Choose the Obamateurism of the Year!
posted at 8:05 am on December 21, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
We’ve been highlighting the amateurish stumbles of our new President since March, and now it’s time for Hot Air readers to pick the Obamateurism of the Year! Over the next few days, I’ll offer polls in different brackets (or “flights”) of previous Obamateurism of the Week winners, and you’ll pick the winners between five or six selections in a new poll each day, except Christmas. I also hand-selected a few second-place winners in a second-chance bracket, which will run next week. After we’ve narrowed down to eight finalists, Hot Air readers will select the OOTY!
Be sure to vote — and to enjoy a trip down Memory Lane:

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Yep, the bow.

The Stimulus legislation debacle–from concept, to development, to salesmanship, to execution, to results (short and long term)–is the most revealing and important amateurish mistake of this President’s first year.

The Austrian language was tempting, but he’s gotten more long term grief over the bow.

That stunt at Georgetown University was despicable. It was an early indication of the radicalism he was going embrace in office. Like every typical Marxist, they are hostile to religion because it competes with their wretched ideology.
elduende on December 21, 2009 at 8:15 AM
The bow to the Saudi king, because if one of the “conspiracy theories” out there is that you are a closet Muslim, then bowing to a Muslim leader is just…stupid.

Ogabe presuming himself worthy to take the oath of office.
The ultimate Ogabeturism.

I bet Obama has never even SEEN a Model T Ford. As far as mileage, the 1924 T roadster I had in high school got around 15 miles per gallon. Give or take a little. A 4 1/2″ bore and 4 1/2″ stroke tends to do that to an engine.
One thing IS for sure: Obama is a bigger bore than the T Model Ford any day of the week. And twice on Sundays.

It’s gotta be the bow. That’s not humility, it’s subservience you ivory tower jackass! That’s not what we were looking for in a Leader of the Free world.
trubble on December 21, 2009 at 8:27 AM
absolutely they tripped over themselves like the sycophants they are to screw their own heritage so they could be “accepted”. Meanwhile, tell them to give back the multi million dollar blood money bribe the Saudis gave them a few years ago and see what happens.

The “OOTY Awards”! I like the sound of that.
What should the award look like?
Hummm, based on the way the senate acts maybe it should be the B”OOTY” rewards.
mechkiller_k on December 21, 2009 at 8:34 AM
The ultimate Obamateurism is the belief that he and Axelrod hold that they could market Obama as a centrist during the election and then after the election maintain the illusion of Obama as a centrist through additional marketing efforts, while Obama governed as a lefty, believing that they could fool the American people into buying their bait and switch. It didn’t work.
WordsMatter on December 21, 2009 at 8:34 AM
I happen to own a Model T and a recent Suburban. The Suburban often tows the T and still gets better mileage. In addition the Suburban is safe, comfortable and easy to drive – all things the T does not provide.
Aside from that the bow to the Saudi king is clearly the winner here.

Crux Australis on December 21, 2009 at 8:44 AM
Bowing to the Saudi King is symbolic of Obama’s foreign policy. Appease the jerks from around the world (he is the citizen of the world you know) while wrecking America.
cubachi on December 21, 2009 at 8:47 AM
Considering the logo for this event is the multi-bowing Dear Leader, this one was pretty easy to call. However, I am sure there are a few out there that are more deserving of the OOTY!
Will there be a trophy for the winning OOW? An event, or dinner so the winner can give a speech – following a teleprompter of course? I know gaffs cannot speak, but there must be a way to honor the winner of this inaugural contest. After all, this is supposed to be the most historic presidency ever.
InTheBellyoftheBeast on December 21, 2009 at 8:47 AM
This is going to be difficult to narrow down. There are just so many good ones to choose from.
BadgerHawk on December 21, 2009 at 8:51 AM
I voted and will probably continue to vote for the Austrian language, here’s why. He is as dumb as a box of rocks and there are times when he can’t hide it. The other thing that is illustrated is his complete and utter disregard for some groups of people. He doesn’t give a crap what Austrians speak.
The bow is how he does things. He bows to everyone and the Saudi king is the worst it is a bow of many bows.
ORconservative on December 21, 2009 at 8:56 AM
Oh, absolutely the bow. And Bush did do something similar (walking arm-in-arm, though that’s not a sign of subserviance) and the Left was all up in arms about Bush “tounge kissing” the Saudi King (what is it with the sexual content of every Leftist rant? Can’t they think with something other than their genitals?).

I went with the bow, but I think the Air Force One flyover in Manhattan should have been on the list.
Urban Infidel on December 21, 2009 at 9:18 AM
I’d add one more to the list. Duh One trying to re-enter the white house through a window, instead of the door that he used to leave the white house. sums up his and his administration’s tenure so far: no common sense, no experience, and no desire to learn from recent history in making an obvious mistake which only briefly draws a mild “aw schucks, isn’t it cute the way he screwed up royally” from the MSM.

Elections have consequences. Never has there been more evidence that liberals are a cancer.
ultracon on December 21, 2009 at 9:30 AM
I guess it really all depends on what an Obamateurism is. If it’s an amateurish mistake that he would not have made a year later, with a little experience behind him, then many of these don’t qualify. The bow to the Saudi king turns out to have been a prognosticator of his foreign policy; he’s done the same thing twice since. The flip-flop on torture is typical of his determination to be all things to all people while avoiding any responsibility for the outcomes.
So my choice depnends on whether I am voting for a real amateurish gaffe, or a signature bit that underscores his ideology. Two quite different kettles of fish. For the former, I would pick his reference to the “Austrian” because he so condescendeningly harangued Americans during the campaign for their monolinguistic proclivities. For the latter, I’d chose the bow because, as it turns out, he’s decided that his administration will bow to the world’s worst human rights abusers and thugs.
ProfessorMiao on December 21, 2009 at 9:32 AM
Some call it a bow, I call it bending over, if you know what I mean.
ndulik on December 21, 2009 at 9:33 AM
Obama stating how he has improved our image around the world when in fact he has destroyed our relationship with all our allies around the world would have been my choice.
JeffinSac on December 21, 2009 at 9:34 AM
I would have liked to vote for the second or third bow on his ‘constructive tour’ through Asia. A true Amateur never learns from ‘mistakes.’ Perhaps we could make it bowing to the world the “Amateurism of the Year”
train on December 21, 2009 at 9:36 AM
I’d also like to add that Obowma’s joke about Nancy Reagan holding seances in the White House was a classic of rank amateurism right out of the gate.
Urban Infidel on December 21, 2009 at 9:37 AM
Can we get a big Amen? My thoughts exactly. How did this nightmare happen in the first place?

But,I think Hopey/Changey needs his own category,because
he does hold the World Record as an Incompetant President,
far surpassing Carter and Clinton, and after all, this has

it will probably another century before another President
is most serving of it,or can touch it!!!!

Ed, I love this thread, and read them every day, and vote on them weekly, but I’m still holding out hope, that one might have an “all of the above” option on it. lol
Other than Obama FINALLY sending troops to Afghanistan, I gotta say….he’s a completely inept, naive, vapid president, who doesn’t have a clue about anything. So his whole administration is an obamateurism, in my opinion.
capejasmine on December 21, 2009 at 10:58 AM
Gotta hand it to you Ed, I honestly didn’t think that this tool would readily supply 365 obamateurisms in a calendar year. I think we’ll hit that grim milestone next month with certitude.
abobo on December 21, 2009 at 11:08 AM
Have to go with the flip flop on torture. Tossing loyal Americans under the bus after they kept this country safe for him to run for President. This must be the height of obamateurism/hypocrisy. Besides the bow never happened as far as the Lame Stream Media reported. hahahaha
