Matthews on Griffith’s flip: The GOP is sort of the party of the confederacy now, huh?

posted at 10:15 pm on December 22, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via Weasel Zippers. The money line: “Are you going to keep building your party with Dixiecrats, ex-Democrats, who think the Democratic party is too mainstream?” Savor that last word, as it suggests that a party pushing a signature bill that’s now -20 in net approval in some polls is the one that speaks for the great “mainstream.” The idea of a liberal silent majority goes hand in hand with the idea of the GOP as a radical collective, which is where the confederacy meme comes in here. Nothing new for “Hardball”: Kathleen Parker pushed that smear herself back in August during an especially insulting segment on why Palin fares well in the south while Obama doesn’t, but it’s a treat to see it paired this time with a blind assertion that the disintegrating Democrats are the true party o’ the people.

A reminder on the “confederacy” point: According to lefty pollster PPP, the top seven most endangered Senate seats are all held by Democrats and come from the following very much un-confederate states — North Dakota, New York, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, Delaware, and Illinois. (Tenth-most endangered is Pennsylvania, a.k.a. the land of Gettysburg.) Bear that in mind as you watch the first clip. As for the second, in which Matthews salutes one of his ideological heroes of yesteryear, that’s just for fun.

Update: From Politico’s new report on Griffith’s flip, a salute to the “mainstream”:

“There’s a real backlash in the conservative districts against Washington and the president,” said one senior Democratic operative. “In any right-leaning district…you’re going to see the incumbent looking at numbers they’ve never seen before.”

“I just think it really shows the moderates feel they don’t have a voice in the party, they don’t like where we are going as a party, and that should be troubling for Democrats,” said another senior Democratic strategist. “Less than a year into a Washington that is controlled by Democrats, they’ve lost hope, they feel disillusioned, and they don’t think there’s anything to stick around for.”

Excellent, Matthews! Keep on talking derisively about the South and referring to it as the confederacy, because there are a few other House democrats from Republican leaning districts (10 to 15). We need every one of them, so let them know what democrats really think about them.

I watched a bit of his show this afternoon – had to mute the sound because I cannot stand to hear his voice. But his facial expression was hilarious. Same scowling frown as the Harry Reid pic often seen here.

If the GOP is actually able to pick up 7 seats in the Senate – heck, I’m shooting for 10! – I will pick up my remote control and turn it to MSNBC for election night coverage, just to see Chris Matthew explode.

Chrissie does not get it yet. And I’m praying he doesn’t until it’s too late. Come 2010 and 2012 when these fools are trying to figure out what happened to “the end of the COnservative Movement”, I’ll be laughing about how easy it was to reenact 1994. Only this time I think it’ll be even bigger because Conservative Republicans, Independents and Libertarians will band to take back and undo what these thieves have taken from us.

A fellow commenter was literally crying in despair the other night over the thought that her and her hubby had lost the health care they worked their lives for and would be relegated to accepting the scraps of what might be left for them in the government run program. For these fellow Americans I promise to fight tooth and nail to defend; to elect true COnservatives of any party that still believes in The Constitution. I’m going to be back home in about 11 weeks and the fight starts on day one.

The GOP is still very far away from being the party of states’ rights and anti-authoritarianism. But I think we’re making progress in changing hearts and minds of the people. Certainly much more than I would have ever thought a few years ago. The problem is that the establishment is very resistant to changing what they do. It could take a few more cycles to see positive change, if ever.

Zombie John C. Calhoun

It cannot be necessary, before so enlightened a body, that I should undertake to refute an argument so utterly untrue in premises and conclusion—to show that Congress never possessed the power which the Secretary claims for it—that it is a power, from its very nature, incapable of such enlargement, being limited solely to the safe keeping of the public funds—that if it existed, it would be susceptible of the most dangerous abuses—that Congress might make the wildest and most dangerous association the depository of the public funds—might place them in the hands of the fanatics and madmen of the North, who are waging war against the domestic institutions of the South, under the plea of promoting the general welfare.

I don’t even know what you’re talking about at this point.

I have a bad inclination that if the Republicans get majorities by 2012, it will be a triumph for Neoconism, and the country will continue to decline like it did during the Bush administration and still is now. If that happens, we need to put down the party loyalty and reject it IMO.

All we want is to follow the Constitution, state sovereignty, respect civil liberties/Bill of Rights, market base economics, and finally a non-interventionist foreign policy that respects Christian Just War theory.

We can’t be indiscriminately bombing innocent villages just to flex our muscle around the globe. America First foreign policy is the goal. We’re not in a position (financially or otherwise) where we should be fighting on behalf of other countries in the Middle East if it is not in our defense or interest.

Tingles Mathews, Bernie Sanders and Saul Alynsky – now isn’t that just three of a kind that would beat a Royal Flush!

Sanders – from his early days as Mayor of Burlington, VT. – has always proclaimed himself to be a Socialist. He still does. And he finds great comfort in the far left wing of the Democrat Party (and doesn’t that speak volumes), but he still considers himself an “Independent”, despite having a nearly 100% Democrat voting record.

Sanders doesn’t think O Bomber is a Socialist because he’s not far enough left. If Sanders were any further left, he’d fall off.

Ironically, Sanders and his wife are millionaires, living the good life in Vermont, despite his disheveled appearance and once-a-year haircut. The man has never done a day’s work in his life, but to hear him talk you’d swear he dug the 400 foot quarries in Barre all by himself!

I’m proud that the GOP is the part of the Confederacy.

The Confederacy was right about the constitution and limits of federal powers. I’m glad slavery was abolished – but many of our current woes can be tracked to the loss of the Confederacy which equated to a huge loss for State’s rights.

We have it RIGHT down here in the Southern States and I’ll not apologize for it. I’ll put my state up head to head against New York and New Jersey – and bankrupt California any day of the week baby.

As this Government becomes more and more dictatorial and fascist in nature – the Southern states brace to resist. There’s no “tingles” up our legs Miss Chrissy. The only thing we’re “feeling up” right now are our shotguns – want to come inspect them for cleanliness Miss Chrissy?

Matthews on Griffith’s flip: The GOP is sort of the party of the confederacy now, huh?

All the posters save one capitalized “Confederacy”. Interesting.

Why wouldn’t Chrissy like the Confederacy? The vast majority of African-Americans lived in housing that didn’t belong to them, were fed and clothed and guaranteed jobs. After the war the Democrats told them how to vote…didn’t need no ACORN back then.

There was an elite ruling class that ran every thing. Didn’t have all those factories and railroads like up North putting out soot and CO2 into the atmosphere. People with higher education were rare and automatically looked up to…no need to educate the masses as only those few with innate smarts (and from the “right” families…er, like the Kennedys I guess) were worth investing in.

There weren’t all these big companies in the Old South like up in New England. Didn’t have a huge banking system…so not all this money-grubbing Capitalism going on.

I think Chrissy would have been very comfortable in the CS of A. I could easily see him on a porch sipping a mint julep with a Dickens novel on his lap, pontificating to guests as to the need for Social Justice and Order while his slaves made their contribution to the Greater Good by picking his cotton fields out back yonder.

All would have been quite serene and perfect at Chrissy Oaks Plantation.

Dr. ZhivBlago on December 23, 2009 at 4:06 AM

Did y’all know that a lot of Southerners regard these sorts of the South-is-evil-and-backwards memes as somewhat insulting? Did you know that, before the fighting ended, the Confederacy had itself decided to elimininate slavery? And did you know that *all* of the States lost the Civil War? The only winner was the all-powerful monstrosity that is the federal government.

Winners write the history. This is how we’ll all be depicted in the textbooks of the coming USSA if we don’t turn this thing around.

So Saul Alinsky is Matthews’ hero and Mao is the hero of the White House. What could go wrong?

Ricohoc on December 23, 2009 at 5:49 AM

We have a plantation. It is called the District of Columbia.
And it is not pretty. And Dems have run it for decades.

Hey, Chrissy. The CSA was a better place than Somalia.

What a nonPC thought…

And I thought the “Hi, I’m John from Alperts” ads were bad. (People from RI and MA will understand this.)

jackmac on December 23, 2009 at 6:32 AM

How does this guy still have a show? And who, if anyone is actually watching it?

painfulTruthDisciple on December 23, 2009 at 6:41 AM

. . . and Matthews is a wormy little fascist supporter.

It’s an crazy, offensive idea no matter what the motivation and provides ammunition to people who want to paint the right wing as kooks.

Boxy_Brown on December 23, 2009 at 4:05 AM

Is it? Maybe so. John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, (among others), could have greatly benefited from your wisdom. If only they had known that struggling for independence from tyranny is crazy and offensive and provides “ammunition to people who want to paint the right wing as kooks.”, I’m sure they would have just paid the damn taxes and done something more useful with their wasted lives.

Hey Chris, This is what you have to do for ratings now? Assclown

shov74 on December 23, 2009 at 7:13 AM

The Democrats, sort of the party of the KKK, Jim Crow laws, segregation … and slavery.

tarpon on December 23, 2009 at 7:14 AM

CRR you are Chris Matthews . I know Matthews and you are.

CWforFreedom on December 23, 2009 at 7:24 AM

This seems more like the usual tactic of downplaying a loss.

Boy, have these liberals really whitewashed history..Did they forget or just choose to ignore that Lincoln wanted to repatriate the Negroes back to Africa? Look at the flag of Liberia, no small coincidence there. The war was a war over states rights and did not become over freeing of the slaves until the Emancipation Proclamtion a couple of years after hostilities started.

I’m tired of idiots like him insulting other Americans. You want another Civil War, you saliva slurping Neanderthal? Your side is the ones without the guns, tweety. Saul Alinsky? Yeah, keep it up. That’s not gonna fly one of these days, soon…Bush wanted truly to be a uniter, but the Saul Alinsky accolytes on the left used that against him with 8 years of non stop propaganda, from aholes like this. As Lincoln had once said, “You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can’t fool everyone all of the time.” There’s not that many stupid Democrats to go around. This Cloward Piven act is ready to give way. It’s not going to work where the country was born free…..It’s time to destroy these Progressive(ly) Communist talking heads with their own medicine. A conservative comedy news show similar to that other ahole Jon Stewart would be perfect. Go after the youth like the left does……..

Saul Alinsky?

Another one of Glenn Becks theories confirmed.
