It’s on: Matthews goes nuclear on the netroots for trashing ObamaCare

posted at 8:36 pm on December 17, 2009 by Allahpundit

A new and unusually entertaining skirmish from the blossoming Democratic civil war. Don’t be shocked by this: Matthews’s history with the online left is as long and bitter as his history with the right, although I am a bit surprised that he’d take it quite this far. Remember, the modern-day Murrow made an uber-nutrootsy empty threat just last night to go to prison rather than buy ObamaCare insurance. Are we to assume from this that Chris sees Olby in the same light as he does grassroots progressives? (Keith is, after all, a contributor to Daily Kos.) If not, why not?

In the great Matthews/Olbermann battle between disgruntled support and enraged obstruction, I’m sorry to report that the unions appear to be siding with Matthews.

“… who like to sit in the back and complain and get their giggles by sitting in the back and bitc%ing.” – Chrissy “I have something on my chin” Matthews

Really…

“He was a rich kid driving his father’s car. He got to be President because of his father, let’s face it, the same way he got into school and everything else, the same way he got his car probably. But the scary thing about Bush is somewhere he came to meet people like Dick Cheney and Scooter Libby and Paul Wolfowitz and Feith and the rest of them…” – Chrissy “Let me clear my throat” Matthews

Seven Percent Solution on December 17, 2009 at 8:58 PM

I really hate to say it but Matthews is probably right…for now.

Netroots is more of a leading indicator. Today, most rank-and-file flesh-and-blood Democrats still really like and trust Zero. Online Dems’ whinging is still limited to just their online cesspools.

Thing is…the netroots are opinion leaders and overtime have the capacity to turn a substantial piece of the Democratic party against Obama.

And don’t be surprised to see some Dems start using an anti-Obama message in order to save themselves in the face of the coming Nov 2010 “correction”.

Robert Paulson see the polling here

Dmes are yes still at 95% approval in the beltway for Teh One

but he has totally lost the Indies, HRC is kickin his Axx on Indies, and GOP approval in and out of the beltway

I dunno I broke with the party in August and now I cannot be objective I guess but It sure as shxt seems to me people are pixxed as hell
at least thats the impression I get when I am surrounded by fellow Americans mad as hell at tea parties and school events and grocery stores, the bank, every frakkin place people are talking about how pixxed they are

that poll that showed the Tea Party at highest approval when comapred with GOP DEMS well that is pretty great stuff considering what they did to minimize us

GuranT an exemption for unions in the dead of night slipped into conference if not the ping pong method, then it will be in the managers amendment

Andy Stern MADE Obama he bused his SEIU into Iowa caucuses and all acorss the nation to scream when O blew his nose, he is the most frequent visitor I IRC in the WH logs

yeah he will get an exemption, rockefeller will put it in betcha for his coal miners

no way it stays, esp after Pelosi announced no house votes on tuff stuff in 10, like card check, immigration

andy has nothing to deliver to his troops for a while, he will have to be happy with this, thus they will HAVE to give Labor an exemption somehow from the excise tax

Oh poor Chris, he’s going to stick with Obama until the bitter end. He’s way past just a sympathetic media star, he’s moved on to worshiper. And by God, he will not let the object of his worship be knocked off that golden pedestal! No matter how many other “non democrat democrats” start to question Obama.

Sad, isn’t it, to watch someone fight so fiercely for a losing side.

If by sad I mean snicker worthy…..

Isn’t that the bulk of the excise tax revenue, though? If you exempt the unions, there really is no excise tax revenue.

I am definitely enjoying the Dem on Dem here. What Chrissy is saying, however, could be word for word put into the mouths of a lot of Blue Blood Republican insiders however. There’s definitely this sense that those of us in both parties out in the real America need to sit down and shut up and do as our masters tell us.

Dark Eden on December 17, 2009 at 9:18 PM

Weren’t the netroots the ones who packed the Iowa caucuses to stop Hillary? The base is not going to be happy standing in the cold holding signs when the fatcat liberals are sitting in studios calling them whiners.

Meanwhile, Jay Leno did a joke off an item in the book: “They said this one blonde was especially suggestive and kept rubbing up against the president. Finally, Michelle said, ‘Look, Chris Matthews, get away from my husband’.”

This tool was the exact same way when it came to Bill Clinton.

A slobbering, stuttering, pathetic sheep boy that will defend his liberal messiah up until the point of jumping right off the cliff for them.

I am just not ready to believe that these die hard liberals like Dean and Olberman are really serious with their dissent of their liberal messiah Obama.

I will not be surprised to hear in the coming months how strong and brave Obama was for going against his base for the good of the country.

They could easily be painting Obama to look like a centrist
to try and stop the bleeding of the Independents leaving him in droves.

When Hillary starts to abandon ship is when I will take it seriously that democrats are really turning on their liberal hero Obama and starting to choose sides.

Olberman and Matthews are just to full of sh!t to take seriously.

Will be real interesting to see where Dean stands come the Christmas Eve Vote.
