Another collapse: Copenhagen in “chaos”; Update: Climate change skeptic hit with object during Cavuto interview

posted at 6:00 pm on December 16, 2009 by Allahpundit

It’s Chicago ’68 redux: While the Enlightened huddle inside the convention center to figure out a way to save the world, the cops go nightstick-crazy on radical lefties outside.

No worries, though. The One’s getting ready to fly in and put all the pieces together. Like he did with health-care reform.

The Copenhagen climate change conference appeared to be imploding from within and exploding from without on Wednesday.

Police fired tear gas, brandished batons and detained more than 200 protesters who tried to push through the security cordon around the Bella Center, as negotiations inside bogged down, for the second time this week, over differences between China and the West over emissions, funding issues and transparency…

On Tuesday, Hedegaard made an emotional appeal for countries to put aside their differences to finalize a deal — after the G-77 bloc of developing nations accused her of trying to ram through an agreement amenable to the U.S. and other big industrialized nations.

But no sooner had Rasmussen assumed the presidency than those tensions burst out in the open again, with China, India, Bolivia, South Africa and Sudan saying they would block attempts by the Danish delegation to produce a draft text favored by most Western countries.

There was movement late today among African countries to relax their payoff demands, so there might conceivably be some sort of breakthrough tomorrow. Or not:

“I still believe it’s possible to reach real success, but I must say that in that context the next 24 hours are absolutely crucial” for coming up with a new agreement on how to limit global warming, [UN climate czar] Yvo de Boer said late on the ninth day of negotiations…

Officials expressed concern that the conference will have little to show when world leaders are supposed to convene to ratify a final outcome on Friday.

“We have no more time to lose,” European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said in a press conference Wednesday, as he joined the talks.

Follow the link and scroll down to the end for the wit and wisdom of Hugo Chavez. This is the transnational version of ObamaCare, isn’t it? A long-sought, fantastically expensive progressive utopian vision runs smack into the logistical nightmare of a legislative body that’s too greedy and ideologically diverse to agree. But since the dream cannot die, they resolve themselves to pass anything they possibly can and thereby force through a piece-of-shinola compromise that no one’s happy with. Voila: Hopenchange in action.

Via Breitbart, here’s a selection of what’s going on outside the building. The second video is especially, shall we say, “Iranian-flavored.” Exit question correction: Remember this post about the massive carbon belch being emitted at Copenhagen by VIPs who insist on traveling in style? I suggested at the time that they’d try to make amends by buying offsets. Wrong, as it turns out: According to the AP, “Sweden was one of the few to announce plans to offset those aviation emissions – something it does routinely. Most are doing nothing to boost their green credentials and some saw no reason to treat their trip to the U.N. climate talks any differently.” Just so you know.

Update: Phelim McAleer, the filmmaker responsible for “Not Evil, Just Wrong,” questions the orthodoxy. And for that he must pay.

But, of course, he’s trapped now, isn’t he? He’s got to go.

This mess at Copenhagen is great news for freedom lovers. These violent leftists are showing the whole world that “global warming” has not one thing — has never had one thing — to do with “saving the planet” and everything to do with leftist ideology. Those people aren’t pro anything; they are anti-democracy, anti-capitalism, anti-growth, anti-individual freedom, and anti-American. It’s good for people to see that in all of its splendor. If they’re going to be on the side of the global warming liars, it’s best they know precisely what it is their team is fighting for.

This comment on YouTube is especially fitting:

Most of us here in Scandinavia are environmentally friendly every day of our lives – using green energy in our homes, recycling every day and using public transport. We don’t believe in going to other countries to cause trouble – how big is your carbon footprint by the way – how much CO2 did you use to get over to Copenhagen? And all the other demonstrators? You’re just full of clichés -remember – charity begins at home. Clean in front of your own front door first – we don’t need you here.

I know someone over there protesting. She’s unemployed- who knows how she got there. She also fell for my dihydrogen monoxide scare bait the other day. So many, many ignorant fools. So sad.

they are the one world crazies who thought that this was the golden ticket to a one world government and redistribution of wealth. As one of them said on the radio today, “Is it fair that someone living in the US has more money and a larger carbon footprint then somebody in Africa”? They were really hoping that this week would see a “worldwide awaking” to the unfairness of the richer countries being richer.

They see their dream slipping away and are striking out.

One long December fortnight
Smug parasites from all continents appear
In the land of the midnight sun

Clouds of verbal flatus arise
When the carbon-spewing jets (their use justified
by having purchased carbon offsets) disgorge Hell’s spawn

Untruths, like a ruptured septic tank, burst forth
To be consumed like manna by sycophants
Long unused to thinking for themselves

Then funding dries up
Wealth transfer schemes collapse
Those who would have been fleeced celebrate

Publicists ready their excuses
Disappointed alms seekers
Pissed off, take their leave

The remaining hordes assembled
Rush to the off ramps
Those clowns ought to have their bells rung

The wailing of the self-annointed grows
As the hour of agreements’ collapse arrives
Serves you right, fools

The part at the beginning where the greenies try to “storm” the center is eerily similar, in both sight and sound, to the scene in Blazing Saddles of the cattle rolling through the Rock Ridge church.

I hope Mr. President was wearing his brown pants today.

I hope Michelle doesn’t forget to pack his diapers.
Pass the corn field~we need more popcorn, King!

I said it before and Ill say it again. The far left are little more than a pack of Howler monkeys who are constantly screeching their heads off and flinging their s#!t at people who disagree with their point of view.

You can imagine I wasn’t well liked by the staff members I spoofed. But they deserved it for their stupidity.

This isn’t like Chicago in 1968, Allah. You’re too young to have seen it live on TV, like I did. Chicago cops back then made these Danish Politi look very, very restrained.

in ’68 you could see blood streaming down people’s heads; the nightsticks were wood, not rubber, and some cops were using rifle butts to Stay Busy.

They chased ‘demonstraters’ through the lobby of the swankiest hotel ( the Chicago Hilton, I think ) and up the stairs to whale on them. In the park, they were stomping on people who incorrectly thought that laying down would work

Now, the ‘demonstraters’ /protesters are running the country……

Shut up and pass the popcorn. I’m all out and listening to Dr. K. rip Barry again.

By the time BO & MO arrive to save the day it seems everyone will have left. Or will they fly in again?

And Copenhagen, Copenhagen…. trying to be the nice guys. Well, this should be a lesson to you. Never, ever hold a conference of Gaia freaks especially prior to Christmas. Is there enough time for the air to clear from the fumes of private jets, and will you be able to clear the pee pee from incontinent AGW protesters? I hope so.

One always thinks of Scandinavia during the holidays. Who could not? Cherry Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales for the kids while the parents are nearly suicidal dealing with the lack of sun, drinking hard liquor and looking for the nearest airport to depart for sunny climes.

I really hope y’all have a speedy recovery.

Wasn’t DHMO used in Veterinary medicine 25-30 years ago? If it’s the stuff I’m thinking of, it was also touted as an “anti-arthritis” treatment for humans.

B+ for event security.
