Will Smith: Obama represents a “flash point” in human evolution
posted at 7:59 pm on December 10, 2009 by Allahpundit
Not Barack Obama the man, mind you. Barack Obama the idea. Which, in fairness, is true. The evolutionary “flash point” in question is called religious worship and it happened a long time ago; the cult of The One, of which Smith is evidently a proud member, is just the political example du jour. But whatever: After watching Demi Moore pledge to “serve our president” and Tony Bennett encourage people to support him in whatever he does, no amount of celebrity bootlicking should surprise anyone.
Instead, and since it’s semi-related, let me use this post to open discussion on something that’s been bugging me all day. How to explain this trend from Pew’s new survey on Americans and faith?

Supernatural experiences are also up over time, although not quite this sharply: 17 percent reported having them in 1990 but 29 percent claim to have them now. I’m at a total loss to explain it. Any theories? Click the image to watch.

I am really disappointed in Will Smith. I thought he was too smart to buy into the Obama mystique.

I can’t watch. I think Will Smith is an excellent actor. Too bad he’s into the cult of the 0ne. I believe there will be less Will in my future movie choices.

The uptick in “religious experiences” corresponds with a downturn in real, biblical faith.

Whatever he does? ANYTHING he does, Mr. Bennett? Even if he were to ”air raid villages and kill civilians” as John Kerry said so eloquently??

He just wants to play Obama in the upcoming feature film (you know they will be one).

Shameful. One hesitates to believe this can be real. Shows how easily the glitterati can be fooled.
I’d mention another trickster whose tale comes from an old book many have read, but I wouldn’t want to make the atheists feel all jumpy or anything.
Poor Will Smith, how can this person even have a chance?

Are all AAs ready to go the distance with Maobama, even if he proves to be a one-termer and a total loser?

So, just what calamity will Obama unleash a month after losing his reelection bid, and a month before he’s evicted from his current living space?

Well, I liked Will Smith, and enjoyed his movies….but if he, like so many other hollyweirdos want to pander, and use their voice as a vise, in order to sway others to dive into this hope n change cesspool, then he’s on the boycott list I have.
I’ve just had enough of this crap to last me a life time.

I think that our country needs to see a good President right now. I think that the fantasy dwellers of the left see a halo because they seem to need Him to have one.
For the sake of these poor wretches, and the rest of us, I hope that the Savior starts showing some skills and character attributes that are mostly invisible right now. Today’s speech was a good start.

Not surprising, but I really wish these actors would stop this crap. It’s tough to watch their movies knowing what douchebags they are. For example, The Departed is awesome… but I can’t pretend I’m not aware of the idiotic things Damon and Dicaprio have said over the years.
In fairness, even if he hated Obama he’d have to pretend to like him because we’re only a few years off from him being cast in “the role of his lifetime”. Come on, look at the ears!

Morgan Freeman is such a better President then Obama. In several movies, I seem to recall.

I’m thinking Jada/Will Smith aren’t aware that people of Iran (who protested the crooked election) were slaughtered in the streets and Obama said nothing – not one word for 11 days. Also, M/M Smith must have missed that Obama stood by Zelaya against the wishes (courts & constitution) of Honduras! You would think, however, Jada & Will would know that Obama snubbed the Dali Lama…
Maybe the Smiths watch network news??

I hope not.

I stopped paying any attention to Will Smith a few years ago-after he whined about how racist the country that made him a millionaire was.
annoyinglittletwerp on December 10, 2009 at 8:39 PM
Looks like Smith is looking to bring The One into the safe folds of the Scientology group. This could be the new selling point for Dianetics. Voiceover: “Is Obama The One? Read the book. Has Obama been blessed by Tom Cruise? Read the book. Can Thetans be eliminated from your body? Read the book.”

People are becoming more spiritual, but less dogmatic in their religion, that is the answer. By the way a spiritual moment in in the eye of the beholder, one mans walk in the woods is another Walden. My 22-month-old daughter suffered massive skull fractures in a terrible accident. She was in a coma. Her doctors did not believe she would live.
She lived.
Her doctors told us she would never walk. Never talk. Never feed herself.
Three weeks to the day after that accident she walked. Out the front door of the hospital.
A month later, she said, “God a nice man.”
My wife asked, “Have you ever seen God?”
“Oh, yes. He there when it was dark. He tell Allie ‘Go back. Not time yet.’”
So the answer is “yes.” I have had that experience. God exists. He is there. He is most definitely there.
Thanks for letting me share.

RachDubya on December 10, 2009 at 8:56 PM
There was an article in USA Today (someone leaves them in the lunchroom, and I’m a compulsive reader) — I think it was today’s edition — about how Americans are becoming more multi-religious. Attending services of several faiths, instead of just their own.
That could be part of it. “Mystical experiences” seem to be more easily accessible in religions other than Christianity.
Tanya on December 10, 2009 at 8:59 PM
The interest and normalization of the supernatural in our culture has risen–look at the number of shows/movies that feature this element. Those who have traveled or interacted with people in cultures who practice animism, for example, can attest that episodes with the supernatural are quite common.
I think in our culture, the paranormal has lost some mystique and people are more comfortable exploring and experimenting. There is a danger, however, as I know from personal experience with both holy and unholy supernatural entities, that exploring the other-world and is not always a positive experience.
conservative pilgrim on December 10, 2009 at 8:59 PM
What Will Smith refers to as a “flash point”, I prefer to think more of in terms of a momentary wet fart.
pilamaye on December 10, 2009 at 9:02 PM
I could care less what Will Smith has to say. But I am a bit rattled by the people who, like that woman who was attending one of his speeches gushed, ‘He gonna pay my mortgage! I won’t have to worry ’bout puttin’ gas in my car no mo’!’ Morons with a religious zeal like that (because of the size of the bloc they represent) can do far more damage.
sawbuck on December 10, 2009 at 9:06 PM
What is their definition of a spiritual or mystical experience? Feeling inspired listening to some religious music? Accepting Jesus as your savior? Talking to dead people? Seeing God? Doing peyote? Reading a book written by a ghost writer for Al Gore or Obama? This survey isn’t worth much unless the question is better defined. It only shows that Americans are more touchy-feely and mystical-minded than in past decades, which is scary.
mydh12 on December 10, 2009 at 9:09 PM
Will Smith and his wife are Scientologists.
They’ve even opened up their own private school for preK-6th grade children that features a Scientology teaching curriculum developed by L. Ron Hubbard, and they have donated quite a bit of money to Scientology organizations.
When Will Smith talks about himself, he starts to sound like Tom Cruise. In fact, he’s almsot as far off the deep end as Tom Cruise when he gets going… except he doesn’t jump up and down on the furniture while physically assaulting the host.
Frankly, Will Smith seems like a decent family man but he is an elitist Scientologist with no grounding in reality at all anymore. He has been assimilated by the Scientologist Borg hive-mind and is basically just a tool parroting what he is programmed to do and say.

We started boycotting this guys’ movies and products when we found out he was getting chummy with Cruise and being recruited to help fund Scientology.

Exactly. ****I don\’t much listen to what actors and musicians have to say about politics, but I\’m always amazed at the Stalinist bent of so many of y\’all. \”I\’ll never watch Will Smith again.\” Yeah, like when Stalin decided he didn\’t care for the politics of artists, writers and musicians and had them exiled or suppressed. God forbid that Will Smith should have an opinion that differs from yours. I wonder how I can find it in myself to watch Clint Eastwood knowing that he\’s a –gasp — conservative, or ever see a movie again with anyone who\’s ever contributed to Big Hollywood? Maybe it\’s because artists should be judged on their art, not their politics. I even find myself amused by The Nudge (sp?). Heck, he\’s a psychotic right wing freak, but it\’s free country. And, he\’s confident enough in his ideas to take as well as he gives out. Unlike so many here….

God what an idiot! I hate it when actors open their mouths and minds and shatter my opinion of them. The entire notion of a single person being an evolutionary milestone is ridiculous. They don’t even understand their own ideology, surprise.
The worst part is that it isn’t even arguable that zero has done ANYTHING. How about a little peace in our time or maybe just a balanced budget or SOMETHING besides winning a rigged election and running a once run great country into the ground.
