Quotes of the day

posted at 10:17 pm on December 21, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Consider the president’s leadership style, which has now become clear: deliver a moving speech, move on, and when push comes to shove, leave it to others to decide what to do if there’s a conflict, because if there’s a conflict, he doesn’t want to be anywhere near it…

“Like most Americans I talk to, when I see the president on television, I now change the channel the same way I did with Bush. With Bush, I couldn’t stand his speeches because I knew he meant what he said. I knew he was going to follow through with one ignorant, dangerous, or misguided policy after another. With Obama, I can’t stand them because I realize he doesn’t mean what he says — or if he does, he just doesn’t have the fire in his belly to follow through. He can’t seem to muster the passion to fight for any of what he believes in, whatever that is. He’d make a great queen — his ceremonial addresses are magnificent — but he prefers to fly Air Force One at 60,000 feet and ‘stay above the fray.’…

“I don’t honestly know what this president believes. But I believe if he doesn’t figure it out soon, start enunciating it, and start fighting for it, he’s not only going to give American families hungry for security a series of half-loaves where they could have had full ones, but he’s going to set back the Democratic Party and the progressive movement by decades, because the average American is coming to believe that what they’re seeing right now is ‘liberalism,’ and they don’t like what they see. I don’t, either.”

***
“If this health care legislation becomes law, Democrats will attempt to use the new infrastructure they built to add stricter regulations, more subsidies, and additional mandates. They will continue to incrementally expand existing government-run programs such as Medicaid. And as health care spending spirals out of control, instead of faulting government intervention, liberals will blame the absence of a public option…

“All along, opponents of the pending legislation have argued that it was just one step on the long march to a government takeover of health care. And now, with victory in sight, Democrats are proving their critics’ point.”

***
“True, if Republicans had played ball, they would have been in a position to eliminate the public option, demand deficit neutrality, and so forth … but they had Democratic centrists to do that work for them, and they won all those battles, to some extent at least, without having to vote for the final bill. Whereas winning the larger war, over the design of the legislation, was probably beyond their capabilities whatever negotiating strategy they took…

“In the end, when the history of the health care debate is written, I don’t think any of the choices that G.O.P. lawmakers made this year will loom particularly large. The choices that they made, or didn’t make, across the last fifteen years are what made all the difference. Between the defeat of Clintoncare and the election of Barack Obama, the Republicans had plenty of chances to take ownership of the health care issue and pass a significant reform along more free-market, cost-effective lines. They didn’t. The system deteriorated on their watch instead. And now they’re suffering the consequences.”

The next 20 years will tell the tale. How many Americans age 20-50 do you know that have it in them?

JDPerren on December 21, 2009 at 11:42 PM

They might suprise you. They have enlisted in the war on terror in record numbers. Its the hippies of the 60′s that brought us to this point and when the 20-50 crowd sees with eyes wide open the damage they have wrought, they might decide to again fight for their country. It is they who will suffer the consequences of the experiment of the 60′s radicals, they and their children

Well said. It appears that the “social justice crowd demands equality of outcome, regardless of the worth, talent, or effort of the contribution of the individual.

The health-care “crisis” could largely be resolved if people realized that insurance serves a purpose for protecting against devastating illness or accident. It should never have been seen as a compensation for routine medical care. If people paid out-of-pocket for doctor visits, innoculations, or minor afflictions, they would be more careful about abusing the system.

Horatius on December 21, 2009 at 11:23 PM

Excellent piece.

It is a hard sell in our current society.
People have been taught that health care is a right- and that rights should be free.

In addition, the left has been very successful in sanctioning envy, which, in the current discussion, equates to “rich” doctors are greedy and evil.

So people delude themselves that health care, by right, ought to be free, or at least cheap, and that the government will be able to coerce that into reality.

Nevermind the saying that you get what you pay for.

I really don’t think he ever understood or expected Palin’s influence during the campaign. He either bumbled into that, or maybe someone with greater wisdom pointed him in that direction. Otherwise, it was all a setup to his eventual defeat. I don’t know either way, but something good will come from it anyway.

In the end, the amount of money spent, this train-wreck, might have just mortally wound this country forever. When liberals start to talk like conservatives, you know they sense a grave problem.

A few random thoughts:

I’ve always looked at Obama as a Scott Peterson type of personality—the most acute form of narcissism.

It has been brought up numerous, numerous times, but that 57, or (60 even) state comment was extremely telling of his skimming the surface of any knowledge, but more importantly, the lack of interest in U.S. history and facts. Again he does it with “when the bomb fell on Pearl Harbor”. I would have bet money that he had at least seen the movie.

I worked for a company that was the “middle-man” with the billing of Medicaid claims.. I was given a laminated sheet of paper on what was acceptable and not acceptable. On a list of twenty “acceptable” treatments for eye-sight, 19 were “NO”, one “YES”. I do not know how Medicare is rationed, but I can only assume it is in the same ball-park.

Government health-care is government rationing.

Medicare is a freakin’ Cadillac compared to Medicaid. And Bush, Jr. put the finishing touches on that masterpiece.

That’s the problem with collectivism: When you take everybody’s money, and re-distribute it to a small number of people, it’s a feast. But when you take everybody’s money, and re-distribute it back to everybody else, all you get is a very thin gruel.

That’s why the Medicare recipients are some of this plan’s biggest opponents. They figured out that, under fully Socialized medicine, they’re going to get exactly the same treatment as everybody else. And they are pissed as Hell about that.

That’s just industrial strength nonsense. Republicans had no reason to push any health care legislation when they were in control of Congress because there wasn’t any health care crisis that needed any big legislating. And there still isn’t. This is a Democrat issue and a Democrat-manufactured “crisis” and always has been and always will be. Socialized medicine is their Holy Grail. They are never going to stop until they achieve it; it is their Prime Directive.

As in, “The Scooter Store” that advertises heavily on t.v. “…if you are on Medicare this mechanized, mach-speed wheel-chair will be delivered to your door at little or no cost to you”. Obama has always looked up to his deadbeat Muslim -Kenyan dad. Its his white mother and grandparents that he has always resented. That resentment has been nurtured by Frank Marshall Davis and Jeremiah Wright and drives his vindictiveness, which Rhambo , Jarrett and Asslrod put to good use to take it out on us all.

Remember when talking to Oprah, the only Christmas gift he recalled was something his dad gave him, which may have been the only gift the Sr. gave to Jr. Strangely, he never mentioned anything his mom or grandparents must have given him over the decades !

The problem with the black community is that they blame whites for their problems still. Instead of the real reason and that is their failure to assimalate within the culture of America, after the civil rights movement.

The black community could not let go of their racism, their fear of the white man, their hatred of the culture of the white man. They intentionally kept themselves apart, they turned on any blacks that embraced assimalation. Because of this, like their leaders in the 1700 and early 1800′s, their leaders today have doomed the black community to a new slavery. That is the slavery to government handouts.

Claire McCaskill is on Morning Joe blaming GOP senators for precluding them from going home for Christmas.

BuckeyeSam on December 22, 2009 at 8:05 AM

McCaskill is from the same stable of political whores as Nelson and Landrieu. Of course her allegations are absurd but perfectly sellable to her brain dead supporters.

Obama celebrates Christmas 2009 as Wicked King Herod ordering the slaughter of the innocents at tax payer expense.

I can’t believe they have the audacity to pin everything and anything on the (R)s on this one…

the msm hailed them as patriots for obstructing all of Bush’s agenda and now we are called the ‘do nothing’ party for doing what they did for 6 yrs…i just want to scream!

I’m listening and she makes me almost as sick as Nelson did on the radio yesterday.

I love the signs Missouri is hanging up of MCCaskill.

HuffPoop isn’t the only frustrated lefty:

AMY GOODMAN: President Obama—what is your reaction to his speech today?

PRESIDENT HUGO CHAVEZ: [translated] Obama is a big frustration. In my opinion, Obama can become one of the biggest frustrations in the history for many people, not for me, but the people of the United States that voted for him and saw him as a symbol of hope for change. But he has given continually to the most aggressive Bush policies, the imperialist policies.

This society is filled with an incurable rot and I doubt there are enough lovers of liberty left to stop its spread.

rplat on December 22, 2009 at 7:43 AM

That incurable rot won’t sustain itself, every bit as unwilling (and unable) as lovers of liberty are to pay the increased costs incurred. All those who campaigned as if winners for catastrophic calamity sooner than later are the straw breaking the camel’s back, not messiahs.

The elected Majority remaining deaf to the People’s Voice and the Constitution are attempting to enslave our nation. Their gluttonous greed is their own downfall. God offered to spare Sodom and Gomorrah for the sake of 10 righteous men. Though no nation can thwart the natural outcome of their works given the inevitability of the refiner’s fire, we can pray for the preservation of our gifts from Providence, our Constitution, that good triumph over evil, that good people exercise faith.

HOLD MARXISTS TO THEIR FRAUD.
NEVER RELINQUISH OUR RIGHTS.
KEEP THE SPIRIT!

Ecclesiastes 3
A Time for Everything
1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
9 What does the worker gain from his toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. 13 That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God. 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.

15 Whatever is has already been,
and what will be has been before;
and God will call the past to account.

16 And I saw something else under the sun:
In the place of judgment—wickedness was there,
in the place of justice—wickedness was there.

17 I thought in my heart,
“God will bring to judgment
both the righteous and the wicked,
for there will be a time for every activity,
a time for every deed.”

18 I also thought, “As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. 19 Man’s fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless. 20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. 21 Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”

22 So I saw that there is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work, because that is his lot. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him?

Proverbs 1:

2 “To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

4 To give subtlety to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

10 If sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

15 Walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

33 Whoever listens to this Wisdom will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.” -Proverbs 1

“The beginning of wisdom is: get wisdom; at the cost of all you have, get understanding. Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” —Proverbs 4:7,28

“He who loves correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.” —Proverbs 12:1

He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.” -Proverb 28:9

The man who remains stiff-necked and hates rebuke will be crushed suddenly beyond cure.” —Proverbs 29:1

I can’t wait until the 20 somethings realize that they are the biggest losers in this healthcare bill.

They will be required to buy health insurance or pay a fine of $750.
If they already have health insurance rated on their good health, it will be jacked up 200/300% to pay for 50 year olds that smoke, are obese and have a heart condition.
It will be jacked up because pre-existing conditions are not excluded. So the buddy that rode his motorcycle 150MPH and cracked up, will be paying the same rate as him.

All Hopey big Changey.

So now the libtards are complaining about their failed saviour?Big deal, they are just going to continue voting for the same crazy Democraps.Every one of the libs who are now complaining about Bambi WILL vote for him in 2012.
He is playing the game that Clenis played i.e. make promises you can’t or have no intention of keeping, spend two years f!!!ing things up and after the Republicans take over and make things look better, accept credit for the fix that wasn’t a fix at all.
It makes no difference what he does or doesn’t do,the only thing that matters to Democrap voters is to vote for the Democrap .Then we end up with self-serving Republicans running the country, who just delay the problems till the next administation takes over.So the cycle of Dems and Reps just passing the reins of power to one another will continue, with the Party being the most important thing. To hell with the people, preserve the Party, and line your pockets with tax-payer money.
The only answer to our country’s dilemma is to vote them ALL out-twice.TWO CYCLES-NO INCUMBENTS.
