Video: Abdulmutallab warns “more like me” coming to America

posted at 10:55 am on December 28, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

More good news on the terrorism front, this time from ABC’s Brian Ross, who reports that Umar Abdulmutallab says “more like me” will be coming to the US. Al-Qaeda has launched a new offensive against the US using the international air travel system, and that the US has not completely grasped the significance of the attack on Christmas Day. The British seem to have a better handle on it:

American officials have cause to worry there may be more al Qaeda-trained young men in Yemen planning to bring down American jets.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, charged with the attempted Christmas Day bombing of Northwest Airlines flight 253, told FBI agents there were more just like him in Yemen who would strike soon.

And in a tape released four days before the attempted destruction of the Detroit-bound Northwest plane, the leader of al Qaeda in Yemen boasted of what was planned for Americans, saying, “We are carrying a bomb to hit the enemies of God.”

The next time, we won’t have the good fortune to have a faulty detonator. AQ missed a chance with NW253, but they now have time to refine their system to work more efficiently. They only have to get it right once, while we have to get it right every single time. We got lucky on Christmas, but that’s all it was — luck.

That’s why Joe Lieberman demanded pre-emptive action against AQ strongholds in Yemen:

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) Sunday said that Yemen could be the ground of America’s next overseas war if Washington does not take preemptive action to root out al-Qaeda interests there.

Lieberman, who helms the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said on “Fox News Sunday” that the U.S. will have to take an active approach in Yemen after multiple recent terrorist attacks on the U.S. were linked back to the Middle Eastern nation.

The Connecticut senator said that an administration official told him that “Iraq was yesterday’s war, Afghanistan is today’s war. If we don’t act preemptively, Yemen will be tomorrow’s war.”

ABC didn’t include Ross’ report in the video on the British response to the warning from Abdulmutallab’s father last month to their webpage, but it’s instructive. Instead of shrugging their shoulders, the Brits immediately added Abdulmutallab to its no-fly list and revoked his visa. That’s what our State Department should have done — and they should be looking at a lot of leads they may have shrugged off over the last few months as well.

There IS a War on Terror, Mr. President. Keep Guantamo functioning. Your mere Presence on the world stage does not make all of our ‘enemies’ dance around and want to hold your hand. Wake up!

No worries, you are more likely to get struck by lightining than be on a terrorist-attached flight! See this.

Stay indoors, or take a plane ride its safer!

Of course if you happen to be on the rare flight that has a terrorist, you are so lucky you should prolly buy a lottery ticket after you land (if your plane isn’t brought down or your throat isn’t slit).

Obama doesn’t know what we’re dealing with or he does know and doesn’t care–he doesn’t see it as a major threat. When he even suggested that if he made a statement that that might escalate more attacks by terrorists just shows how naive he really is. If terrorists want to attack, they will.

Speaking of “more like me”, was there a John Doe Abuabdulahibrahaimmohammed aboard flight 253? I have seen two eyewitness reports of another arrest, but the FBI denies it:

1. About an hour after landing, Haskell said he saw another man being taken into custody. But a spokeswoman from the FBI in Detroit said Mutallab was the only person taken into custody.

2. The only thing that I recall happening is seeing an Indian guy off to the side, an older gentleman wearing a gray suit leaning against the wall. Suddenly there was a police officer next to him pulling his arms back and pulling handcuffs on him. The man didn’t struggle, the bags which seemed to be his were left there, and he and the police officer disappeared around the corner.

Buy Danish on December 28, 2009 at 11:07 AM

1. The British “revoked” the visa when A. tried to renew it and gave a suspicious story. We don’t know if they would have done anything if he wouldn’t have needed to renew.

2. Obama already attacked Yemen. So of course Yemen is going to attack the US back..

Some are so easily manipulated by statistics…you just swallow them without thinking.
Let me just throw a couple of wrenches.
The majority of flight miles are commuter, terrorists don’t attack commuter flights.
Bush was president and he was waging a war, an aggressive war against terrorism…this president is not at war with terrorism.
That is like saying for the two periods there were no goals scored in a hockey game…the last period the team pulls their goalie…so the other team scores a goal and you say, but that is only one goal in the game…we have no goalie, by the order of the president, we are on defensive, not the offensive by the order of this president.
Who is going to score more “goals”, the defense or offense?
…and of course the three airliner’s on 9/11 just didn’t kill passengers, but about 15,000 other people.
*
This is a warning, they are ramping up because there is no offensive nature to our politics…if all you do is defend in a war, the enemy will eventually become stronger, and discover your vulnerability.

right2bright on December 28, 2009 at 11:21 AM

It is scary how much history is repeating itself. We are seeing constant attacks against Americans from Muslims escalating in frequency and potentcy. We have an administration in power that doesn’t take terrorism seriously or considers it a nuisance.

If we continue on this path another 9/11 is inevitable. It will come from Pakistan, Afghanistan (when we leave) or one of the many sympathetic African countries.

The hold up in arresting this terrorist is that he looked middle eastern, so they had to find a gray haired old lady, a white businessman, a blond 30 year old white woman, a 35 year old black man, a Hispanic mother…then they could say they were not profiling…

They only have to get it right once, while we have to get it right every single time.

Exactly. Thus the reason why Janet Napolitano’s revised statement stinks. She thinks that it’s a GOOD THING that the “system” “warned” other planes? What, it’s somehow unavoidable that we might miss one? Hell no. We miss NONE. Those are HUMAN LIVES, and if it weren’t for the ill luck of this terrorist and the fortitude of the passengers, those people would be dead and AQ would have yet another symbolic notch on their belt.

Bishop on December 28, 2009 at 11:30 AM

There’s no way of dealing with this. Its not like these bombers are of the same religion, or that they are terrorists. That would make it too easy. These are just random young men with anger issues.

With the highly intellectual US leadership locked in mortal combat with those resisting the call of socialism and wealth redistribution, people on board commercial aircraft must rise the challenge and pray to Obama that the devices used to ignite bombs continue to fail since that is the system in place to protect America. Unlike the dark days of Bush, we must show the world that we mean no harm as in protecting American lives and instead allowing our fellow comrades to die rather than offending the delicate sensibilities of mass murderers.

This is why B.O. and his merry band of Democratic misfits can do as much name-changing and denying as they want, but the solid fact of the matter is that the War on Terror is far from over and now that the enemy has seen how much of an empty suit B.O. really is, we can most likely expect more attacks on this country than ever before!

Meanwhile, what exactly is B.O. going to do about all of this, make another speech? Perhaps he is drafting it even now as he basks in the warm Maui sunshine and surfs the Pacific.

The Islamic jihadists hate what they see as the debauchery of America (and its global effect on their culture,) but they’re under the mistaken impression that America works like their part of the world, where the rich and the military oversee what is allowed and not allowed. That misconception leads to targeting Wall Street and the Pentagon, blaming them for American culture. The jihadists don’t quite get freedom, where individuals are responsible for what’s allowed, and debauchery is not something sanctioned by those at the top, unless you’re in Hollywood.

There is a huge upside to your country being known as a violent, warlike, uncaring uber-powerful nation.

You can catch more flies with honey, but if you kill them all with poison and flyswatters, you never have to worry about them again.

hawksruleva on December 28, 2009 at 11:48 AM

What’s bizarre to me is the people who DO live in NYC who don’t consider terrorism to be a problem.

hawksruleva on December 28, 2009 at 11:37 AM

Yes… I can imagine that. The IRA used very large bombs and then found it was cost effective to use phone calls to bring London to a stand still. The great thing about Londoners and New Yorkers and other places these assholes try to terrorize is that people continue to get on with their loves and won’t let these mad freaks control their day to day lives. That really pisses terrorists off. Their aim is change how we live… so we cower in panic and fear.

We should not panic. Eventually they will get through with something and a plane or a train or a bus or a school will get hit. We can fight back.. we are fighting back …and we did get some of these creeps in Yemen recently. We need to continue to terrorize them and not let their lame attmepts unnerve us. We should profile passengers. I would like to see that but they are trying hard to find people that would fall through our profile filters.

So they will send more bombers… we will send more predators and will continue to fight them. Many here seem to think this is a military war but these guys aren’t lining up tanks or marching as an army. They are murderers sending other murderers and we need to detect and stop them.

The recent attack over Detroit was entirely avoidable. The Brits refused to give the guy a visa and the Americans never should have given him a visa. It is scandalous that he was able to board a US bound flight. We really need to plug whatever gap is letting these guys get visas and plane tickets.

Stopping this idiocy on passenger airplanes is to prohibit Muslims or anyone from Muslim countries from flying. Period. Make them take a boat. Or a bus. Or a train. Even better, make them walk. They need to watch out for the sharks when they get near Bermuda though.

bradley11 on December 28, 2009 at 11:38 AM

That’d be a pretty effective policy tool. Just announce that no Muslims or Arabs will be allowed to fly commercially in U.S. airspace until the threat from Islamic terrorism has passed. The affected populations can complain, but eventually they’d realize that they could solve their problem by getting rid of the radicals.

And while the bored radicals were sitting around in Yemen, maybe they’d blow themselves up.

LOL

I was talking with my pop, who is going back to work for American out of NYC soon.

When he heard this:

Those motherfckers can bring it on.

If one of those bastards tries anything like that I’m going to bash his skull in after he’s subdued with a coffee pot to make sure he walks off dead

I totally believe him, too! And, Allah Forbid, if this ever happens this year to him, I hope he bashes the guy to death.

This has to be a boon for the Charter Airline Industry.

This can’t be true. Big Sis said that the “system worked” and that this was not part of a bigger plot. Let’s not jump to conclusions now… /sarc

Just try to understand; this is all a by-product of O Bomber’s new “make love, not war” foreign policy! He runs around the world on Air Force One, bowing and apologizing to anything and everybody, and then announces “we need to talk” to those nice folks you call “terrorists” and find out why they still don’t like us and want to slit our throats.

Once they reveal their reason(s), we’ll take immediate steps to STOP whatever it is that George W. Bush is still doing that makes them angry – like killing them before they kill us! We’ll even give them a few billion of the taxpayer’s money – despite an economy that’s bankrupt as it stands – and you’ll see; they’ll become our VERY best friends!
