Awesome: MoveOn comes out against ObamaCare
posted at 5:45 pm on December 18, 2009 by Allahpundit
Not a shock given the Pretty Vicious Rants and Important Action Alerts emanating from Nutrootsville these days, but if Sanders, Burris, or Feingold need an extra nudge to vote no, this might do it.
But it’s not too late to fix the bill. And as Joe Lieberman has shown, just one senator willing to stand in the way can force legislation to be changed dramatically.
Senator Bernie Sanders, a strong proponent of the public option, has already made clear that he’s opposed to the legislation in its current form—and he could decide to block it until it’s fixed.3
But there’s enormous pressure from all sides to pass a bill quickly, no matter how weak it is. Let’s show Bernie and other progressives that we’re counting on them to block this version of the bill—and we’ll get their backs if they do.
Can you sign our petition opposing the current Senate health care bill? Clicking here will add your name:
Be sure to follow the link and sign, my fellow progressives. Or better yet, start calling liberal senators and be sure to mention this poll to the aide you speak with. Sure, the data’s bogus insofar as polling on the public option is horribly compromised, but we’re at the “any weapon to hand” point here. By my count, there are five Democrats who are undecided: Nelson, the three named above, and Jim Webb, although the only one who’s explicitly threatening a no on cloture rather than the final bill is Nelson. Meanwhile, Reid’s margin of error if he wants this done by Christmas can, quite seriously, be measured in … hours.
Here’s MoveOn’s attack ad about Lieberman, which is dumb but creative and worth watching for the impersonation of Joementum. I’ll leave you with one more poll: According to PPP, Republicans who are angry with their leadership still plan to vote GOP next year by a margin of 77/12. Democrats who are angry with their party? Just 54/38. Help them, George W. Bush, you’re their only hope!

If they think the “still party of Bush” will fly in 2010, they’re nuttier than assumed.
Interesting – clerks from Sen. Coburn’s office are being bombarded with calls from Democrats, including from CA, lauding his move to have Sanders’ amendment read, and encouraging him to keep going.

I know it’s too late for this, but… It’s not Waterloo. It’s not Waterloo. It’s not Waterloo.
Could be a lot closer to the invasion of Russia, Napoleon’s or Adolf’s, but we can stick with Bonaparte. If so, Waterloo is very far off, yet (and don’t forget ’twas a close-run thing).

I figured it would finally happen, they cannot hold their many different nutty factions together. They all want a utopia but they all have a different end version, they all want their own pot of gold. At this point, if they can help stop this abhorent and unconstitutional bill, I hope they do. Anything to buy more time to get this bill into the sunlight and let the public know what is in it.

i suspect this is more about the conference report than anything. so they’ll want their boys to vote for cloture, then vote for the conference version.
the conference version will have a public option…and pass by 53 votes.
chll, MoveOn and Soros and all the little fruitcakes will be happy at the end of the day.

Oh for goodness sake Allah they are just playing “bad cop, worse cop” – (and it’s a fund raiser, but what isn’t for them?).
Obama is supposed to look like a moderate if they come out in force against it. Obamacare is obviously not that bad if the nutters don’t want it. Don’t fall for it.
Moveon & the nutters could care less if the only thing left in the bill is that it forces the masses to pay for the coverage of their pet hamsters, once they get a toe in the door they are in.
The only good bill is a dead bill.

I feel like the term Waterloo is getting used about every 3 days. When all is said and done I suspect that everyone’s going to define a different point in time as President Obama’s Waterloo, but personally I think it was ‘death panels’.
That was the beginning of the end, when the uninformed and independents really started having their eyes opened as to what Hopenchange was really all about.

This will make a Saturday night cloture vote very difficult for Reid. I mean, if Joe can’t get back to Washington after sundown Saturday due to inclement weather — thank You, God — this would put the final vote off past Christmas.
How perfect that this bill could well find its deserved demise because of a religious duty and bad weather.

I’m with ya on this. I think there is some kind of strategy going on here to make this look like Republicans should like this bill and vote for it and maybe pull in one or both of the Maine sisters to cover for Nelson, letting him off the hook. The left doth protest too much, methinks. My guess is they get through anything with 60 votes, go to conference and add in the public option, then go with Reconciliation because the American public has demanded it by signing all these petitions.
They all know killing the Ones main piece of legislation will kill him and any future agenda when they can go back later and tweak it. The peons on the ground have no idea but the big backers with the money are in on it.

I never, ever agree with MoveOn. And I’m not going to agree with them now over this. Because their idea of fixing the bill is quite the opposite of what I want and that is to kill the bill outright.
Then I want medical tort reform, interstate insurance commerce, and rules to prevent insurance companies from dropping medical preconditions.
It should take only three pages of paper to write this bill.
Kini on December 18, 2009 at 6:47 PM

DrW on December 18, 2009 at 6:48 PM
It doesn’t seem to have occurred to MoveOn et al that they wouldn’t have handed all this power and influence to Senator Lieberman, or any other single Senator, if they hadn’t embraced a pure partisan strategy, trying to unite the left side of the Congress instead of working from the center out.
They decided, quite deliberately, to give Lieberman this power months ago.

I fear all this screamin from the left is just to gin up support and to fool the American 52% into supporting them when the Public Option is added back in in conference. Then they only need 51 votes when it comes back to the Senate and the Nelsons’, Liebermans’ etc. can vote no and say see there I was against it.

A snow storm is heading to WaDC and apparently a lot of the eastern seaboard is under a winter storm warming. (Weather Channel says 1-2 FEET of snow at WaDC. “remarkable for this time of year”) Lieberman goes home for the Sabbath and might not make it back for the vote because of the snow. Obama is in Copenhagen pitching global warming in the middle of record snow storms. GLOBAL WARMING!! HA! Is God funny or what? You go, God! The follies of men…
As far as signing a petition at MoveOn.org–not so much. I don’t want my computer associated with anything that organization stands for and I certainly don’t want my name on any “document” coming from them to whomever.

What percentage does MoveOn represent? .1%? What percent does KO’s audience represent? .005%? Ed Shultz – .001%, and so on down the line ….. Add it all up and what do you got? A little under 10% of the country wanting stronger government intervention. Oh, I almost forgot about David Brooks. I think he is part of it too but exactly where he fits into that mix of miscreants I’ll leave up to Rahm to decide.
The democrats in office should be laughing at these aforementioned people and organizations. Although, there are a few exceptions: Pelosi, Reid, Sanders need those people and any other socialist liberal I’ve forgot to mention. Are not they the people on the ground & their biggest campaign boosters?
If the democrats can’t find another Grover Cleveland type of leader, they might as well join the Socialist Party and make it official. That is what MoveOn & all the other “so called” progressives want. Oh, Hillary too. Pledging Billions of Dollars toward a sham in Copenhagen. What the hell is a Sec of States job anyway? What page did she lift that socialist idea from? What a career ending pledge to make at a Marist get together.
It was the Independants & moderate democratic voters who were [duped in to hope & change rhetoric] pursuaded in order for the democrats to be where they are at today. The liberal democrats don’t have to worry about losing their ultra-left wing base. It is the I’s and the Mod’s that they have become disenfranchised. The dem’s ran as centrist but they govern [legislate] as big spending high taxing socialist liberals. The dem’s in the leadership of their party tells them not to worry about getting re-elected, but without a villain to point their finger at now, the moderate democrats themselves are being portrayed as this villain. The moderates better wise up to that fact & fast.
They 110th & 111th arrived because of vicious attacks of the previous administration and also they were accusing the 108th & 109th congress of government wasting billions of tax dollars, violating individual rights with the patriot act, homeland security and so on ….. The far left made the republicans out to be villains and the misinformed citizenry took the bait.
In just under 3 years the 110th & 111th congress has out spent all previous bodies of congress in US history. Guess what follows? The highest tax increases since Jimmy Carter’s time in office or maybe worse. Suck on that!
When your seated at a table playing poker, if you are trying to figure out who the sucker is, your problem is solved, you’re it.

I’m calling BS. MoveOn OWNs more than enough Democrats in both the House and the Senate that if they TRULY wanted the bill killed, they wouldn’t have to announce it… they would simply make a couple of phone calls… This move stinks. Pelosi “left town” and is now in “campaign mode” and will not ask her members to vote on anything controversial…. sine the Senate bill does not match the House bill and they don’t have time to reconcile it, they ONLY way the House can do it is to vote it through. I don’t believe ANY of it.
