Video: “Iron Man 2″ trailer
posted at 6:09 pm on December 17, 2009 by Allahpundit
Looks spectacularly good, although so did the first one and that wasn’t incentive enough to get me to see it. (You know why.) If anything, this makes me more inclined to see “Avatar”: If the F/X there are “groundbreaking” compared to the mind-boggling F/X of flicks like this, even a three-hour sermon on eco-consciousness might be bearable.
Third year in a row, by the way, that an “Iron Man” trailer has appeared on Hot Air. What can I say? If the formula works, stick with it. Just ask Robert Downey Jr.

Blowback

I don’t see many movies in the theater, but I might go see this.
BadgerHawk on December 17, 2009 at 6:12 PM
We saw the first one, and will probably see the 2nd. Depends on the flow of cash at the time, to decide whether it’s in a theater, or at home courtesy of block buster. lol
capejasmine on December 17, 2009 at 6:14 PM
EXCELLENT! Loved the first one and the second looks likes it’s going to kick ass.
Guardian on December 17, 2009 at 6:14 PM
I’m there.
fiatboomer on December 17, 2009 at 6:14 PM
Trailers are always better than the movies themselves.
But this leaves quite a hell of a lot of breathing room…
MadisonConservative on December 17, 2009 at 6:15 PM
I dunno Allah, Iron Man 1 was pretty sweet. The squeal looks pretty good too.
Lance Murdock on December 17, 2009 at 6:15 PM
I would see this. I took my boys to see the first one at the Imax and we all whooped and had a great time.
I’d invite Dark Star but since it doesn’t have John Gielgud in the leading role, he probably wouldn’t like it.
Bishop on December 17, 2009 at 6:16 PM
I saw that trailer yesterday and I have to say it looks like a rockin good time. Also the new trailer for Clash of the Titans looks fantastic.
Warner Todd Huston on December 17, 2009 at 6:17 PM
Iron Man is what Blu-Ray was invented for. Can’t wait.
fourdeucer on December 17, 2009 at 6:17 PM
The first movie was fantastic. And now Mickey Rourke is in the film. Double the awesomeness.
“I successfully privatized world peace.” How pro-capitalist is that? can’t wait to see this in theaters.
cubachi on December 17, 2009 at 6:18 PM
Before I decide whether or not to go see this, are there any objections from Senator Franken?

Gotta see it.

Looks very cool, but I’m waiting for the blu ray uber deluxe extended directors cut collectors edition with mega bonus features and the helmet. (ok, I just made up the helmet part.)
Gosh what a mouthful.

I am so glad Mickey O’Rourke is back.
daesleeper on December 17, 2009 at 6:42 PM
And, in my opinion, she’s like the 4th or 5th best looking girl in the movie according to the imdb cast list. Seems like reasons aplenty for a good beta male like AP to go see it.
Abby Adams on December 17, 2009 at 6:42 PM
I…. am spent.
juanito on December 17, 2009 at 6:43 PM
Thanks, I’ll check it out on netflix next October. No movie is worth going to the theater anymore.
Vashta.Nerada on December 17, 2009 at 6:45 PM
The first Iron Man had him swatting around terrorists like flies. How could any conservative not go see that?
frankj on December 17, 2009 at 6:45 PM
I hope there are no terrorists getting killed in this one, the first ‘Iron Man’ had crr6 and Bleeds in therapy for months.
Bishop on December 17, 2009 at 6:47 PM
Iron Man has the worst villains.

jhffmn on December 17, 2009 at 6:52 PM
Saw this this morning! Mickey Rourke craziness, Scarlett Johansen hotness, Don Cheadle coolness, and Robert Downey in the best role of his life. It’s gonna be great! I’ll be there with all three kids, if I’m not deployed to Afghanistan come next May…
Kevin71 on December 17, 2009 at 6:52 PM
Can’t we find some hidden/overt liberal bias in the film to justify not seeing it?

Meh. I avoid action flicks like the plague.
terryannonline on December 17, 2009 at 7:14 PM
Robert Downey Jr. and Mickey Rourke, two men who have lifted themselves out of destructive lifestyles and have reinvigorated themselves and their careers.
Try doing that under socialism/marxism.
Oh, and yes, I’ll go see the movie. The first one was sweet, Downey Jr.’s sarcasm is delicious. If you haven’t seen him in “Zodiac” I recommend you give it a rent.
Left Coast Right Mind on December 17, 2009 at 7:17 PM
Any movie with Robert Downey Jr. is usually pretty good and worth seeing in the theater. There are exceptions but Robert Downey Jr. is one of my favorite actors.
Conservative Samizdat on December 17, 2009 at 7:17 PM
With the exceptions of Downey and Rourke, the cast of all-star uber-liberals scares the crap out of me. The whole franchise is like a jack-in-the-box: It played music the whole first time around, but I keep expecting the preachy liberal clown to pop out at any moment. Still, I’ll probably see it. Even though I’m somewhat underwhelmed by any “super” villain I could kill with a weapon I actually own. (Also, it seems a little early to be whipping out War Machine, doesn’t it? Are we really that bored with Iron Man already?)
Blacklake on December 17, 2009 at 7:17 PM
Well, I really enjoyed Ironman. Really Allahp, you should see it.
eaglesdontflock on December 17, 2009 at 7:23 PM
I very rarely see a film in the theater these days, the prices are just so outrageous. I choose to vote with my wallet on the value of the movie theater. I’ll put my money into netflix and enjoy being able to pause the film if I need to get up for something. A big screen, surround sound and the remote, that’s how I like to enjoy my movies.
So far as Avatar goes, I could tell from the first preview that this was going to be one big lecture on the evils of capitalism. I’ll catch the mind-blowing special effects on a film without the condescending narrative.
flyfishingdad on December 17, 2009 at 7:26 PM
Don Cheadle is a serious upgrade from that last whiney bitch who played WarMachine.
No kidding, especially scenes the the side by side pics John Nolte posted of the Jurassic Park Dinosaurs and the Smurf are making the effects not so ground breaking…
liquidflorian on December 17, 2009 at 7:30 PM
They are!And “Thor” as well, which will lead into “Avengers” with Iron Man,Hulk,Thor,Cap and some others(Vision?Scarlet Witch?Black Panther?Anyone know?)
theTarCzar on December 17, 2009 at 7:30 PM
Scarlett Johansson is playing the Black Widow, a character from the comic and Rourke’s character is Whiplash, a newish character. Don Cheadle is playing the role of James Rhodes (War Machine) that was played by Terrence Howard in the first one.

mantis on December 17, 2009 at 7:34 PM
Ditto, plus having a 2 yo at home sort of slows down the whole theater thing.
Iron Man indeed rocks. I mean, I… could be Iron Man. You… could be Iron Man. We… are the Iron Men that we have been waiting for.
Mojave Mark on December 17, 2009 at 7:36 PM
Sounds to me that AP is kinda jealous of RDJ…
…just sayin’….
RDJ if f*cking HAWT!!!!
ladyingray on December 17, 2009 at 7:38 PM
Husband and I are pretty excited about this…though, probably for different reasons.
Speaking of Avatar, I was ambivalent. This made the decision for me: http://tinyurl.com/y95ytbq
Diane on December 17, 2009 at 7:39 PM
It looks good, but one Russian nut seems a good deal less realistic as a villain than the jihadis of the first movie.
JKahn913 on December 17, 2009 at 7:41 PM
I always knew you were a f*cking loser….
ladyingray on December 17, 2009 at 7:44 PM
Last I checked, ‘ladies’ didn’t utter such ridiculous statements based on another person’s statement on what kinds of movies they liked/disliked.
Terry’s quite entitled to her own opinion…I LOVED the first Iron Man and can’t wait to see the second.
Dark-Star on December 17, 2009 at 7:52 PM
Whoever said I was a ‘lady” as “defined” by you???
Certainly not me…

Can I just say that, Robert Downey, Jr. just does it for me. Snappy repertoire, big brown eyes, sarcasm personified, ahhhh! All the stimulating conversation…whew!
shomegirl on December 17, 2009 at 8:33 PM
Not a fan of comic-book adaptations, but I DO think Robert Downey, Jr. has make a 180º with his life and I DID enjoy the first “Iron Man”, so I’ll probably see this.
I want to see “Sherlock Holmes” more.
englishqueen01 on December 17, 2009 at 8:34 PM
The other villain in Iron Man II is Justin Hammer played by Sam Rockwell. He’s the guy with the Buddy Holly like glasses sitting next to Don Cheadle (Col. James ‘Rhodney’ Rhodes aka War Machine) at the Senate hearing and walking solo when the voiceover says “there’ll be blood in the water and the sharks will come.” Justin Hammer is a rival industrialist to Tony Stark.
This movie sets up the beginning of the Armour Wars and the Avengers movie (whose leader is CAPTAIN AMERICA).
RedRobin145 on December 17, 2009 at 8:37 PM
Sounds good, but anyone want to bet that he has another liberal realization and decides to turnover control of the suit to some kind of government bureau?

I cannot wait! I CANNOT WAIT! Or can I?

I’m in. Allah, Iron Man was so good that my wife and my mother both enjoyed it. (of course they watched the DVD and didn’t go to the theater when it was released.)

Whiplash and the Black Widow. Don Cheetle is War Machine.
mechkiller_k on December 17, 2009 at 9:48 PM
Nice… They should make a movie out of that trailer.

argos on December 17, 2009 at 9:57 PM
looks good to me. I’ll watch it.
Zorro on December 17, 2009 at 10:05 PM
OH HELL YEAH! If it wasn’t for The Dark Knight this would have easily been the best Superhero flick of 2008 and definitely in the running for the best superhero flick ever (going up against Christopher Reeve’s Superman and Spiderman 2). This looks awesome and I’m there opening week.
Was that Jessica Biel? I’ll just ignore her terrible acting.
Daemonocracy on December 17, 2009 at 10:10 PM
Just hearing AC/DC’s “Shoot to Thrill” in the trailer has me wanting to see this.
CurtZHP on December 17, 2009 at 10:33 PM
Two words: Awe and Some.
Meryl Yourish on December 17, 2009 at 10:38 PM
First was fantastic for 2-3 times watching it. Then it went meh. However, this has both Robert Downey Jr (reformed alcoholic druggie that may in fact be conservative now) and Mickey Rourke (who is Republican) and both are fantastic actors. This will be a definite watch for me and also can’t believe you put this in the same category as that POS movie Avatar.
scrubbiedude on December 17, 2009 at 10:50 PM
Supposedly the first Ironman was something RDJ and Jon Favreau largely threw together. I mean if they weren’t adlibbing you can only imagine how incredible of a film they would have made, it would be mind blowing.
Dave_d on December 17, 2009 at 11:00 PM
Miss Manners most certainly doesn’t, either.
inviolet on December 17, 2009 at 11:44 PM
Loved the first one and am sure the second will be awesome too. Cherry on top is that the trailer praises privatization and property rights in like the first 20 seconds. heh heh.

Maquis on December 18, 2009 at 1:02 AM
WOW!
Iron Man and War Machine together for a huge finale!
I’m all in!
If Marvel does this movie right (and stays away from the PC crap) it could be HUGE!!!
BTW, the only two movies I have actually paid to see since 2008 were The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man. Of course, I read the comics when I was a kid and that really provided motivation. I am sorta interested that they plan to remake Red Dawn, but my hopes are fading the more I read about it.
Let’s have Captain America in his full glory! I mean Red-White-and Blue NO CRAP Mom’s-apple-pie!
I have read that Marvel is afraid to market a blatant-pro-American hero movie. IMHO if they mess with Cap, they will fail in a big way.
shorebird on December 18, 2009 at 1:30 AM
I don’t know if you kept up with Marvel in the past few years, but let’s say I share your worry about how modern Hollywood will portray Captain America.
Sgt Steve on December 18, 2009 at 1:49 AM
I feel compelled to ask: have you kept up with DC Comics as well in the past few years? Because if you know where to look, they’re not far behind in how they’ve been dealing with their superhero output. There was a Superman story a few months ago called “New Krypton” that had anti-war themes brewed up by one Greg Rucka. Of course, that’s not the only problem they have – there’s misogyny, multi-culti pandering and “death/villification worship” running rampant under the editorship of Dan DiDio, yet seems to me that nobody even cares to take notice of that.
Avi Green on December 18, 2009 at 2:21 AM
Ap, dude – as big a humpbot fan as yourself should at least do the Netflix thing and check out Ironman, if for no other reason than to see the Roomba thingee and the fire extinguisher line.
Just sayin.

mechkiller_k on December 18, 2009 at 9:21 AM
By the way, Marvel killed off Capt. America. They discovered the fans did not like it and have been trying to correct it ever since.
As part of the aftermath of Marvel Comics’ company crossover “Civil War”, Steve Rogers was killed in Captain America vol. 5, #25 (March 2007). Series writer Ed Brubaker remarked, “What I found is that all the really hard-core left-wing fans want Cap to be standing out on and giving speeches on the street corner against the George W. Bush administration, and all the really right-wing fans all want him to be over in the streets of Baghdad, punching out Saddam Hussein”.
mechkiller_k on December 18, 2009 at 9:25 AM
As the saying goes, “Money talks, bulls!t walks.”
What’s the necessary process for prying away the vise-like grip the Leftists have on Hollywood? First is to boycott Leftist propaganda films like Avatar. While I really want to see it for the effects and the “wow!” factor, I will not do so as a matter of principle.
The second is to fill the seats for films that at least try to be even-handed. And especially to support the work of people like RDJ and Mickey Rourke. In an echo chamber like Hollywood – where saying the wrong thing can completely destroy one’s ability to engage in the work that you love – it takes real courage to say the types of things I’ve quoted above. To me, giving up $20 of my money to help ensure that they can continue doing so is a small price to pay.
rvastar on December 18, 2009 at 10:29 AM
I’ll go see that. I saw the last one on the day it came out. Iron Man was a favorite comic when I was a kid.
