Video: “Today” show now covering mega-scandal involving Palin’s visor
posted at 4:10 pm on December 17, 2009 by Allahpundit
I’m torn. On the one hand, the fact that the most popular morning “news” show in America would devote even 25 seconds to this idiocy is depressing. On the other hand, if trying to drive a few extra readers/viewers to your product with gratuitous coverage of Palin is a crime, let me be guilty.
The whole story in one line: She wore a visor emblazoned with the McCain campaign logo while on vacation in Hawaii — except that the logo was blacked out! Sort of. Smoking-gun proof that she hates McCain? Not quite:
The hotel where she was staying had to chase away five photographers, a friend said.
Palin said in the statement to POLITICO: “I am so sorry if people took this silly incident the wrong way. I adore John McCain, support him 100 percent and will do everything I can to support his reelection. As everyone knows, I was honored and proud to run with him. And Todd and I were with him in D.C. just a week ago. So much for trying to be incognito.”
Not so fast, counters TMZ. As Andrew Sullivan, uterine detective, always says, with Palin things are never as they seem:
So Palin — who wears many hats — would have us believe A) the visor could transform her into an ordinary, anonymous soccer mom as she frolicked with her now-famous family in Hawaii and B) blacking out the name of the Presidential running mate whose campaign staff trashed her was an innocent gesture, devoid of motive.
So the theory of the crime is that she blacked out the visor to insult Maverick, even though (a) because the logo is sunk into the material, the ink on the surface actually makes it more legible, and (b) if she wanted to trash McCain, she could have done it in her book and cashed in on the extra buzz that would have meant for sales. But why do something like that when you can totally pwn him with your headgear instead?
Too bad Sullivan’s on hiatus, as his take on this would have been fascinating. Perhaps Sullivans #2 and 3 can “channel” him and let us know what he thinks? Exit question via the latest numbers from Gallup: Is she ever again going to be north of 50 percent favorable?

Allah just continues Hot Air’s daily march to mediocrity.
This is indeed a story, if for no other reason than to show the left mind media is worthless. But good old Allah couldn’t leave it at that.
Allah, you are right, she was attempting to “hide” in plain sight. That, for her, will never happen again. The hate bloggers up in Alaska have actually posted complete directions to her home, along with maps, satellite photos, ground photos, her physical address, as well as an invite for every loon in the country to “come on down.”
They also have claimed they are building a “mansion” on their “compound” when in fact, it’s just a big shop and garage, with an apartment above for Bristol.
It’s no wonder she’s had to hire mega security.
But Allah, as always, just when one holds out hope, you never let us down. You never fail to completely and totally disappoint.
Will Sarah’s poll numbers ever go above 50 percent? They already have! Rasmussen had her at 51 percent. And we all know Rasmussen, at least for now, is the gold standard.
Of course, rather than doing your job, you were too busy looking for tabloid stuff. Some way to marginalize.
Exit question, will Allah ever get a clue?

I often wonder, how much Michell, or the tax payers pay, for those huge weight lifting belts Michelle wears. You know…the ones that ride up over her gut, and rest just beneath her chest? LOL Even I would be kind enough to tell Michelle NOT to wear those…but I’m a better friend to people than Michelles friends are to her.

Palin responded to Eugene Robinson with a letter that is up at WaPo.com:
Why bother reading this, I’m sure none of what she says here are the “real reasons” for her position, and The Amazing RINO will put the envelope to his head and tell us all what she “really” meant by these words.
Brian1972 on December 17, 2009 at 7:05 PM
People in this country seriously need to mind their own business. Buy your own health care. Bail yourself out. Let Tiger Woods deal with his own marriage problems. And leave Sarah Palin alone to enjoy the beach with her family.

OK. For the record, I think Palin as a candidate would be a disaster to the party. HOWEVER:
This “controversy” is total crap. Total crap. Her “incognito” story is entirely believeable.
How do we know?
Look at her in those pictures. Really LOOK.
She looks like CRAP.
Sarah Palin.
Looking like crap.
Sarah Palin does not DO “crap looking.”
She just doesn’t.
Anyone — ANYONE — with half a brain knows she did NOT intend her appearance that day for public consumption.
Hence, no slight to John McCain.

voxpopuli on December 17, 2009 at 7:52 PM
Well, it is kind of weird to wear a visor with a logo, and then black that logo out, when a new non-logo visor would be so easy to come by.
I’m not sure that it’s a scandal but I know that I’d never black out a logo on my hat. I’d leave the logo alone or wear a different hat.
I just love hats, I guess.

PEOPLE OF POLITICO, TODAY SHOW, …. and ALLAHPUNDIT:
SARAH PALIN IS A CITIZEN … NOT PRESIDENT… YET.*
Stop making every turn of Palin a news. 2012 is still far away.
These kinds of publicity gives Palin an “undue” advantage over other candidates, like Romney and Huck.
*Not entirely correct. At least 40% of Americans unconciously believe that their current People’s President is Palin. Teh One in the White House is just a dummy.
TheAlamos on December 17, 2009 at 11:35 PM
The only story here is that Palin is too damned naive to be president, let alone vice president. Why on earth would she not just buy a new visor- could she not afford the 3 bucks being the massive celebrity author and all? It’s small things like this piled on top of each other that solidify my belief that she just has no clue what she’s doing.
TheBlueSite on December 17, 2009 at 11:50 PM

If she didn’t think a move like that would cause her potential problems, she’s clueless. Clueless candidates worry me. Especially clueless candidates who say stupid crap like, “golly, I think it’s fine to ask for proof of Obama’s birth certificate!” I despise Hitchens, but his recent article on Palin’s nonsense is spot on.
Even I would figure that blacking out a visor like that would cause issues, and I’ve never run for anything. Why is a candidate who ran as VP not have the sense to know this?
TheBlueSite on December 17, 2009 at 11:58 PM

PALIN! PALIN! PALIN!
joedoe on December 18, 2009 at 7:42 AM
(1) Palin has endorsed John Mccain and has always been nothing but positive about him.
(2) The favorability will increase as more people finish reading her book. I’m out there working for her every day on Twitter and Facebook. I’ve heard from several people who sought me out to tell me that the book opened their eyes, inspired them to become better people, etc. There was even a positive review of her book at HuffPo yesterday. The book is changing people’s minds and energizing people, so I predict that as long as her only “crime” is trying to manipulate a logo on a hat to help maintain her anonymity, her popularity will continue to increase. In fact, things like the “hat” report will help her more than hurt her at this point.
FYI: I started and manage the Palin Twibe on Twitter and my actual Twitter account -@palintwibe – auto-tweets 200 pr-Palin blog feeds.

zoyclem on December 18, 2009 at 7:54 AM
as with ed, allah believes he belongs to the political elite and has lost any sense of reason. Palin blocked out mccains logo because the campaign is over. She blocked it out because it is a perfectly good visor and there is no reason to throw it out but it would be silly to be wearing a campaign visor around. What the political elite, especially the enlightened liberals like allah, would do is throw it out. It’s not wasteful if you are a liberal and have the best intentions.
peacenprosperity on December 18, 2009 at 7:57 AM
What did Sarah mark out? I think it says “I went to a racist anti-America, Marxist, Black Liberation Theology church for 20 years”. The media are shameless.
marklmail on December 18, 2009 at 8:01 AM
She probably should have bought another hat. It was a lapse in judgment. My question is, why is it only Palin’s lapses that are on the level of a cardinal sin but other candidates/politicians . . . not so much. There is a tendency by her detractors to define her entire worth as a human being by a poorly worded turn of phrase, a mediocre interview, an ill-chosen visor. So she’s not perfect — who cares??? Her record matters a whole lot more than stupid, petty crap like this. Compared with such examples of questionable judgment as, say, hanging around with terrorists or avowed America haters, or passing a massive, failing state-run healthcare program, or granting clemency to a thousand convicted criminals as governor (at least two of which have gone on to take innocent lives), I’d say this “Visorgate” is pretty small potatoes.

This ranks right up there with the scandal that Michelle Obama wore shorts on Air Force One. Get a life people!
highhopes on December 18, 2009 at 8:18 AM
She probably thought they would have a little privacy on the beech and her attire would have zero importance. She did misjudge the lengths that some members of the press will go to cause her harm. From this point on, she needs to remember that she will never have a completely private moment. So, keep those blinds closed!!!
Funny that the press went to all the expense of chasing her to Hawaii and all they got was a visor. lol Why have they never spent a few hours in Chicago digging into Obama’s associations?
joedoe on December 18, 2009 at 8:23 AM
God Almighty that was hilarious! LOL
True_King on December 18, 2009 at 8:26 AM
I was at C4P and of course, they state their position clearly, strongly and I understand it. HOWEVER, after reading her book, I have no issues whatsoever and will Sharpie McCain out of my “Sarah!” bumper sticker today. I despise people who treat women like crap, and her family and just don’t care.
Look I was born and raised in PR. THERE ARE NO VISORS EVERYWHERE YOU GO, OKAY? One time I needed either flip flops, or a hat, I am not into visors because the head gets too hot (in the island). Of course I have never been in Hawaii, but I bet you can find other stuff easier than visors.
I believe she had it packed, it was ok with her, she realized her recognition and her family’s draws too much attention for a vacay and perhaps she looked for one, perhaps she didn’t…being the frugal person that she is, and to avoid attention, she Sharpied themselves off.
Personally, I have had enough of him and Schmidt; I wish Arizona too, and she was very supportive and gracious of Mac. Even if she campaigns for him, I want another contender to win. The ONE thing I thank John McCain for, is Sarah. After all, we would not be here all this time if it wasn’t for him.
NOTE: SARAH SHARPIED HER NAME OUT TOO.

Sarah Palin’s got the power.
She makes her critics look like every stereotypical villain in American folklore- picture Andrea Mitchell as the evil Queen in Snow White, Katie Couric as an evil step-sister, Keith Olberman as the Wicked Witch of the West, Eleanor Clift as the Evil Chicken*.
*I know- there is no such character, but the woman always reminded me of a chicken.

Mind you, I’d love to give it a read, and was planning to do so as soon as a copy showed up at a local library or used-book store. I’m sure it would be an excellent read for the comedy value if nothing else.
