Quotes of the day

“The federal government quietly agreed to forgo billions of dollars in potential tax payments from Citigroup as part of the deal announced this week to wean the company from the massive taxpayer bailout that helped it survive the financial crisis…
“While the Obama administration has said taxpayers likely will profit from the sale of the Citigroup shares, accounting experts said the lost tax revenue could easily outstrip those profits…
“‘The government is consciously forfeiting future tax revenues. It’s another form of assistance, maybe not as obvious as direct assistance but certainly another form,’ said Robert Willens, an expert on tax accounting who runs a firm of the same name. ‘I’ve been doing taxes for almost 40 years and I’ve never seen anything like this where the IRS and Treasury acted unilaterally on so many fronts.’”

“Over the weekend, Obama attacked fat-cat investment bankers, telling ’60 Minutes’ he didn’t become president to aid and abet Wall Street — which, only a year after the financial meltdown and taxpayer bailout, is now scheduled to hand out tens of billions of dollars in bonuses to its bankers and traders.
“But the president’s meeting yesterday with the CEOs of the largest banks was nearly a lovefest, I’m told by attendees…
“Said one CEO who attended: ‘I expected to be taken to the woodshed, but the tone was quite the opposite.’
“Said another senior exec with knowledge of the meeting: ‘The whole thing was so telegraphed that not much was accomplished, other than giving Obama a PR stunt… He might have sounded mean on ’60 Minutes,’ but during the meeting he was a hell of a lot nicer.’”

He’s a desperate freshman wanting for everybody in HS to like him and willing to do whatever it takes. What he doesn’t realize is that he is the class joke.

Off Topic:
Just read that the UK reports they can’t account for the whereabouts of their released Lockerbie bomber in Lebanon. Oh, gee, he must be dead like he was supposed to be a long while back.

I’d say B+
Think about what his real agenda is. From his perspective, the only reason he doesn’t give himself a solid A is that he didn’t get a full-on public healthcare option passed.
However, the business of turning our country into a welfare state, collapsed dollar, redistribution schemes, empowering unions, trillion dollar slush funds to buy votes, WHILE maintaining around 50% approval. He/media have done pretty damn well.

After this show airs, I hope a body language specialist reports on both Michelle and Oprah’s behavior, expressions, etc.
I also thought that both women looked uncomfortable, Michelle, especially, and Oprah with a “what a fool I’ve been” look on her face.

So let’s keep fiddling with the language of a health care bill over issues such as federal payment for abortion and making sure illegals are covered while saying otherwise as the country sinks further into debt and jobs become more scarce.
Oh, and man-made global warming, be sure to include that in the matrix of important issues that take precedence over everything else.
Hey Barry, you didn’t inherit the things that are tanking your popularity. You brought them with you.
DanMan on December 16, 2009 at 11:02 AM
Has there EVER been an interview where Obama has not said he inherited all his problems – in one form or another. – But you (also) may recall – he wanted to be President anyway – and he had the answers!
Anyone hear of Reagan complaining about the horrendous situation (worse and much more complicated)he inherited from Carter? How about FDR complaining about what he inherited from Hoover? Lincoln from Buchanan?
I bet Michelle has to shove a binky in his mouth every night. What a whiner.
