Quotes of the day
posted at 10:41 pm on December 17, 2009 by Allahpundit
“‘People need to put this in perspective,’ Dan Pfeiffer, Mr. Obama’s communications director, said in an interview on Thursday. ‘Two years ago, the Democratic Party would have done anything for the opportunity to pass a health care reform like this. Let’s realize how far we’ve come, and how close we are to making history.’”
***
“On Wednesday morning, Organizing for America, as Obama’s reconstituted campaign organization is now known, emailed its list of 13 million Obama supporters asking them to ‘call your senators now and help us ‘ring in reform.’
“The campaign yielded 150,000 calls – less than half the number of a similar effort in October – and it prompted a backlash among online and local activists who had logged countless volunteer supporting Obama’s campaign and legislative agenda, but who felt betrayed by recent Democratic concessions in the healthcare reform fight…
“Though he said he’s ‘still a great believer in Obama,’ [Hearn] said he didn’t participate in the OFA phone banking and won’t be volunteering for future healthcare-related efforts. ‘What am I going to say: ‘I hate this bill, but we’re Obama people, so let’s do it?’’ he said…
“‘We heard story after story from current Organizing for America volunteers about how they were getting disillusioned with Obama because he wasn’t fighting for the public option,’ Green said. ‘Obama’s email list may soon become a hallow shell if he does not fight Joe Lieberman and insist that there be a public option.’”
***
“So why the stubborn insistence on passing health reform? Think big. The liberal wing of the party—the Barney Franks, the David Obeys—are focused beyond November 2010, to the long-term political prize. They want a health-care program that inevitably leads to a value-added tax and a permanent welfare state. Big government then becomes fact, and another Ronald Reagan becomes impossible. See Continental Europe.
“The entitlement crazes of the 1930s and 1960s also caused a backlash, but liberal Democrats know the programs of those periods survived. They are more than happy to sacrifice a few Blue Dogs, a Blanche Lincoln, a Michael Bennet, if they can expand government so that in the long run it benefits the party of government.
“What’s extraordinary is that more Democrats have not wised up to the fact that they are being used as pawns in this larger liberal game.”

P.S. Take those greedhead totalitarian goons in congress with you, O Barry Soetoro.

The people of those previous decades didn’t have the communication networks we have today, it was easier to fool them because the legislation was law before most people even knew there was a bill.

All these democrats are used for pawns and they don’t care. Maybe Ben Nelson will be the only one whose screw is not totally loose. Who knows? I really don’t trust anyone with a ‘D’ or an ‘I’ next to their name.
The only guy we remotely trusted, Lieberman, proved himself to be as phony as they come. Just a couple of weeks ago, Lieberman complained about the health of the economy, and he’s voting for a trillion dollar boondoggle.
OT: But Bill O’Reilly really was annoyed at Laura Ingraham calling out his gushiness for Michelle Obama last night. Go Laura!

I totally agree that current technological advances do not favor the centralized state over the long-run.
They also didn’t have nearly 80 years of experience with those entitlement programs and a bunch of math showing that the entire economy is about to run off a cliff because of the long-run costs.
A big problem with the Left’s agenda is that they are not talented enough to execute it in a way that makes people feel like they are getting the full use of their rights of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. Interacting with the agents of Leftism in the government is more likely to induce feelings of “soul-destroying misery, helplessness and murderous rage”.

Laura Ingraham often discusses O’Reilly on her radio show. Often says she’s going “to do an intervention” and I’ve heard her use that phrase to his face as well. Loved when (even after Rather resigned from CBS) that O’Reilly was defending his “good friend Dan” and stating “the Factor was conducting their own investigation.” Laura howled at that on her radio show. Weeks later Laura asked him on-air how that was going. She hasn’t brought it up since which makes me wish I heard the banter during the commercial break.
Marcus on December 17, 2009 at 11:32 PM
I had assumed ‘dating’ overbite was a more or less semi long term thing.
No, not every girl I date is a keeper.
I recall at dinner once she said “Can you believe what they’re doing to President Clinton?”

Don’t get me wrong. I like Laura Ingraham and would sooner listen to her than Sean ‘Greta’ Hannity. I’m just amazed that ANY conservative girl could put up with overbite for more than two seconds.

The left cannot hold there alliance together when they are in power. It is easy to unite against the their opponents when they are in the minority and can find common cause. When they gain power and think they have everything they want in sight they forget about alliances and reach for their pot of gold. what i really haven’t seen commented on is that nationalized healthcare will reduce the need to remain employed.
often, people stay at jobs just for the health insurance. lacking that motivation i think we can see the ranks of the not looking for a job to increase, ie lower workforce participation
overall, i think we can look for a society, just like europe, with chronic high unemployment, large subsidies for being alive, various “unintended” consequences (rationing, food laws, etc.)
Americans have tended to work longer hours that europeans. That’s about to change. i think we’re beyond the tipping point now….its downhill from here.

Excellent point. In fact, this is true of every aspect of socialism, not just the healthcare aspect. What motivation is there to do anything at all, if you can get a paycheck and benefits by just laying around?
I’ve used this point to explain the differences between socialism and capitalism to my young nieces and nephews. Hopefully they won’t grow up to be good little socialists, like they’re probably being indoctrinated to be in the public schools.

`
`
`
`
All political parties are essentially coalitions of disparate interests, who by definition will be competing with each other in some respects. The glue is the commonality of interest.
`
Republican groups share the desire and need to limit government’s corrosive and restrictive influences upon their lives. Democratic groups, conversely, share a need to fund their activities through coercive government actions because they always fail in the marketplace.
`
The difference shows up best when Democrats have full and unbridled power, which they now possess in control of the Executive branch, the House, the Senate with 60 votes, and 4 – 5 votes on the USSC, depending upon the issue and Mr. Justice Kennedy’s mood that week. Their interest groups all then demand immediate payment for their work and sacrifices, and begin internecine warfare.
`
Add to this natural fracturing of the coalition the collective tidal movement of independents away from the Democrats and their agenda, as if they suddenly awoke from a drunken bender and said, “I did WHAT? Elected WHOM?”
`
It’s a shame Obama is so unqualified he cannot even deal with Pelosi and Reid. No wonder Putin, Hu, and Ahmadinejad laugh at him and mock him while doing whatever the heck they please. The poor little wimp can’t even boss around Israel or Honduras.
`
Adjoran on December 18, 2009 at 12:50 AM
He is hoisted on his own petard.
But really, does it matter that he alienates all his supporters? He is about to ensure his legacy: the permanent majority, tethered to the government by his thousand welfare schemes. There isn’t much we can do about it. You think the Reps are going to give away all this power, even if they do win in 2010?

Bill was really nasty to her in the beginning. He was actually what I would call “hateful” toward her. If he dislikes her so much, he shouldn’t ask her to come on or fill in for him. Idiot. Rude idiot.
I wish she, Ann C (whom Bill was really rude to a couple months ago as well), Dick Morris, Karl, and Newt would all boycott BOR’s stupid show. The only reason why Bill is sometimes watchable is when he has these guests on. If they all refused to be on, his ratings would drop. I can’t stand him.
Greta was stupid tonight, too, having a major plug for “Avator”. I was so disgusted that she was reminding people of the date it was in theatres and interveiwing one of the actors, I changed the channel.

Bill did not laugh. He had the ugliest, angriest expression on his face, esp. by the time he said that she had an “iv” of kool-aid on her arm. My mom, after watching this, said that he was “vicious” and “attacked” her. I’ve never seen Bill so angry at a fellow conservative before. This was the face he usually saves for left-wing idiots. Laura should never have been treated like this. I don’t think she could see his face, if she had I wonder if she would’ve been so good-natured about his vile attack on her.

I think you nailed it. The problem is is that after the Leftists ultimately fail, they leave an unmitigated disaster in their wake (foreign policy, economy [see Jimmy Carter]) that it takes years to clean up the mess. Plus whatever bureaucracies they establish grow like a slow incurable cancer, or like a narcotic that addicts millions of citizens who refuse to get clean and sober, which is why people think that they are actually entitled to entitlements as if that’s what the founding fathers had in mind all along.
Whether it’s greed, power or anti-American ideology, what the Leftists wreak on us is the same: our destruction. Voting them out of office will do no good unless we take over the schools, purge the disciples of Ayers and burn the textbooks written by Zinn, Chomsky and Alinsky and their acolytes.
Their goal is destroy the family, destroy our history, heritage and collective memory of it and imprison us as permanent wards of the state. Unless we can somehow take a stand now, this will all not end well.

The difference is this is causing a frontlash, at this point. The backlash comes later. Back in the 30s and 60s those programs were a lot more popular going in and than this thing is right now. And the same is true with cap and trade. Both of these policies are very unpopular with the American people before they are signed into law…and that is different.

She wanted to go on his show, and Bill can be a blowhard at times…none of these people are sensitive or easily offended, they don’t care about this kind of thing.

Greta is always stupid. She’s the female version of Geraldo or perhaps the male version Nancy Grace. She is also wrapped up in Scientology.
I have yet to understand why anybody is interested in her show since it is nothing more than gosssip about whatever famous figure is in the news.
