Brilliant Dem midterm strategy emerges: We’ll run on ObamaCare
posted at 4:54 pm on December 21, 2009 by Allahpundit
That’s half the strategy. The other half is … to blame Bush. Put them together and I’d say they’re firmly into stage one of Kubler-Ross right now.
Every fiber of my eeyorish being rebels against this feeling, but I can’t help it: I’m starting to feel optimistic about the House flipping next year. Good lord.
White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has been telling Democrats a win on the health issue will reverse the slide in public opinion, just as passage of another controversial proposal, the North American Free Trade Agreement, lifted President Bill Clinton in the polls…
“The reality, I think, will trump poll numbers in the dead of winter as this debate is going on,” White House senior adviser David Axelrod said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.”…
“If Democrats want to run on this, then we invite them to go ahead and do so. The Obama-Pelosi agenda continues to feed into the emerging 2010 narrative that this is a Congress that spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much,” Ken Spain, communications director of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said Sunday…
The Democratic leadership is particularly relying on a health victory as other domestic priorities struggle. The failure of the United Nations climate summit to reach a binding accord could cripple Mr. Obama’s chances of securing legislation to limit greenhouse-gas emissions, even after many House Democrats took a politically painful vote for legislation to cap carbon emissions.
Yes, a burdensome new cap-and-trade bill would have been quite the formidable weapon with skepticism about global warming surging in poll after poll. In fairness, CNN’s new numbers do show a modest bounce for the bill since the start of the month as the Dems creep closer to passage, but that’s from just 36 percent approval to 42 while the disapproval curve in the poll of polls remains unbent. Even if Ben Smith’s sources are right and there’s some short-term relief for Obama, what’s the big takeaway from the bill next year for the 85 percent of voters who already have insurance? There’s no public option to sweeten the pot, and no one seriously believes that the bill will reduce costs over time. The only thing the average chump gets from it is the satisfaction of watching lefties call The One a corporate sellout and a promise that if you cancel your policy, you might go to prison. For Republicans, that deal is eeyore-proof.

Democrat strategy: “We’ll run on ObamaCare.”
Republican strategy: “We’ll run on ObamaCare.”
The sad thing is that they STILL won’t admit they screwed up, claiming that people just aren’t seeing the benefits yet and that, in 2014, they’ll REALLY start racking up the votes.

Running on Obamacare makes perfect sense. The alternative is a McCain campaign where you try to explain away who you are and what you believe in or an Obama campaign where you just out and out lie
wiseprince on December 21, 2009 at 5:00 PM
UNlike the Dems, Ken Spain did not say it was a stupid idea or try to give the Dems advice. He simply told them to go ahead with the strategy. Now why don’t the Dems do that with Palin (i.e., shut up and let her talk)?

That’s sure to make it even more popular than it is now.
Good idea. I’d run on that if I were them.

Well the way the timing of the bill is playing out, it appears that they want something for the state of the union. Which seems like they intend to trumpet it. I don’t get it.

I’ve felt since last summer the House could be won. And barring anymore Scuzzy-flavor episodes, I’d bet good money on that happening now.
What exactly can the Dems run on? The deficit is out of control. Unemployment is in double figures. Porkulus is a failure. Taxes are about to skyrocket. Premiums are about to skyrocket. Foreign policy is a mess. Seriously, give me one issue they can tout as a success. I can’t come up with any.
If their strategy is to blame Bush, they may wanna take a look at the election results last month, not to mention the PPP poll that shows almost half the country would actually prefer Dubya be back in charge. Time for a Plan B, Dems.

So, posting comments here re “We’ll get in 2010″ is fine, but not if you haven’t yet given your two Senators and your Representative a full airing of your views about Obamacare. Call email or fax. Now or never folks.

Of course he’ll get a bounce. Passage will be heralded as some great leap forward for mankind, and it’ll be awhile before the consequences of that crap are felt, which is by design. It is no coincidence that it doesn’t start “benefits” until 2014.
Meanwhile, those that oppose it are just Aryan Nation types who want slavery back, or something. Sigh.

And no serious effort made on the unemployment front, no attention to the private sector other than the usual demonizing of business. Yeah, that’ll work.
What did they used to say? “It’s the economy, stupid?” Something like that.
Oh, I almost forgot. The other thing the Dems will do is to continue to malign those who disagree with the usual name-calling. That’s an effective technique. /not
So, they’re definitely on the right track as far as I’m concerned. From their ashes the Republic will rise.

Why are run-of-the-mill democrats for this healthcare bill? I understand the congress – they are in positions to benefit from selling the rest of us out. But do non-politicians not realize that they’ll have to get medical services from the same, shrunken market as the rest of us? Are they pleased about being forced to purchase the health insurance that some bureaucrat will decide is appropriate? Do they not realize they will suffer the effects of the lack of medical innovation, just as the rest of us will? This bill changes the medical world for all of us, and that includes the politicians. Oh sure, they can get the best health care now, but the medical field is bound to decline under the legal restraints being imposed on it. Mr. Reid’s great-grandchildren will not be able to secure benefits of medical innovations that never took place any more than my grandchildren will.

Now, if the GOP would summarize the bill in format that can be simply understood by the electorate then we might have something. They need to have a simple table of cost and list the affect on every taxpayer. There’s enough in this monster to make anyone and everyone ready to go to war but it must be properly articulated to the people.

I think the Dems are on a high with health care close to becoming a reality. They honestly believe that all of us are as mindless as key components of their voting blocks, that they can keep slinging the BS with promises for the future.
They’re really stupid enough to believe that Americans who will foot the bill will accept this travesty. What any sensible person should be asking is whether or not these people are to be kept in office and in charge of the health care industry when they bought “Climate Change.” There’s a pattern, here. heh.
But I despise liberals. The pattern never changes, and they remain in adulthood as clueless as two year olds who dash out into traffic expecting someone to save them.

If the economy stays in the tank the Dems will have nothing else to run on.
Look for the slogan: “The Republicans want to take away YOUR health care.”
The Republicans will then respond: “No, we don’t want to take away YOUR health care, we just want to tweak that bill a little by adding coverage for this and this and this …”
Face it, once this is done it’ll be back to business as usual with the Dems defending government control as defending your right to such and such a thing and the Republicans running as Dems lite.
It won’t end till the swamp is drained.

Sure, why shouldn’t they run on it?
They’ve BS’d and hoodwinked their way this far with nothing but spin that seems to work exceedingly well on the “what’s Tiger up to NOW” media and the diversion addicted mass of the general public that really could give as much of a flip about ‘that politics stuff’ as they could about world-class curling.
Talking politics these days to most folks works about as well as walking into a nail salon filled with flighty teenage girls getting ready for the prom and bringing up, shuffleboard, or something equally as thrilling. Starting to unload the details of the sausage making in progress goes over with the homogenized cliche slogan and soundbite crowd about like a reading of Tolstoy’s works on helium.
For all the ‘ooo, oooo, looky, the polls moved a half a point’ – well, there really hasn’t been that much of a tectonic shift of opinion that can’t be attributed to anything much more than sheer annoyance factor to those seeking mindless entertainment.
But, on the other hand, I tend to be optimistic about such things.

Yeah, look guys… We’ve bleated on for awhile now about how if the Dems didn’t get it passed with majorities, it was their own fault, cause they could pass anything they want.
Well, look at them – they’re doing just that.
With our money in their pocket, they can and will continue to bribe whoever it takes to pass whatever the hell they want.
We *will* get this healthcare bill.
We *will* get cap and trade.
We *will* get amnesty if they decide they want it (and don’t think they aren’t thinking about making 10′s of millions of new Democrat voters in time for the ’10 and ’12 elections).
We’ve wasted a year hoping to stem the tide, ‘oh, wait for the next election’, etc – going to be too late, guys.
Nothing will surprise me as they pull out all of the stops to ensure they don’t take a big hit in the next election. And if they think they *will* get hammered in ’10? We’re going to see continued cramming of the most aggregious left-wing lawmaking we’ve ever seen in the next 11 months…
The founders would’ve been at war months ago. But by all means, let’s be optimistic. It hasn’t stopped the Dems at any of the last several milestones to tyranny, but by all means, maybe it will for the next one. Or the one after that. Or…

NAFTA,unlike Obamacare, was truly a bipartisan efforts.
George H.W Bush had most of it worked out before Clinton too over and tweaked it. It was ratified by Congress with suppport half from Republians and half from Democrats.
That bipartisan nature was why Clinton’s approval went up.
Obamacare, however, is completely partisan and only paritsan Democrat voters even support it.
