It’s time to start over on ObamaCare, says … top House Democrat
posted at 4:20 pm on December 23, 2009 by Allahpundit
I feel like Carrey in that scene in “Dumb and Dumber” when he’s told that his chances of scoring with his love interest are a million to one. So you’re telling me there’s a chance…
Although the art of legislating involves compromise, I believe the Senate went off the rails when it agreed with the Obama Administration to water down the reform bill and no longer include the public option…
In the House, we fought hard to repeal McCarran-Ferguson, the antitrust exemption that insurance companies have enjoyed for years. We did that because we believed firmly that those Fortune 500 corporations should not enjoy special treatment.
Yet the Senate bill does not include that provision — despite assurances from some members that they will seek to add it. By ending that protection, we will be able to go after insurance companies with federal penalties for misleading advertising or dishonest business practices…
And of course, the Senate bill did not remove the onerous choice language intended to appeal to anti-abortion forces…
It’s time that we draw the line on this weak bill and ask the Senate to go back to the drawing board.
Starting over is, of course, the last thing they’ll do at this point for the simple reason that they don’t want the process to drag on any closer to the midterms than it already has. Dropping HCR altogether would be preferable. Not sure why Slaughter would be twisting Reid’s arm publicly about lefty concessions that he, um, can’t make, but she’s pretty much boxed herself into voting no here. That puts the House vote momentarily at 219-216; Joe Cao has said he can’t vote for a bill that lacks Stupak’s abortion language, which the final bill surely will, so make that … 218-217. That leaves everything in the hands of the Blue Dogs — who, of course, are fully prepared to sell out. Here’s the clip of Jason Altmire last night on Fox Business predicting that “a lot” of centrist Dems will flip to yes this time. Wouldn’t surprise me if the margin on the final bill is wider than the margin on the one they already passed.

Slaughter represents one of the safest districts–because it has probably been the most gerrymandered–in NYS (the one just north of mine). She can say whatever she wants, and it’ll never hurt her. And she’s been clear before: if anything even hints at impeding our inevitable walk into socialized medicine, it ain’t worth it.
I doubt she’ll get her way and the bill will pass, but as chair of the House Rules Committee, and a bigwig in the House Progressive Caucus, her name carries some (but not too much) weight.

Pelosi has no more regard for her Democratic members than she does for the Nation as a whole . . . shoving them down on their swords or kicking them in the groin are only two of her acceptable methods for getting the necessary votes. The democratic process, who cares . . . that’s from the old America we once knew.

Harkin asked if the vote could be taken a 6pm today and then at 1am (so some folks could get out of town early), both shut down by the simple objections—Harkin finished with a parting shot at Repulicans for not caring about familys during Christmas, to which a Republican suggested the vote be put off until January 20th, and every one could go home now—–there was nothing but silence on the other side.

“Overs” Democrat mulligan announcements, including Obama’s supposed announcement to wait until Feb. to vote are disinformation.
Obama announces “wait and see” while opposition attempts to celebrate Christmas, after which time people wake up to the news that the vote is over, Obama’s quorum made it happen in secret.
Expect the worst from the Democrats, and be prepared to uphold the Constitution in every way, on every front. Don’t get suckered.
Though Obama should be concerned about the Will of the American People, he never has been and never will be. Obama has never given America any reason to believe a damn thing he ever says. More often than not, if you take the opposite of what he says, you’re closer to the mark.
NEVER expect Obama and this majority of Democrats to observe the law and the legislative protocol. Hold them to account for every infraction on record, and prepare their impeachment and prosecutions for their frauds. Never submit to US federal Marxism.

There are so many things that are infuriating about the evil SOBs in the White House and Congress (and yes I mean evil, not just wrong/stupid… as I’ve explained at length many times)…. But something just struck me…
We’ve all heard the Christmas sort of “deadline”, now we’re hearing that the White House wants to push it back ’til February… and I believe there was another “deadline” around October/November… But I just thought about something. Does everyone remember when Obama demanded a bill be on his desk before the August recess? Yeah… That was back before all of the tea parties, town halls, etc. Anyway, heck of a job, B+ Barry.
Seriously… I think we all recognize how arrogant it was to even answer the “grade” question, and shockingly/unbelievably arrogant to give Mr. 10% unemployment, Mr. the world is laughing at me, etc. to go as high as a B+… But one has to wonder, just what in the hell does he think he’s done right?
Answer: Everything. I’m not going to ramble on about how his goal is to destroy the economy and “fundamentally transform” (his words) the country, because if you still don’t get it then you’re beyond help.

I was on the way to the nearest MRI center (very near, indeed; about a mile from my house), and caught a minute of Mark Steyn. Steyn was reminding us that in Canada, you might wait for 24 or 36 months for an MRI. I made my appointment yesterday afternoon.
At the center, I helped a lady get from her car to the door on crutches in freezing rain. I asked her when she scheduled her MRI — it was this morning.
After my test, they thanked me and sent me out the door.
“Do I owe you anything?”
“No, your insurance deductibles are met and everything was cleared yesterday.”

I can see one of two things happening:
- Pelosi finds a way for 218 House Rats to swallow what came out of the Senate whole and without any changes (any changes would require a trip back to the Senate and at least one 60-vote cloture vote)
- Pelosi finds 218 votes for HR3200 (the old, full-public-option, abortion-promoting version of PlaceboCare that only needs 50+Biden in the Senate, which Reid has because it has been certified for “reconciliation”).
