funny…

That someone who enjoys all of the luxuries of the United States of America, can not, for one second, understand the basic threat to our civilization.

Imagine a world, where billions of people are ruled by tyrants, who use religion as a means of oppression, where an education past the second grade is a luxury, where ‘state run media’ really takes on a new name, political corruption and graft would make Bill Clinton and Obowma blush, where your food, your house, and your very life is dependent on following the orders of the day, and to blame everything on the ‘devil’ for your misery…

And that ‘devil’ is never those in power that cause your suffering, it is always a finger point away to the west, to the United States, regardless of the Billions in dollars of aid we provide.

A never ending supply of soldiers for your army…

And Ron Paul blames us.

Nice.

He’s a bit more hawkish than his father, openly saying he’d still vote for a war in Afghanistan and insisting the executive should have authority to act without Congressional approval to stop or respond to an attack.

But he still opposes the war in Iraq and other major aspects of national security policy.

I just don’t want to wake up in 2010 and find we’ve elected a bunch of anti-war, isolationist Republicans who are good on economic policy and little else. That would be disaster for the country.

BierManVA on December 29, 2009 at 10:24 PM

You’re half right, Mr.Paul.

We are indeed ‘occupiers’ in that we’re occupying their home turf with armed soldiers. “Because you’re on our land” is nearly always a legitimate reason to fight back – although blowing up innocent civilians isn’t the way to do it. If America were invaded and occupied by a foreign power, I’d be proud as punch to see my fellow citizens giving the enemy blood and steel every day of the week.

But the spirit of your speech suggests that if we packed up and went home, the problem would soon go away by itself. Sadly…it won’t. There are wars we could have kept out of, but this is not going to be one of them.

We’re poised to make some modest gains because the fundraising money is coming in, my friend.

I think fiscal conservatives will be tempted to support mainline Republican candidates, but they have to realize that if we start any more wars by bombing Iran or Syria or whoever, there won’t be very much conservatism with neo-conservative Republicans in office. Plus they don’t care about fis-con anyway as evidenced by Bush. Iran would be ten times as disastrous as the Iraq quagmire if we invaded. Laugh at our numbers now, but we are growing and I like the enthusiasm coming from the younger patriots.

I’m a big fan of Rand Paul. He supports the war and thinks America is a presence of good for the world, unlike his father. I urge readers to look up Rand Paul’s positions and they’ll find he is as good a conservative as DeMint and Rubio.

We have troops in Iraq and Afghanistan but none of these homicidal terrorists are Iraqi or Afghan. We have not military presence in Nigeria or Yemen, which is where the newest crop of Achmeds seem to sprout from. Please Paultards ‘splain it to me?

Laugh at our numbers now, but we are growing and I like the enthusiasm coming from the younger patriots.

Yeah, young a stupid and easily lead, or is that just Obama’s voters?

Biggest argument against the LP. Even their savior Ron Paul won’t dare have that name attached to him.

Yeah, beware of your younger patriots. They’re easily swayed and many of them aren’t as strong of allies as you’d think. Many are drawn to Paul’s vocal isolationism — not his economic theory.

I happen to know one such individual through Facebook. He finds no irony in praising Ron Paul one second and attacking Republicans for obstructing national health care in the next. An anecdote, but still…

Oh, and I’ll believe you’re about to become a major political force when I see it. You’ll find that many of the donors to Paul’s campaign are Republicans of all walks who are just desperate to hold onto the seat.
