Changes for Hawaii: The Manager’s Amendment singles out Hawaii as the only state to receive a Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) extension.

I have a theory as to why this exemption is being offered. The defunding of DSH in the House & Senate Bill is to decimate the Catholic Charities system of care. As it is very unlikely that CHAUSA will shut it’s doors to the poor when the federal payment stop, they will hope their charities will pick up the slack. But there is no way that funding can be made up.

Hawaii is the only state whose DSH funding went only to private hospitals. If you look up the care that Catholic Charities provides in Hawaii you can see they only have long term care facilities there – no tie in’s with hospitals or any freestanding hospitals.

Hawaii got this exemption because one of the the intents of defunding the DSH is to defund the Catholic Charities hospitals (and their partnerships).

Ok, so I should be disappointed that they couldn’t manage to scrape up a single bribe for the state. At least according to their party leader in the Senate.

Ed Morrissey had a good post on the corrupt payoffs needed to secure 60 votes on ReidCare. Gee, if all of these states are now exempted from cuts in Medicare, I wonder and ponder if other Democratic Senators will demand……

Red State would be to change taxing, policing and benefits based on Red or Blue State.
