Video: Palin gets revenge on master thespian William Shatner

posted at 9:33 pm on December 11, 2009 by Allahpundit

Yeah, he’s pals with Rush. But even so — he had it coming.

Somewhere Chris Matthews is watching this and thinking, in all seriousness, “She can read.”

A lot of folks should read your last post on Palin bashing

Palin is great.

carbon_footprint on December 11, 2009 at 9:35 PM

Now I don’t have to watch Conan. There are better things to do at 11:30 on a Friday night.

Well done Gov. Palin Bravo Thats got to be worth a half million votes right there

Okay…that was good.

Blarg the Destroyer on December 11, 2009 at 9:41 PM

She really got a warm reception there as well.

carbon_footprint on December 11, 2009 at 9:41 PM

LOL. This was good! Bravo to Palin and Shatner!

“But she’s irrelevant, and we want her to shut up.” – Political Insiders.

Tell me, what other conservative is currently able to pull this much attention and express great conservative principles.

Name one, and I’ll join the “Palin needs to shut up” posse.

Enoxo on December 11, 2009 at 9:43 PM

Wow, that was some serious applause when she entered the stage.

FloatingRock on December 11, 2009 at 9:43 PM

Still waiting for the Holy Grail of Palin/Celebrity meetings….Angelina Jolie.

The Ugly American on December 11, 2009 at 9:45 PM

that was funny. It really was.

Terrye on December 11, 2009 at 9:45 PM

Wonderful. Clever. And Shatner was a good sport, too.

If she was reading her lines off a teleprompter, you sure couldn’t tell. Unlike….

Wethal on December 11, 2009 at 9:48 PM

If I may and this is obvious after watching that……she’s a pro. Keith Olbermann can portray her as a rube to the sun sets but she knows how to work a crowd.

AYNBLAND on December 11, 2009 at 9:48 PM

Wow, that was some serious applause when she entered the stage.

FloatingRock on December 11, 2009 at 9:43 PM

Yeah. Conan has been doing some serious Republican bashing lately and his crowd usually clap like maniacs. I’m surprised his audience gave her such a warm, enthusiastic reception. Wow.

terryannonline on December 11, 2009 at 9:48 PM

Will look forward to seeing what Letterman’s ratings are tonight.

Wethal on December 11, 2009 at 9:49 PM

She’s a natural. No way I could see Obama doing that: the guy’s self-image is too brittle.

irishspy on December 11, 2009 at 9:49 PM

Quite enjoyable.

GnuBreed on December 11, 2009 at 9:49 PM

Epic. That was great. And good on Conan. He knows a good opportunity when he sees it. Plus Shatner is such an easy target. His ego is almost as big as his waistline!

darii on December 11, 2009 at 9:50 PM

Still wondering how she’s going to “get these lines to flip” AP?

Typhoon on December 11, 2009 at 9:50 PM

Well done… I think poking fun of herself (which she sort of did by showing up for gig dedicated to poking fun at her) will help soften the feelings towards her amongst moderate non-partisan types who only have the image of her portrayed during the 2008 election.

BPD on December 11, 2009 at 9:50 PM

I knew I’d seen the expression Obambi wears when his teleprompter breaks before…..”The look on Spock’s face when he had no brain!”

priceless!

Fighton03 on December 11, 2009 at 9:50 PM

Sounded like a whole lot more than 44% of the audience was cheering for her. I just don’t buy the argument that she can’t win enough mass appeal to beat Obama. Or that Huck would do any better.

connertown on December 11, 2009 at 9:51 PM

She really needs to do more of these kind of appearances. She comes off great.

darii on December 11, 2009 at 9:51 PM

She’s great. Never been a public figure like her. Looking forward to next 4 years. They will be very interesting. Star power and this woman should not ever be denied. Underestimate her at your peril, Dems!

I think I’m attracted to her a little more now.

therightscoop on December 11, 2009 at 9:53 PM

Loved Andy Richter’s line.

Chubbs65 on December 11, 2009 at 9:54 PM

I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe Rush Limbaugh’s interview with Shatner a few days ago had a part to play in this appearance on the Tonight show.

This was a stroke of genius to be on the same stage as the feature of actor of Star Trek. Huge cultural move by Palin.

technopeasant on December 11, 2009 at 9:54 PM

That was great. The crowds response was unbelievable, they loved her. Even in L.A.! She’s a force and we are now seeing the reason liberals have been attacking her nonstop since the convention speech. They’re afraid, very afraid.

What’s even funnier is that the lefty blogs will explode trashing Mrs. Palin for doing this….while nary a peep was heard about Al Gore doing a pretty humiliating sketch on SNL three weeks ago.

Palin has already endured the sticks, stones, and arrows with which the media continue to barrage her – she’s already more battle tested than the manchild who was never told ‘no’ in his life.

Mark Boabaca on December 11, 2009 at 10:01 PM

Handled professionally, with grace and humor…. just EXACTLY like the typical Democrat would have handled it…

OMG. Off the charts hilarious; broke my Richter scale.

Should be a ratings bonanza.

The crowd went crazy, like some of them there Palinista’s we all hear about.

Geochelone on December 11, 2009 at 10:04 PM

Shrewd of her, too. SNL made fun of her, but she went on and made a joke of it. Conan has Shatner read her twitters, and she’s willing to come on and be a good sport. And gently poke back. Goes to the Gridiron dinner and has a group of DC journalists laughing.

It’s a start at undoing the caricature of her they were presenting. Once they’ve met the real thing, their old snarks aren’t quite as funny.

Wethal on December 11, 2009 at 10:04 PM

She is smart and she is it….. People love her.

suzyk on December 11, 2009 at 10:04 PM

OMFG. That was just so kewl….. But seriously, that was wicked cool! She not only is a relaxed and calm voice, but seemed so natural in front of the cameras. Kudos to her.

That one, simple, short, bit put the shame to Obama’s camera/stage presence. He’s a rube, and she’s a pro and there’s no denying that now!

I’ve seen a few politicians try to show they are fun, with a sense of humour, etc, but I haven’t seen one do it so well or convincingly as Palin did here. Better then SNL skit previously.

csThor on December 11, 2009 at 10:08 PM

Her confidence level was astounding- what an amazing performance she gave considering the beating the “elites” (RINO’s included) have tried to lay on her. I am more impressed with her than ever, and am ready to admit I have a full blown girl crush on her.

After I turned 35 I wished the clock would stand still, now I cannot wait for it to speed up to 2012!

That was awesome!

SarahCuda exudes confidence.

darwin on December 11, 2009 at 10:10 PM

FABULOUS.

Hint to Hot Air: it’d be even more impressive if you provided both videos in this one post (Shatner’s earlier ‘performance’ ‘reading’ of Palin’s tweets to preceed this latest one by Palin).

BOTH OF THEM, FABULOUS.

Lourdes on December 11, 2009 at 10:10 PM

That little sketch sold more Going Rogue books and upped the national appeal of Sarah Palin, America’s energy source.

The audience was wildly in Gov. Palin’s favor from the raucous reception at the beginning to the disapproval of Conan’s buddy’s not-so-sly dig at the end.

Win – Republicans
Lose – Mathews, Letterman, Democrats

Regarding the audience reaction, it should be pointed out that this was at least a partly friendly audience. She tweeted this earlier today:

In Calif, had blast w/William Shatner, gig w/him airs tonite on Conan.Honored 2 have Wounded Warriors in studio audience=TRUE American heroes-

Nonetheless, it was a great performance and reception.

irishspy on December 11, 2009 at 10:14 PM

Awesome.

Is it just me or is Bill Shatner starting to look like Orson Welles?

Captain Kirock on December 11, 2009 at 10:14 PM

Now, if it won’t spoil your good mood, consider the lame jokes that Letterman and McCain try to toss each other.

Thanks for posting this Allah. That was a great walk on. She really shined through it. She should do this kind of thing more often. Everytime she does it, her earthy personality comes through and she connects. She shows her human side and the left looks silly trying to criticize her intelligence and demonize her motivations.
