Quotes of the day

posted at 9:30 pm on December 19, 2009 by Allahpundit

“‘Death panels.’

“The claim set political debate afire when it was made in August, raising issues from the role of government in health care to the bounds of acceptable political discussion. In a nod to the way technology has transformed politics, the statement wasn’t made in an interview or a television ad. Sarah Palin posted it on her Facebook page…

“The editors of PolitiFact.com, the fact-checking Web site of the St. Petersburg Times, have chosen it as our inaugural ‘Lie of the Year.’

***
“The Democrats are irresponsibly and disingenuously claiming that the bill would cost $871 billion over 10 years. But that’s not what the CBO says. Rather, the CBO says that $871 billion would be the costs from 2010 to 2019 for expansions in insurance coverage alone. But less than 2 percent of those ’10-year costs’ would kick in before the fifth year of that span. In its real first 10 years (2014 to 2023), the CBO says that the bill would cost $1.8 trillion — for insurance coverage expansions alone. Other parts of the bill would cost approximately $700 billion more, bringing the bill’s full 10-year tab to approximately $2.5 trillion — according to the CBO…

“And what would Americans get in return for this staggering sum? Well, the CBO says that health care premiums would rise, and the Chief Actuary at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services says that the percentage of the Gross Domestic Product spent on health care would rise from 17 percent today to 21 percent by the end of 2019. Nationwide health care costs would be $234 billion higher than under current law. How’s that for ‘reform’?

CBO is explaining that the legislation’s claim to fiscal responsibility requires cutting in half the rate of growth of per capita Medicare spending. And, according to CBO, absent magical greater efficiencies in the delivery of health care, accomplishing those fiscal goals might well require reducing access to health care and/or diminishing the quality of health care. So less access and lower quality is a very real possible consequence of this legislation. This is a point critics of the bill cannot allow to be lost in all the hubbub.

In short, fire up the Death Panels.

BuckeyeSam on December 19, 2009 at 9:51 PM

Sadly the real death panel was in the stimulus bill. But the most recent study shows that medicare has a higher denial of services rate than private insurance. Those “deniers” are death panels.

mobydutch on December 19, 2009 at 9:56 PM

Speaking of Death Panels, I’d hate to be a wealthy member of a liberal family during 2010. Our Democratic Congress and our Democratic president have done nothing to avoid the one-year repeal of the federal estate tax. As a result, the estate of any decedent dying during 2010 will avoid federal estate tax. Sure, the beneficiaries will take a carryover basis in the assets received, but it could be a real boondoggle.

Get ready to pull the plugs on your elders, libs.

What a sad time for America. We are spending way beyond her means. This bill will cripple her for years to come. The sad thing is those that are supposed to be looking out for her are the ones that have now crippled her. Those in charge are lying and behind closed doors, bribes are made, but when this bill comes to pass there will be cheering, clapping, and parties to celebrate her demise.
Soon she will be on her own countries will not us out because our elected officials decided to spend beyond our means and not cut spending.
In 2010 and 2012 I hope the liberals are out of power, if they are not then who knows how long she will be able to hold on to what the founders of this country had in mind for her.

Brat4life on December 19, 2009 at 9:58 PM

He isn’t wearing a tie because he has no understanding of the office. He is just a small time grifter elevated way past his competency and understanding by forces much larger than he is. His comfort, at this moment, overrides all other considerations. He is dumb.

A “scumbag” is a used condom. Bama is a scumbag. He has been used to frag this country, and when no longer useful, will be consigned to a factual, if not literal, wastebasket, where one puts a scumbag. Part of the sadness in this opera is he really doesn’t get it, what he is and where he is headed.

So we move on to the next part of this fiasco, and it isn’t over yet, but things are grim. So we fall back as need be, form a line, continue the fight. At least we can look in the mirror tomorrow morning honestly. Bama doesn’t have that option, in reality.

In HIS reality, I think he is losing faith…listen to the voice praising the Copenhagen farce. Not all of the lack of enthusiasm is because TOTUS was not there. I think our boy is running out of gas. He never has done hard work. Never bled from his nose and kept going. He is bleeding from the nose, figuartively, and he doesn’t know how to deal with it. It was all so easy, and now he’s taking flak and can’t vote “present” to duck it.

To those who voted for this clown, everything you needed to know was on the table, by omission or comission, that you could see and that too important for you to see (college transcripts come to mind). Eat it, clowns.

24 million. Remember that number.

24 million.

The New Fascist Party, f/k/a, the democrats, will use the 24 million they are going to leave uninsured as a way to seek more control of this nation. The thing is, in the not too distant future, the American people will do the same to the Fourth Reich as The Greatest Generation did to the Third Reich in the ’40s.

madmonkphotog on December 19, 2009 at 10:02 PM

The “Death Panel” is already in place. It consists of Osama Obama, his traitorous backers and friends, and the Democrat majority in congress.

They don’t want to kill a few sick or elderly people, though. They want to kill an entire country. And they are succeeding.

If we are to survive, the “word of 2010″ may well be “revolution.” I don’t see sanity taking hold without mass civil disobedience. I fear it may take more than that.

My doctor, whom I really loved, retired five years ago at 54. He was very much irritated at the ‘illegals’ situation. I’m sure all of you know just how hard it is to find a doctor that you really like. Mine got out of the business way too young. But I’ll say, if it weren’t for the illegals, he’d be retiring now.

I’ll bet that once this 0bamaCare program actually gets started ‘providing health coverage’ it will cost at least one trillion dollars PER YEAR. Minimum.

And will deliver such lousy services that Americans that can afford it will want to go to China or India or somewhere to get their needed care.

“The editors of PolitiFact.com, the fact-checking Web site of the St. Petersburg Times, have chosen it as our inaugural ‘Lie of the Year.’”

Read that whole article and not one time do they refute this:

Really…”lie of the year”…then why did the democrats drop this provision after Palin brought it up…..:

Sara Palin was right:

Breaking: Finance Committee to drop end-of-life provision

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 13, 2009 02:35 PM
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/08/13/breaking-finance-committee-to-drop-end-of-life-provision/

Just in from The Hill:

The Senate Finance Committee will drop a controversial provision on consultations for end-of-life care from its proposed healthcare bill, its top Republican member said Thursday.

The committee, which has worked on putting together a bipartisan healthcare reform bill, will drop the controversial provision after it was derided by conservatives as “death panels” to encourage euthanasia.

The “liberal leaning”(notice how they state “conservative leaning through out the article) St. Pete Times gives us a bunch of quotes and opinions but does not address the fact that democrats dropped provisions based on what Palin exposed.

This is no different than how the press lied and spun trying to cover up for the democrats when Wilson exposed that they had no provisions in the healthcare bill that enforced keeping illegals from getting free healthcare.

Wilson exposed this major opening forcing democrats to address the loop holes while the press concentrated on how evil Wilson was for calling Obama what democrats called Bush for 8 years.

Unfortunately this bill still allows illegals to receive healthcare on the taxpayers dime.

Ask Texas,Arizona,New Mexico, and Southern California how that has worked out.

lying is pretty much one of the few things democrats are really good at.

Sorry to hear that because I do know how hard it is to find a doctor who takes the time to get to know you and your health history.

I believe that between 2011 and 2013 we will see a larger than normal exodus of doctors in the 55-65 age group followed by a bigger exodus in 2015 if this goes into effect in 2013.
The tort lawyers getting that 5 year, 50 million package in the Reid deal will send many doctors over the edge if they weren’t already there with Medicare and the illegals.

We had ‘I will close gitmo before the end of the year’ mentioned on both national and international stages. Also a total lie.

When I have some time I’m going to have a look at their “Obameter” and see how much a$$-covering they do for Teh One.

ddrintn on December 19, 2009 at 10:30 PM

The major a$$ covering the St. Pete times and Obamameter are doing for him already should give a good indication.

Most of the promises kept are bullsh!t like :

Ask people and businesses to conserve electricity

No. 266: Encourage water-conservation efforts in the West

Wow!!!
Why don’t they give Obama some major credit for feeding the dog and telling Michelle how tone her arms are.

Could the St.Pete Times lower the bar any further here.

No. 208: Improve relations with Turkey, and its relations with Iraqi Kurds

(Obama went there and gave a speech)
(Obama talked to Turkish diplomats at the White House)

This is it????
Where is the concrete evidence that the Kurds and Turkey are on the same page…that the PKK are eliminated as a threat.

They are giving Obama credit for improving relations in a major, violent insurgency between Kurdish insurgents and Turkey because Obama gave a speech.

How about some reality St. Pete Obama suck ups:

The leader of the DTP, Ahmet Turk, addresses the media after his party was banned [AFP]

Kurdish demonstrators have clashed with Turkish police a day after Turkey’s pro-Kurdish political party was banned by the constitutional court.

A crowd threw firebombs and rocks at police vehicles including an armoured bus in the town of Yuksekova close the border with Iraq on Saturday.

Police detained about a dozen protesters in the neighboring city of Hakkari, officials said.

The move came after after a mob attempted to lynch two police officers but were prevented by local Kurdish politicians, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported.

This happened this just week…..

…….. Great job Obama!!!!

Yea Obama deserves all the credit for this major improvement of relations between the Kurds and Turkey.

Look!!!…
………..more success by Obama!!!!!

# Through 2008 and 2009 activists have reported increase human rights violations and restrictions particularly in areas such as the temporary security zones.

# According to the KHRP, this has included freedom of movement including road blocks and checkpoints particularly during military operations, as well as arbitrary detentions, and allegations of extrajudicial killings

# Civil associations have continued to call for parties to the conflict to arrive at a peace. In September 2009, tens of thousands of Kurds in a rally in Dyabakir would urge the Government to reach a peace deal with PKK. Several thousand would also march in Istanbul.

# Intermittent clashes would continue in 2009 between both parties.

Debunking liberal lies by the press is to easy and shows just how full of sh!t the MSM is.

I bet these idiots believe the stimulus is working also.

Apparently the St. Pete’s Pulitzer is worth about as much as Obama’s and Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize….
……absolutely nothing.

I am really curious as to what the ratings will be for the next SOTU speech.
Anyone wanna bet it’ll have the fewest viewers for a SOTU speech ever?

I knew this man was a liar from day one and have never listened to one of his speeches since NOV 2008. His magic is his words. I refuse to be taken in by them. i read his speeches but I never listen to him and when he speaks I turn off the tv or the radio.

This man is pure evil and I can not stand the sound of his voice for a second.

The times I’ve checked PolitiFact.com I found them less than honest. For example death panels. They way they define it, no there are no death panels. However, when Palin said it I knew exactly what she was referring to: that bureaucratic panels would make decisions on whether or not you would receive treatment, medications, etc., which would affect your quality of life including resulting in death. So contrary to that lying ratb*stard website, Politifact, there are death panels. It’s not hard to envision – they do it in Canada and the UK.
