Another collapse: Copenhagen in “chaos”; Update: Climate change skeptic hit with object during Cavuto interview

posted at 6:00 pm on December 16, 2009 by Allahpundit

It’s Chicago ’68 redux: While the Enlightened huddle inside the convention center to figure out a way to save the world, the cops go nightstick-crazy on radical lefties outside.

No worries, though. The One’s getting ready to fly in and put all the pieces together. Like he did with health-care reform.

The Copenhagen climate change conference appeared to be imploding from within and exploding from without on Wednesday.

Police fired tear gas, brandished batons and detained more than 200 protesters who tried to push through the security cordon around the Bella Center, as negotiations inside bogged down, for the second time this week, over differences between China and the West over emissions, funding issues and transparency…

On Tuesday, Hedegaard made an emotional appeal for countries to put aside their differences to finalize a deal — after the G-77 bloc of developing nations accused her of trying to ram through an agreement amenable to the U.S. and other big industrialized nations.

But no sooner had Rasmussen assumed the presidency than those tensions burst out in the open again, with China, India, Bolivia, South Africa and Sudan saying they would block attempts by the Danish delegation to produce a draft text favored by most Western countries.

There was movement late today among African countries to relax their payoff demands, so there might conceivably be some sort of breakthrough tomorrow. Or not:

“I still believe it’s possible to reach real success, but I must say that in that context the next 24 hours are absolutely crucial” for coming up with a new agreement on how to limit global warming, [UN climate czar] Yvo de Boer said late on the ninth day of negotiations…

Officials expressed concern that the conference will have little to show when world leaders are supposed to convene to ratify a final outcome on Friday.

“We have no more time to lose,” European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said in a press conference Wednesday, as he joined the talks.

Follow the link and scroll down to the end for the wit and wisdom of Hugo Chavez. This is the transnational version of ObamaCare, isn’t it? A long-sought, fantastically expensive progressive utopian vision runs smack into the logistical nightmare of a legislative body that’s too greedy and ideologically diverse to agree. But since the dream cannot die, they resolve themselves to pass anything they possibly can and thereby force through a piece-of-shinola compromise that no one’s happy with. Voila: Hopenchange in action.

Via Breitbart, here’s a selection of what’s going on outside the building. The second video is especially, shall we say, “Iranian-flavored.” Exit question correction: Remember this post about the massive carbon belch being emitted at Copenhagen by VIPs who insist on traveling in style? I suggested at the time that they’d try to make amends by buying offsets. Wrong, as it turns out: According to the AP, “Sweden was one of the few to announce plans to offset those aviation emissions – something it does routinely. Most are doing nothing to boost their green credentials and some saw no reason to treat their trip to the U.N. climate talks any differently.” Just so you know.

Update: Phelim McAleer, the filmmaker responsible for “Not Evil, Just Wrong,” questions the orthodoxy. And for that he must pay.

Maybe someone should explain to these morons out there that based on the junk science they are backing with this global warming BS, all the heat they are exuding by rioting right now woudl actually end up contributing to the problem.

Power. How instantly corruptive it is. I just love the comment from the girl in the background during the interview with polar bear man.

“There are 30,000 of us.”

And just what exactly do you intend to do to Mr. Bear with your 30k-plus strong mob?

We are peaceful. What are you?

I don’t get it, who and what are they protesting against? Isn’t this what the lefties want, to “save” the planet…..through destroying western culture and crippling economies?

Notice how many of the CULTenhagen “environmentalists” are wearing the trademark fugly Arafat keffiyah schmata, which is a way for fellow marxists to say, “Hey, here I am. I have no job, lots of weed, and no responsibilities. Let’s go break some windows and chant hate at Jews.” Good job on those Danish cops. I hope none of them get hurt.

The most remarkable thing about the differences and disagreements among the GW priests in Copenhagen is that underneath the veil of “it’s for the children, it is for the polar bears, it is for the rain forests” lies a steady blatant current of greed.

Not just greed among certain often-demonized international “fat cats.” No, greed pervades nearly all the particpants.

“What’s in it for me?” is the basic starting point for each delegation. Nothing less.

Copenhagen, with the largest carbon footprint of any conference in recorded time, is not about actually “saving the planet” but is all about each nation staking claim to what it can, as best it can, to the proverbial free lunch.

All the high sounding rhetoric in the lead up to Copenhagen is eclipsed by the dog-eat-dog demagoguery of way too many “world leaders” intent on getting something for nothing.

Doesn’t that sum up the totality of the liberal left?

Free lunches for all. [Soak the "rich to pay for them, of course.] But, this one basic fundamental of liberalism has been seen for well over a century. If they don’t have to pay for it themselves, why the hell not try to get as much of it as one can?

Copenhagen is a perfect example of an imperfect idea finding a pulpit among the blatantly imperfect.

All the high sounding rhetoric leading up to Copenhagen does not diminish one iota the greed apparent from each and every delegation and delegate.

There are no free lunches.

First principle of economics.

Me? I am getting well tired of being forced to cater these “free lunches.”

And tired of being forced to pay for others to eat well at the trough the cost of my work, my effort, my earnings, my paltry wealth. If I earned my way, why should the rest of the world be held exempt from the same standards?

Copenhagen is not about Global Warming. Copenhagen is all very much about a huge portion of the world trying to get their free lunch and dessert and then some.

It’s all about wealth transfer to third world countries who somehow claim they have had their climate damaged by the very nations that support them with financial aide right now. They just want more to the point that the economies of the developed nations get crippled. Instead of lifting them up, it’s all about bringing everyone else down.

tballard on December 16, 2009 at 7:49 PM

The world leaders and UN types haven’t made their “New World Order” (their words) goals a secret, which explains their constant carbon usage hypocrisy. So, at least we know they’re just liars, and not stupid.

… But how can there be so many thousands of people at this event (probably millions around the world) who are true believers, and despite evidence completely debunking everything they believe, hold such conviction? These people have to be incredibly stupid, I don’t know how else to wrap my mind around it. As I watched those videos, I couldn’t help but notice that the only difference between watching this and the Special Olympics is athleticism.

RightWinged on December 16, 2009 at 7:54 PM

Insanity. And the whole carbon extortion scheme will just turn into something like the food for oil scandal on a global scale.

Dr. Carlo Lombardi

That is what I said he should call himself a few days ago.

Rightwinged. LOL!

What we are seeing on display from the left other than massive stupidity, is their supreme narcissism and denial of reality.
They have a HUGE amount of self worth invested in AGW. If AGW isn’t happening then they aren’t the intellectual superiors of those that disagree.
If AGW is fraud then they have no excuse for their fascist behavior and are the moral inferiors of those they desperately want to be superior to.

If you REALLY want the good footage, I’ve worked all day channel surfing and recording. I have several very nice long stretches of Copenhagen Cops doing a Gene Krupa. I’m splicing it all together and packaging it with some “Looney Tunes” music. Then, when the grandkids are over on Christmas, I’ll show them some worthwhile footage of people starving and dying in third world countries. When they are really sad and upset and ask why, I’ll tell them the story of the “Green Monster”, make some popcorn and break out my video to show them the happy ending of what happens to those green (red) monsters.

Ahhhhh, watching the protesters brings back fond, fond memories of the rampant violence of the 9/12 rally in our nation’s capital. My teenager was totally outta control too. As she sang the National Anthem at the reflecting pool–along with thousands of our like-minded friends. I saw their arms flail also—as they lifted their hands, and their caps from their heads, to place them over their hearts. It was VIOLENT, I tell ya. You had to have been there to get the scope of it.

Alden Pyle on December 16, 2009 at 10:30 PM

I am assuming here that there are many people from different parts of the planet in Copenhagen right now that speak a myriad of languages, right? That would be a safe assumption, no?

SO…..following that premise….why are the protesters calling out, chanting loudly, in a language other than their own?? They are chanting in ENGLISH!!! Exit question: WHY? Is it to sway the American people who no longer support prohibitively expensive climate change legislation and do not believe in climate change as strongly as they used to?

Hmmmm

siwrcw03 on December 16, 2009 at 6:38 PM

That’s exactly what struck me. Why are these hive-minded socialists all chanting their inanities in English? Who is behind this anarchy? Why or what are they protesting if most of the oligarchs at the conference are buying into this sham-wow “science”?

Could you be anymore of a dumba$$.

The protesters are destroying property and assaulting cops and you believe that this is “peaceful” and they should be left alone.
The guy who is exercising his rights to free speech giving an interview is “fair game” so he deserves to be assaulted.

I don’t even think the average 7 year old kid would be so stupid as to have such a moronic position as this.

Why can’t you just admit that you are a proud liberal and don’t think that anybody who does not share your opinions and ideologies have no civil rights and should be beaten down.
You would be in the same company as the Stalins,Castro’s and Pol Pots but at least you would be true to your real beliefs.

I bet you got a great big tingle up your leg when your hero Hugo was up there bashing America and Capitalism.

At least it is all recycled protest, since the only word that’s different in this entire undertaking is CLIMATE.

It used to be SOCIAL JUSTICE.

And before that it was some other useful empty slogan to allow these anarchistic boobs to piously smash things, scream obscenities, march in shifty herds of self-righteousness, and grub for cash from whomever they can sucker into GLOBAL GUILT with this tedious re-tread-ed crypto-marxist b.s.

Otherwise, the entire schtick is a laughably lame re-run.

Blithely ignoring the Climategate disaster soundly undermining their entire infantile rant-fest.

profitsbeard on December 17, 2009 at 12:30 AM

As someone who lived in Europe for many years, it is not unusual to see police act that way. The typical Polzei response to an angry drunk looks like the Rodney King beating, German citizen or American Soldier, they don’t mess around. The people are subjects of the State, not the State being subject to the people. I would prefer to stay the latter it its all the same to everybody else.

Fitzoid on December 17, 2009 at 12:54 AM

I am shocked, shocked mind you!

Europeans are peaceful, enlightened Socialists and would never allow their police to beat unarmed people, nor would peaceful Socialists attack anyone. Must’ve been shot in a studio lot somewhere and financed by reactionary “fat cats”…propaganda in other words.

That stuff only happens in America where white policemen beat up black folk trying to vote or college students marching in nonviolent (of course) protests.

Like to hear some Creationists tell us that we’re not in anyway related to the apes again?

“Climate Fascist” Protester’s agitator insights a riot by turning the “Climate Fascist” Protesters into the Police using a bull-horn and giving a ten count countdown, as if it was planned, and on que, here we have our video.

urbancenturion on December 17, 2009 at 2:22 AM

First of all do not see them as peaceful protesters, did you note that they were told that they were not allowed to march to the conference centre but they charged the police lines egged on by people using loud speakers. How do you expect the police to act. They are well versed in using propoganda to make it look as if they were aggressed.

There is across Europe a very well organised and violent groups of extreme left anarchists and there are quite a few of them in Denmark too and they travel across Europe to agitate, they will attack G7 conferences, world bank conferences and also demonstrations by people against Islam like the one in Cologne, that time they were invited in by the elite Fascists. In terms of this event, the previous day they decided to go on the rampage but the police boxed them in, cuffed them and made them sit in the cold for 4 hours and then took them to spend the night in cells.

The amusing thing is that we have the police directed by the elite Fascists dealing strongly with the street and environmentalist Fascists, I call it a win win situation.

While us normal law abiding sensible people look on with total contempt at these two sets of Fascists.
