Rasmussen: Obama “passion index” hits new low

posted at 12:00 pm on December 13, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

Barack Obama may have hoped that a resolution to the question on Afghanistan would improve his political standing.  Instead, on Rasmussen’s daily tracking poll “passion index,” he has plunged to new lows on two successive days.  Those who strongly disapprove of Obama’s performance now have 19 points over those who strongly approve, and his overall approval rating has dropped to 46%:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 23% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19.

Today is the second straight day that Obama’s Approval Index rating has fallen to a new low. Prior to the past two days, the Approval Index had never fallen below -15 during Obama’s time in office …

The 23% who Strongly Approve matches the lowest level of enthusiasm yet recorded. Just 41% of Democrats Strongly Approve while 69% of Republicans Strongly Disapprove. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 21% Strongly Approve and 49% Strongly Disapprove.

The flight of independents continues, in other words.  They’re more disillusioned than the electorate as a whole, with a -28 on the index and more than a 2-1 showing for strongly disapproving to strongly approving.  Among seniors, it’s -29, and even the under-30 crowd has him at a -2.  According to Rasmussen, Obama has also lost the middle class, noting that his weakest income demographics come from earners between $40K – $100K per year.

This sample includes one polling day on a weekend (yesterday), which normally would have given Obama a boost.  It will be interesting to see what happens by Thursday of next week, when they poll likely voters on three weekdays instead.

In the spirit of Advent and Christian charity, I think we should establish a foundation dedicated to raising funds for President Obama’s 2012 Presidential Library.

What do you say? Let’s do it. Let’s put on a show, sell drinks, have a silent auction. You know the drill. I’ll donate some old books that’ll bring in a ton of cash.

The incredible and undeniable thing is Obama has NO IDEA how to get his mojo back. All of his old tricks … the ones that worked in Chicago … the ones that work in campaigns … haven’t worked and won’t work on a national level. He has no idea how to create jobs because he’s never run a business, made a payroll, etc. His best idea after a YEAR of horrific unemployment numbers? Incentives to weatherize your home. Yeah. That’ll put millions permanently back to work. Other than that, he just panders to unions and grows the government at an unprecedented rate. Of course, this could be his master plan. Make people completely dependent on the government, either for employment or for handouts. Collapse the system. Start over in Year One of our Lord and Savior BHO.

The American people have caught on to the fact that this guy is NOTHING. No ideas. No ability to build coalitions and solve problems. He is now officially a lame duck president whose only legacy will be how much he wrecks this country. We will stop the damage in November 2010. The trillion dollar question – will it be too late?

BTW be sure to read the new interview with former Village Voice writer Nat Hentoff. Nat’s certainly no fan of Chimpy Bush, but has this to say after just 1 year of O’bama:

I try to avoid hyperbole, but I think Obama is possibly the most dangerous and destructive president we have ever had… I am beginning to think that this guy is a phony. Obama seems to have no firm principles that I can discern that he will adhere to. His only principle is his own aggrandizement. This is a very dangerous mindset for a president to have.

And check this out:

JW: Do you consider Obama to be worse than George W. Bush?

NH: Oh, much worse. Bush essentially came in with very little qualifications for presidency, not only in terms of his background but he lacked a certain amount of curiosity, and he depended entirely too much on people like Rumsfeld, Cheney and others. Bush was led astray and we were led astray. However, I never thought that Bush himself was, in any sense, “evil.” I am hesitant to say this about Obama. Obama is a bad man in terms of the Constitution. The irony is that Obama was a law professor at the University of Chicago. He would, most of all, know that what he is doing weakens the Constitution.

In fact, we have never had more invasions of privacy than we have now. The Fourth Amendment is on life support and the chief agent of that is the National Security Agency. The NSA has the capacity to keep track of everything we do on the phone and on the internet. Obama has done nothing about that. In fact, he has perpetuated it. He has absolutely no judicial supervision of all of this. So all in all, Obama is a disaster.
